Having Trouble With My Sentinel

I recently started playing my sentinel again, he's around level 40. It's a really fun class and I like the story but I'm not really good in the PvP setting with him. I need some advice on where to start with a nice build and how to use it.

Anyone?

I haven't played this advanced class in over a year.

For PvP I would go either focus (for AoE burst and best survivability) or combat (for single target burst and mobility/control of target). I personally prefer combat, but focus is easier to play. I'll put up a couple of sample level 55 builds for each.

First, I'd suggest heading over to the PvP forum. You'll find way more information over there (yes, for Sentinel, too).

Second, I'd read these three threads:

Updated: How to Become a Contender

How to Become a Contender: Supplemental(Bolster, PvP Gear, and You)

KBN's Guide to Combat Spec (or: how to sentinel tank)

Third, make sure you're playing the right spec. Watchman used to be the uber spec back at launch (and it's what I played, although I was nowhere close to uber with it), but I gather it's mostly worthless in PvP now, as healers supposedly can cleanse the DoTs off very easily. From what I've read, Focus is the faceroll spec (often referred to as "smash monkey"), but I don't know much about that. Combat is the one I play, and is very "burst-y," which makes it easier to kill people in PvP.

That Combat spec for PVP is horrible. At least 1 point in Jedi Crusader is a must. Speccing into insight is a waste, and not having a lower cooldown on Zealous Strike is going to be a huge problem for focus generation.

Something like this is much more efficient for combat.

Ditch that point from Steadfast, you don't need 96%, Ataru's 3% and 2% from steadfast is perfect, put that point in Jedi Crusader, it fixes a lot of Focus generation problems. With that you get the best Combat PvP build pretty much. :D
