What's a good skill tree for a pure DPS Vanguard?

if you just started i would advise you to roll something else.. dps vanguards are in a bad spot and they're not getting any better anytime soon as it looks now.

They are - in 2.4.

2800 lazymode/undergeared parses as full Tactics, and the firm position of dongcleave in Arenas don't exactly scream "bad spot".

OP, roll with what you're most comfortable with. Class balance always shfits and changes, and, unless you're into hardcore PvP/PvE, you'd be able to do just fine with any spec. I know I'm having tons of fun as a recently-specced Madness Sin (aka the supposed worst pvp spec in the entire game ever).

tactics may be somewhat good for pve but i dont care how much ppl run around yelling dongcleave it's still garbage for pvp.. besides how long do you think it'll take before they nerf that to the ground?

anyway just because you're having fun with a class does'nt mean it's good

The fact that a class isn't FOTM doesn't mean it's unplayable either.

VG\PT doesn't have it as bad as some other classes. Among other things, Pull is sith-tons of fun, and annoying as hell on the receiving end. AP even now is a good "all'round" experience (run tank and AP-heavy hybrid on my PT), which will become even smoother in 2.4. I love Van/PT for tactical flexibility. Excellent long-range harrassment tools, and the damage isn't too shabby, ether. No big numbers, but pretty consistent damage, and you have decent control over the encounter. Don't even get me started on baseline hydraulic overrides. It's a great quality of life thing.

nver said it was unplayable but it is behind most classes when it comes to dps.. tactics with all it's movement abilities still seems like it's built to stand still.. and assault same as other dot specs suffer from survivability and a crapload of useless skills needed to get to the lackluster top tier skill.. leaving only hybrids wich are about to get nerfed aswell.

I really understand the feeling when your preferred class isn't working quite as well as you expect it to. But I kind of drifted away from the mentality of being attached to a certain class myself. I play all of them, and this knowledge really allows me to have a broader perspective on overall balance. And from this perspective I can safely state that a lot of balance issues are grossly overstated (aside the healing, to a point - multitarget needs to be toned down. Especially on Ops - if I keep HoTs on all 4 players, I get a steady supply of TAs to spam Energy-free probes - Sorcs at least have to work to preserve their resources).

Bioware weren't entirely wrong when they spoke about perception. If the community tells you that your class is weak and useless and you believe them, you *will* be weak and useless. Otherwise, anyone can contribute. Competitive play, naturally, is another matter, but WoW had worse balance than ToR has now, and my Arena team which had a pretty awful composition, was in top 10 of the Battlegroup (which housed 10 severs, as I recall).

yeah i play pretty much all of the classes available.. but the vg/pt's are the only ones i truly enjoy.. they have so much potential.. so yeah it makes me pretty grumpy when i see what the devs do to them

Ok, not really sure what level you are, but from what I was told by guildies is this:

(in PVE cause I don't PVP)

Focus on surviving until you're about lvl 35ish then go to fleet and respec as the build until EG. So far, I'm enjoying my DPS Assault Specialist Spec; just because the Plastique that is available at the top tier.

That being said, lvl 55 with 1218 - 1435 Damage with a mortar volley of 6796 - 7252 damage and the plastique does 2434 - 2548 damage with 1999 Environmental damage over 12 seconds. So basically 13,234 damage over 12 seconds (if you include the environmental) but most things don't last that long.

Normal rotation: Mortar Volley, Explosive round, Grenade, Plastique...if they survive that long.

Dongcleave is great against the Arena Smash and heavy melee comps, but is a coin-flip against other comps with Snipers and Sorcs, especially Sorcs that H2F.

Assault is a very good leveling spec. Get trooper base aoe (pulse cannon, grenade, MV) and then hib reset at like level 25.

High impact bolt current numbers will go away in 2.4, although you will still hit hard as a mother it's not as hard as the current hybrid spec.

He is right on this one, a bunch of Sorcs lightning and constantly bubbling along with Sniper's burst makes you wish you had a emote where you could grab your legs, pull your head between them and kiss your own *** good bye.

I saw lowering of damage on gut, IR, PC, and change of cell proc, all of which will suck for hybrid spec. Didn't see any changes to HiB, and assault will still be an amazing leveling spec.
