5 Changes that should be made to SWTOR (Constructive Thread)

I'm happy with most of the game, I just think they need to patch all the freaking bugs.

heres a few I have come across:

1. Sometimes when I full-auto on my trooper, the cast bar comes up and nothing happens. Like it runs the duration but no bullets or anything come out. I just stand there with the animation and nothing happens (not a los issue or anything)

2. Falling through floors/stuck in trees/ stuck in small gaps etc. Nearly every game has these issues somewhere, but I've been trapped more times than I can count and I have only been playing for just under a week. Fix this crap

3. No companion customisation kits of trooper when you first get companion. Huge issue.

4. Show sith corruption cant be turned off permanatly. Works only untill you load again. I dont wana walk round like I got the plague.

5. prologue keeps refering to my charactor as a he, when it is a she.

6. Reverse engineering thing in my inventory keeps disappearing on login. Have to talk to a vendor to get it again.

+ more I cant think of.

If I wanted to be really picky, I could think of a few things I'd like to see:

1. Option to pick what Battleground you want.

2. Haircut guy

3. Dungoen finder (I played WoW, im spoilt)

4. My companion to not lose a billion affection everytime I pick darkside. Only one companion of mine doesnt lose affection when I pick darkside.. and hes a tank... I'm also a tank, so hes useless to me. It says in the tutorials that companions dont go by dark/light side choices. WELL MINE DO.

5. Few lines my charactor says are reused alot. "AND now you will see how havoc squad gets things done!" "Identify yourself!" "I'll head out immediatly" etc. Its not such a bad thing, but it kinda takes the imersion out a little.

6. Take less time on crafting/gathering missions

7. Less randomness on reverse engineering recipes.

8. Hearthstone back to ship of some kind. Make it a day cd for all I care.

9. Make companions less retarded when it comes to elevators.

10. Less "DO DAMAGE" skills. They are just smothering my hotbars, and I'm running out of keybinds.

Move the bug report button, I don't know how it is on an American keyboard, but for me it's right next to the 1-button, I often press it by accident, and it takes like 3 mouse-clicks to get the stupid window out of the way so I can start defending myself agaisnt the mob/player again.

And something cosmetic, let the companions ride in the passenger seat when I travel with the auto-speeders, I mean it clearly has a passenger seat!

4. Useable search feature in the Galactic Trade Center where you can type in the exact item you want without having to go through drop down menus and a bunch of other crap.

YES

And umm.. I want to be able to specifically look by gear type and position. For example, heavy headgear. Not just having to select 'heavy' and then search every piece of heavy armor.

Constructive Feedback continued

Now it may just be my age (42! Ahhhhhh) but the text is WAY too small. The only text I can change is in the chat log. Even then what you type is still way too small and only changes size once you actually hit `Enter`

PLEASE Bioware give us a global control to change the size of ALL the text. Same goes for the Map. Unless I'm missing something the only way of actually seeing anything closer is to use the magnify feature. It would help if you could change the scale manually.

Apart from that I am really loving it so far. I do like the medical droid revive that lets you go stealthy to get out of harms way - genius :)

I think there are more important issues, like many have pointed out but I appreciate that you didn't post a "either change this now or this game will go F2P in 2 months" sort of thread.

Also, devs rarely read general, you should post suggestions in the suggestions forum if you want someone to see them

Minor stuff... but annoys the heck out me.

Please fix the companions to not ALWAYS BE IN COMBAT while running.

I've noticed a lot of errors when it comes to not being able to get out of combat ever since I got force cloak.

I just read the first few posts. So sorry if i repeat anything.

1) Macros. It's a huge part of min/maxing your gameplay and helps alot in both PvE and PvP. First thing I tried to do was make a mouse over macro for setting a focus target. I shouldn't have to selecte a target, hit a keybind to set it as my focus, then re-target my kill target.

2) Combat Logs. Would love to collect data to see Dps/Hps etc. It sucks to learn and master a rotation and not know if you're pulling more Dps/Hps then the next guy. Plus, I wanna flex my epeen lol

3) Countdown for buffs & debuffs. The buffs and debuffs are already small as it is. But to add salt to the wound, there's the little grey bar that goes down to indicate its completion. I feel that there should be a small number countdown with in the box. With one glance I would like to see I have 5 seconds left on a buff or w/e instead of guessing when it will drop.

That's just my top three at the moment. I hope to see these things in the game soon.

The big issue with #1, it actually gimps stealth classes in pvp sometimes.

I've had it happen numerous times, engage in combat, fighting a consular, stealth, just before i stealth they use their throw rock ability (whatever the hell it is, the equivalent of shock) i stealth, their rock flies at me, hits, me, and decloaks me because of the time the animation took to get to me and apply the damage

also not sure if it's mentioned and i'm almost positive it's on the way.

"barber" shop would be nice to be able to re-customize looks

5. “You must complete missions before you can do that” should be changed to “Your quest log is full” to avoid confusion.

*stares in elightenment*

.... so I missed all those quests because I was just confused and thought I need to finish some prerequisits.

In any case, thanks for that.

I completely agree with all of the things listed in the original post. Here are a few others I'd like to see.

  1. There needs to be a way to disable the red error text that pops up on the screen (Out of range, etc)

  2. The game needs a combat log so that we can better analyze what's happening in a fight

  3. Opening the Galactic Trade Network should default to your last search options. We have a reset button if we need to start over.

  4. Companions coming back from missions should not automatically close the Galactic Trade Network window but rather be placed in the pending button at the top right corner of the screen.

  5. Chat bubbles would make it a lot easier to notice when someone is saying something; especially in the heat of battle.

  6. The tooltip for crew skill missions in the Galactic Trade Network should tell you if you've already learned the mission or not. Currently you don't find out until you buy and and try to learn it.

  7. Companion skills on the companion quickbar should be moveable and you should be able to move skills over to the mini companion quickbar on the bottom left.

  8. An option to only track mission on your current planet.

Flaws and backfires of this game in my OWN opinion

1 specialism change ,you have no clue where you buy into and if you find you don't like it you have to reroll .

2. this game is complicated because there is no real beefy tutorial on any of the game(pairs with 1.)

3.Every MMO has problems with servers but a web site can never be an excuse. This website needs a bigger pipe or a better provider.the bandwidth is just not enough. This is very bad publicity for new comers.

4 Drop slicing or make it fit and profitable, slicing does not fit because you need 3 skills to do a profession so picking it up will make it harder to get a profession running any way...

Now it changed to a new kind of roulette you lose money and have a slight chance to get a blue print ...

5.Don't react to fast to what vocal people yell on the forum .There is always a silent majority you might slap in the face.In my honest opinion the nerf of slicing is a very sad mistake ,not only it makes goldsellers happy ,less credit with players is more potential profit for them , they work with hackers and that can potentially harm all of us .

Overall i like this game a lot so this is just some i hope that will change or get better

My current number one minor annoyance.

When I turn off a combat ability on my companion (I'm looking at you and your grapple gun Corso!!! I swear I'm going to take that gun and do something very unpleasant to you with it) it keeps turning back on every time I hit an elevator, take a taxi, send him on a mission, or really just make him feel bad.

+1

I can't tell you how many times i felt like breaking stuff after my "tank" companion Khem Val used his aoe spell in the middle of CC'd npc's.

Gets me killed at least once a day :(

I'm so tempted rant and rail here, but I will try to keep a civil tongue, so bear with, please.

First, Interface Design 1.01:

1) Yes/No, True/False type buttons should *always* be oriented in exactly the same way. True/Yes on the left, False/No on the right or vice versa, it makes no difference as long as it is always the same in every dialog that uses that type of response system. Mixing it up just causes problems. People get used to them being in a particular order and if that order ever changes, people wind up doing bad things to themselves by reflex.

2) Having said that, you never place the "I want cookies" button right next to the "Kill my pet cat Sniffles" button. If the effect of two buttons on the same dialog are wildly disparate (I/E one very good, one very bad) then put the two buttons as far apart as possible, to reduce the chance that you will die of a mis-click.

On Bonus Quests:

I've seen any number of quests where all of the objectives are spelled out: Kill 10 of these, 20 of those, and collect 8 of that. Nice and simple, and you can complete the elements in parallel. It's nice.

Then there are the staged bonus quests where you must 1) Kill 10 of these. Then 2) kill 20 of those. Then 3) Kill 15 more of these. Then 4) Collect 5 of that. Then 5) Kill 2 of the other. And on and on and on and on and on. And before you say, "Quit repeating that, it's stupid and redundant.", welcome to the point:rolleyes:

It's hugely frustrating, because you finish an objective and get the, "Ah, done!" high, then BAM! Nope. Sorry. Not done. More to do. Back to the grind, slave. After about the third one, the thing going through my mind is, "Is there an end to this?" It's a mechanic put in place specifically to *punish success*. Or specifically to waste time. Either way, it's not fun.

Its also a mechanic that basically forces you to go through the same area killing the same things over and over again for no reason. If there are several people doing it at the same time, then it's a huge time-waster, because some people are killing things just to get to early stage items that you actually need to kill to finish later stage items, so they're killing your objectives for the sake of *convenience*. It would be nicer if they were like the quests where all of the requirements were specified up front and you can do them in parallel.

On Chain quests:

This is another mechanic borrowed from the MMORPG that Shall Not Be Named. You pick up a quest, travel all the way across the zone and complete it. Then you go back, two more quests are available - and they're in the same area you just left. So you go all the way back across the zone, do the next two, go back and turn them in. Then three more quests pop up that are the same.

For heaven's sake just give all the quests for the same area at once, so we can go there, do them all, and come back. Running cross-country is not, to my mind, "play". It's just time-wasting. To a certain degree it is necessary to maintain the integrity of the environment, but be-bopping back and forth across the exact same turf over and over again is just tedious:(

The strange thing is, in many places it's done exactly like that. If you're headed to an area, all of the quests for that area are available before you leave. But in other places (Tatooine Bonus Series comes to mind) they're set up as chain quests, so you basically spend an hour speeding back and forth between the town and the objective zone over and over.

On Ganking:

There are innumerable places where you must pick things up that are guarded. Typical scenario: You run in, engage the guards, and while you're defeating them, somebody cruises by and grabs the thing that you were trying to get. You can't get the thing because, "You can't do that while in combat." I've had to kill the exact same set of guards four times over to get something just because people were ganking the objective while I was in combat.

Would it not be possible to tie those objectives to the mobs, so that only the person fighting the mob can pick it up for 60 seconds after the guard-mob is dead? That way if I don't want it, somebody else can take advantage of the fact that I left it unguarded for them, but if it's my objective, then I have a reasonable chance to take what I rightfully earned.

Or, alternatively, allow me to grab the item while I'm in combat. Then I can engage the guards, have my companion hold them for the two seconds it takes to claim the objective, then finish the guards off.

Either way, it would provide a means by which these thieves could be thwarted - and yes, that is what they are - thieves. There are nice honorable people who will respectfully stand aside and wait until you leave before they take it for themselves, and others that will sweep in and grab it while you're clearly *heading over to pick it up*

In the Raid-Frame style of party frames, it would be cool if any companion pets showed up in that raid-frame, too. Right now, the only companion pet I can heal easily is my own, but normally the tank wants his pet out. The only way I can heal it is to find it, click on it in the pet in the display, and then heal it.

That takes way too much time so it's usually necessary to just let the tank's pet die. Then the tank gets mad, and since he's not a healer, it's hard to explain that his pet is expendable while mine is not simply because I have a targeting frame for my pet. I can target and heal it in a second, while for his, I have to run up to it (usually), change my view to be looking almost straight down, click on it, heal, then change my view back and resume normal healing - all tolled it can take upwards of 8 seconds.

Without knowing the specifics of how those raid frames are programmed, it seems like it would be a simple enough change. In the regular frames, the party member's pets show up.

2. Sprint (35% speed increase out of combat) should be on by default. I don’t know anyone that wants to move slower + having to keep turning it back on after every death gets tedious.

DISAGREE VEHEMENTLY.

Turning off sprint when I want to makes it so that I can eventually make my way to the idiot effing holocrons that BioWare decided to hide behind a 1970's ********************************** platformer.

This change would not be an improvement. Why in the world do you want BioWare to take more options????? They have already taken more than any other mmo developer by locking everyone into the single most linear experience in RPG gaming history, well since Dragon Age 2. :)
