The Secret World Subscription Changes

What is now required to be able to play The Secret World?

Everyone who has purchased (or will purchase) the game can now enjoy the full game without being required to sign-up for a monthly fee. This means that all of the heralded story-line and all of the game content available right now can be played as you please without requiring any additional payment. * you don't allow ops so yeah fail.

Are there any restrictions to what a free player has access to?

No. You have access to all the content available right now, including all playfields, all missions; you may enter all lairs, participate in raids, learn all abilities, use all equipment and so on. ******you get to enjoy the game and then buy things to make it better not just make us hate the game and expect money from people to make it a little more tolerable.

What is a 'Membership'?

For those dedicated to the game there is an optional Membership available which also includes some great items and services:

'The Time Accelerator'. This clickable item increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour and has a 16 hour cool-down. This item can only be used by Members and Grand Masters.

$10 worth of Bonus Points given out every month which can be used towards any product in the Item Store of The Secret World (bonus points are valid for 6 months).

Membership Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month).

10% discount to everything in the Item Store except Content Packs or other Packs (discounts to the Item Store do not stack with other offers). ***** That's right you give subs more xp not punish people with less.

What about Grand Masters?

The Grand Master Lifetime Option continues to yield all the benefits given to Members and more! As a Grand Master customer you receive everything that Membership customers get, every month, lifelong. In addition to that we have increased the Item Store discount to 20% for everything in the Item Store except Content Packs or other Packs. ***** Try lifetime subs.

What will this discount in the Item Store be valid for?

What used to be a discount of 10% discount to only social items in the Item Store has now been extended to be a discount on everything in the store. As Members are getting a 10% discount to everything in the store, Grand Masters will receive 20% discount to everything in the store! ***** discounts for subs will make them less pissed about no new in game updates only bought gear... not much less pissed but anything helps.

What about future content updates?

Periodically we will release packs of DLC (Downloadable Content). The main content in these packs will be a story leading to unique rewards/items through missions. These packs are fully optional and can be purchased for the Bonus Points that are included in the optional Membership, as well as with the points offered with Grand Master Lifetime service. Players without a Membership or a Grand Master Service can of course as well purchase new DLC content in the Item Store. ***** and that's how you get money... you earn it by making new things not just saying to people pay us because f*^k You that's why.

Again i post this because i want to see the game succeed. This is how. You will NEVER do what wow does but you can have some success with this.

Your post is needlessly inflammatory and rude at the end. However, you're also correct. While I don't have a problem with SWTOR, I do believe that The Secret World has done it better, from the player's perspective anyway. Now we have to hope it works out for Funcom financially. This is how we do it!

It's Friday night, and I feel all right!

The party is here on the West side ...

Sorry, I came in here expecting a blast from the past and instead it's the free-to-play / subscription model for another game. Well, I guess SWTOR is no longer the fastest game to go from subscription to free to play anymore.

Heh, that was my thought as well.

Personally couldn't stand TSW, though some people really dig it.

I get that people always want as nonrestrictive play as possible, though it's not really helpful to point out TSW's model at this point unless it actually proves to me more sucessful than SWTOR's.

There's no doubt it is more generous to the player and less restrictive. But it will be fascinating to see if they wind up pulling back on their current generosity.

Based on the QQing in the TSW forums.... it's NOT the way to do it. :) The temporary nature of the points bothers most, and some Lifetimers are feeling keester hurt about it. The fact that monthly content updates must be purchased with points has not fully sunk in over there yet. That effectively means no subscription = no patches, unless you pay for them separately.

Personally, the two games are different and I'm fine with the Freemium approach each is taking.

Some don't like it some do. Combat wise not so much but it has a better story and better quests with better voice acting..... go figure i wonder what they paid compared to swtor lol. That being said its not for everyone. If the combat were better i'd say it was the better product over swtor as it stands now its a toss up. But remember they release new content every month or at least will try to. Swtor...... no. Not really their fault as i'm sure the hero engine this game uses is about as friendly as recluse spider.

I highly disagree with the better voice acting. The combat is more interesting for sure, though.

VA's are mostly paid about the same across the board except for the very special, high in demand celebrity ones.

All this being said it would be nice if it worked out for them as tsw is not that bad but we are all missing the point. TSW and swtor are BOTh single player games where the company wanted more than just 60 bucks and done. Swtor is kotor 3 with extra fees for things no one wants. 99 percent of the people playing would have prefered kotor 3 over this. And tsw as a single player game..... would have been awesome.

But now it almost kinda is. You buy it and play all you want. Which is what we want. And buying the add on's is like buying dlc take your pick get what you want or don't. You choose. Swtor...... make the game with class missions only erase everything else then we'll talk... lol.

But we'll see what happens hope things turn out well. If things do work out for TSW though imagine this. You buy a game like that at 60 new 30 after a year as is. Then you pay for dlc that you want to advance your story.

So say for swtor, you get an option to buy it play the class stories.... if you only like then then should they ever expand them with a chapter 4 you but it. You could contine your saga forever that way as they would still make money. It would be almost as costly as paying a sub buy you GET something for it. You don't pay because you have too. Now this i like. Maybe Someone loves pvp they make a dlc for 3 new warzones. That person can buy it while i pass and save my money till they make something i deem worth it. And reverse is true.

Point is if the plain old 60 dollar game model no longer works...( It would if EA didn't have 35 vice presidents but thats another point.) then this would work. And stop this mmo monthly fee crap.

Oh and off topic a bit with so many vp's getting 6 figure salaries. I have 3 hospitals near me the smallest one has 25 vp's the other 2 have more all getting 6 figures a year plus and do not do a single thing. they bill out cat scans at $1200 each japan charges $50 and many other over charges like that. fix those 2 things and fix healthcare by leaps and bounds in america....... sorry had to the vp thing got me rolling lol.

Firstly I wan't to say you bring up a interesting point about the games model but the rest of what you say I very much disagree with and I will explain further

I really am getting tired of this comparison between this and KOTOR. This is a MMO not a single player game. It is has many elements are single player orientated but the game itself is NOT single player. Also i am not sure if you noticed but many people are willing to pay this so called extra fees you mentioned. The fees themselves are from the cartel market and regardless of some people's disappointing it sure its making BW tons of money.

But the very notion that you want to strip down this game into a solo adventure with just class stories tells me you should not be playing MMO's. The fact is what you want WILL NEVER happen and if a single player experience is what you want I can recommend plenty of games that can offer you that.
