Well, just my short opinion here.

People on my server (it's an English one) write in French, Dutch, Polish, German and so on even in general chats. And, by the way, there are German letters - e.g. ä, ö, ü (even in character names!). Why we have German letters on English servers and no Cyrillic, then? And, by the way, when people have names with German letters - I can't even whisper them (when not replying or seeing directly), unless I go into the internet and find "ö" for "Döds" (e.g.) and copy-paste it. Fair?

I dont need Russian letters in open channels - just guild / party / whispers. That's it.

I'm tired of writing like this in guild chat:

"Ya ne ponimayu, chto, tak slojno sdelat dolbannuyu podderjku cyrillici, chto by my ne pisali postoyanno translitom?!"

And, by the way, inequity is everywhere. For example, people in the CIS (GMT+4 and more), cannot play in the evenings when it's maintenance, because it's suited for our precious US players only. In Europe it's mid-day (still bad but bearable), in Moscow it's simply evening (prime-time).

Ðóññêèì ïðèâåò.

+10000!!! You are right! We need only Cyrillic fonts for conversation whith friends!

My post for Russian language speakers only (sorry guys, from another parts of the world):

I dont want to be a dick here but...

I am Greek. Should I ask greek alphabet in chat?

Dont take me the wrong way and I do love russians but if the server is not russian, then Cyrillic will only be a problem to people who dont speak english, which is servers main language.

I hope you see my point.

So the main problem is that there are no Russian servers.

Make russian Servers bioware! I vote for that.

(and yes i seen what some people said that they wont use it on general but come on, who are we kidding here? I seen it in other games and it was hell cause I love the way your leters look but I DONT UNDERSTAND a thing )

I'm fine with Cyrillic.

Lets see. US servers. Are there Russian Communities living in the United States that play on US servers that want to speak their native tongue?

What!? We have people in the US that speak more than just English!!

BTW there is a spanish speaking guild on my server. I'm sure they aren't all from Spain just trying to ruin our server with their foreign like language skills.

Would just like to have a say in this.

I am a Russian playing in a multicultural semi-hardcore guild on EU Kellian Jarro, we have Americans, Britts, Poles, Germans, Finns, and many other nations represented. We are very close and supportive of each other, I would not imagine leaving them for a national guild. We do NOT let politics and international issues intervene with our relationship, and that binds us even tighter. I thus resent any provocative troll people who Soviet-Commie-Tovarish joke this thread into pointless obscenity and profanity.

I previously played with a Russian guild, though, and it was very annoying to communicate in our own language through Latin. I mean, no one is talking full voice&text localization, separate servers etc. (like in WoW), but if you (EA games) make a strategic pre-launch country-wide PR-campaign for SWTOR in Russian let us at least communicate among ourselves in our own lingo FFS. None of us ever Latin-type Russian in general chat, and there's no indication it would change should we get Cyrillic support.

As far as I know, there have been large autonomous Russian-speaking communities established on Starstorm One, Nightmare Lands and Trask Ulgo EU servers, and multiple national large guilds elsewhere, so Unicode support would be especially called for there.

I call out to BioWare and EA to address this issue, and if you're smart, you will reap the rewards of a notably increased Russian playerbase just having shown us THAT much attention.

Both hands for support of cyrillic and other non-latin languages. It should be no problem at all to make those all available in non-public channels only, so it wouldn't bother anyone else.

I support this under a couple of pre-conditions:

1) English must be used in the main chat for non-Russian (normal EU/US) servers.

2) Create a Russian server (or Russian PvE and PvP servers) where Russian players can speak Russian openly anywhere.

Kind regards

llesna

Still no Cyrillic?

While I am not Russian, I am versed in Russian (the language) and I would like to practice with eventual fellow Russian speaking gamers.

Besides, I'd love my character's names to be in Cyrillic.

Matter of fact there should be support for all the major alphabets. In an ideal world, there should be support for every alphabet from canadian syllabic and tupi guarani to latin, but for now I guess having Greek and Cyrillic is already something.

It is certainly an easy fix and a most necessary one.
