RiseOfDeath
Firstly, keep in mind that I'm completely new to this type of MMO (I've never played WoW much or anything like this). Now, I've been wondering what I should spend my talent points on mainly. I already spent a bit (level 16), but I can reset them and start over, right? Anyway.. I was reading this site: http://blackrabbit2999.blogspot.com/2011/12/swtor-sith-assassin-comprehensive-guide.html I like the idea of a deception assassin. A high DPS rate is what I'm going for mainly. I'd also like to be able to self-heal and tank, though, since I'm noticing that if Khem dies I'm done for if I don't kill the mob quickly. I'm not going to be PVPing, so this is going to be for PVE. Help? I was thinking either this or this: 1. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200Mc0MZhGMRkhMrtzZc.1 2. http://swtorsithassassin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/deception_build-602x326.jpg I need some advice. Krissam
First of, welcome to the wonderful world of MMOs. One thing you need to consider when chosing talents is, what will you be using them for? If you're doing mainly PvE you will want to focus on talents that increases your sustained damage while players focusing on PvP will want huge amounts of burst and/or survivability. Talents like Static Charges and Electric Execution are good examples of sustained damage talents, on the other hand, while Deceptive Power does yield some extra damage, it's PURE burst, gives you x amount of damage every fight and Chainshock essentially gives your shock chance to double crit. Now, as I haven't studied our rotation well enough nor is there a combatlog available, no one can tell you anything is better than anything else, it's all preferences, but I would tell you, when trying to figure out how to spec, take the above into consideration. Just going to point out that if you want a build focused on dealing as much Shock damage possible you pretty much need to go into Darkness for Energize. Lina_Inverse
Just going to point out that if you want a build focused on dealing as much Shock damage possible you pretty much need to go into Darkness for Energize. This is not true. The build he posted does a lot more shock damage (especially on crits) and is built around doing so. This is a build I've used extensively in PvP and PvE at 50 with and without gear in the beta and now in live and I can tell you with extreme certainty that his build is the most damage you can get out of shock. I suppose it would be a little situational in a Deception-based build. Personally I would be using Lacerate quite a bit as I'm usually in the heat of things (unless I'm defending a turret in Alderaan that isn't being attacked of course), so getting Energize procs is very frequent and that means guaranteed shock crits (especially considering Crackling Blasts) that can be used more often. I honestly wouldn't underestimate just how good Energize really is. I'm biased though as I'm a Darkness assassin so I get Energize anyway and use Thrash instead of Voltaic Slash. Having Energize + Electrify + Induction + Chain Shock (2/3) has been extremely successful for me. And yes, I was in Beta too. I used the Back button instead of clicking the forum header and it brought me to "Thank You For Posting..." Really Bioware?

Deception is nice for crazy burst DPS. I like the fact you an also choose your battles in stealth and if things get hairy you can force cloak and ****! Makhbet
Deception is nice for crazy burst DPS. I like the fact you an also choose your battles in stealth and if things get hairy you can force cloak and ****! You can do that in any spec. Anyway, I played Darkness up untill 30 and questing was easy. Then I switched to Deception, cause tank spec was really annoying in pvp, and I got most of my xp from pvp. With Deception it's tougher to beat elite bosses in class story, plus groups with 2-3 strong mobs can give you a rough time, but the dps is good enough that with proper use of abilities you can get through anything. But tbh I think from lvl 40 Madness might be the best solo spec, excellent dps + dot healing is good for killing stuff.
