XP: Click Start, then Run and type "shell:Local AppData" (without quotes). Then browse to SWTOR \ swtor \ settings.

Vista/7: Click Start, type "%localappdata%\swtor\swtor\settings" (without quotes).

Thanks a ton! I found it and changed the .ini file, worked like a charm. PvP is playable now yay!

Heya... I've been trying to figure out a way to make the game playable on my laptop. It is very glitchy and feels more like a flipbook than a game :p I would love to get a new computer soon but for now, this is it. It's an older laptop but I've never had issues playing other games (Read: WoW). I turned off shadows and bloom, set the grass/tree settings to low. I added your line of code and yet, I'm still having problems. Maybe I am missing something that you computer savvy guys might see.

I have NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS and I just downloaded the newest driver. My system seems to be up to date.

I’ve edited your client and graphics ini’s, Things I have changed:

-D3DFullScreen to false, not sure if that will do anything

- TextureQuality to 0

- VerticalSyncState to false, no point in making the video card wait!

- PlantDensity to 0. No grass equals faster speeds!

- FarClipScale = 0.3371195 to FarClipScale = 0.1371195. A guy mentioned that was the lowest settings he saw in his beta ini before the command was removed at launch.

-(Added): AntiAliasingLevel = 0

enableadvenvirolighting = false

DebugAdvEnviroLighting = false

TextureAnisotropy = 0

MeshLODQuality = 0

DynamicLightsLimit = 0

-(Added to Graphicsmirror): Graphics_ClipDistance = 0.1, Graphics_VerticalSync = false

Feel free to change anything and to re-enable read-only when your done!

OK, my 30fps was short lived. All through out flashpoints I was lagging so bad due to fps that I had trouble healing. I have never ran into a game I couldn't play on the lowest settings, and ini tweaks to turn EVERYTHING OFF!

I hope they fix this in the future, in the mean time I must wait 2 months before I can game again on my gaming desktop.

Thanks for the help-- I've been reading a lot of the complaints about the fps being so low and I guess it's a very common problem. I just blamed it on my laptop being old- but it has never given me this much of a problem before.

I guess we'll just have to have patience and hope that they'll get these issues fixed. It's a beautiful game and so rich in lore-- it's just a shame something like this could ruin it. :( It's also hard to revert back to a game that runs like this when a lot of us are so used to our bajillion fps on a game as refined as WoW is.

I have had no performance issues with this tweak and the game looks absolutely amazing for me. I think SLI users have been having bi-polar issues

Gigabyte Mobo GA-890FXA-UD5

EVGA Nvidia 560ti super overclocked

The problem I am having is the game plays beautifully (58-62 fps) for mins (sometimes 10-15, sometimes 2-3) and then a severe drop in frame rate (down to 2-5 fps) for maybe 1-1.5 min and then shoot back up into the 60s, only to repeat the process all over again.

My question is, is this the problem most everyone else is having or is everyone else suffering from a constant 10-20 fps? I would like to know before I go tinkering with the ini's if my problem is different. My issue has nothing to do with moving, flytext, etc. I can be standing still doing nothing, looking at the floor and this can happen. And yes, I have tried turning every setting down to the lowest as stated and this is getting really annoying. (Core 2 Duo 2.5, 6G ram (4.4G free))

TIA...

I'm bumping this I started another thread on this but just found this one... If they can add the Distance view changer thing back then that'll help a crap ton of players... currently I only run about 20 FPS but I know with being able to change the view distance i'll easly be able to play with 50+

so whom it may concern.

after this patch i also noticed drop in fps, i tried that FarClipScale trick, it didnt help though.

then i noticed that grass was much more detailed than i am used to, but grass quailty slider was on 0%. Hm, i moved it to 100%, applied, moved to 0%, applied, grass gone, fps jumped up.

That does SOOOO sound like your GPU is overheating, and to protect itself it lowers the power it uses to cool down... when it has reached a desired cool, it gives your the perfomance back... till it overheats again... and it loops... you need better cooling or clock it down so it doesn't get to the point where it has to cool down.

Hi guys, I have tried to set the view distance to minimum in so many ways and still nothing:( I am playing the game on minimum settings, so if some1 knows how to edit the client settings. ini and the graphisc,ini in a general way i would realy be glad if he could change mine.

My .ini are the following:

Client.ini

[Renderer]

Buckets = 1

D3DFullScreen = true

GraphicsDeviceId = 38226

Height = 768

MeshLODQuality = 0

NativeHeight = 768

NativeWidth = 1366

TextureAnisotropy = 1

Width = 1366

WindowX = 0

WindowY = 0

EnableBloom = false

AllowDepthOfField = false

TextureQuality = 1

UseMinSpecShaders = true

doShadows = false

doBlobShadows = false

PlantDensity = 0

SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 0.75

[Game]

MoviesFolder = ..\..\Movies

SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic

Graphic.ini

[settings]

Graphics_Buckets = loc:11020:preferences

Graphics_Bloom = false

Graphics_ConversationDepthOfField = false

Graphics_TextureQuality = loc:11012:preferences

Graphics_ShaderComplexity = loc:11012:preferences

Graphics_MeshLodQuality = loc:11012:preferences

Graphics_TextureAnisotropy = loc:11012:preferences

Graphics_ShadowQualityDropdown = loc:160002:preferences

Graphics_GroundClutterDensity = 0.0

Graphics_SpeedTreeDistance = 0.75

Graphics_Resolution = 1366x768

Help would be much ipriciated.

I just bought a cheap laptop for my son to play and when I first started the game it was getting about 5 fps which was unplayable. After changing those settings in the .ini files and saving them again as read only it's now getting 20-50fps depending on if it's inside or out. So changing those settings has certainly worked, thanks to all those who worked out how to do this.

Great news lads! :p

I've managed to decrease draw distance... And I will show you how to do it in few simple steps!

Go to:

(this is on Windows 7, installed on C: drive :p )

C:\Users\<computer name>\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings

Replace <computer name> with your windows username!

in "settings" folder you will find a file called "client_settings.ini" - right click on it and select "Open with > Notepad"

My file looks like this:

[Renderer]
D3DFullScreen = true
EnableBloom = false
Height = 768
NativeHeight = 1024
NativeWidth = 1280
RefreshRate = 85
TextureQuality = 1
UseMinSpecShaders = true
VerticalSyncState = true
Width = 1024
WindowX = 0
WindowY = 0
FarClipScale = 0.3371195
PlantDensity = 14
SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 0.82336956
AllowDepthOfField = false
doShadows = false
doBlobShadows = false

[Game]
MoviesFolder = ..\..\Movies
SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic

So... Now u have to find "PlantDensity", in your "client_settings.ini", and INSERT

FarClipScale = 0.3371195

ABOVE "PlantDensity".

(You can also try 0.1371195 or 0.5371195, but I know that 0.3371195 works perfectly for me!)

Don't FORGET to SAVE your "client_settings.ini" after u add "FarClipScale = 0.3371195".

After you've done that, close your "client_settings.ini" and right click on it - > Properties. On the bottom of Properties window you'll see a check box "Read-only". Check it! Now you should be ready to play!

I hope this helps!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This has GREATY increased performance.. I'm playing perfectly smooth on my baddie computer. I went from 10-20 fps to 30-40 fps! thank you micq!

You know what... my computer runs the game great maxed out but i see the utter frustration with my friends comupter when he tries to play...an from WoW expirience i know that the draw distance would make it fine to play...he pretty much has to quit cuz there is no draw distance.... BioWare why would you do this? this is probably one of the biggest flaws ive seen in the game yet.... this is UNSAT:mad:

Maybe it's because I'm running Vista but I can't even find the client_settings.ini file.

I've turned everything in-game down to the utter minimum--even reduced the screen down to an utterly horrible 800x600--and it's still laggy as heck. Yet I can see so far off into the distance. Why? Why can't we turn this down in-game without resorting to rooting around in ini files, which I can't even find?
