Powertech Alt, lvling suggestions?

I'm not new to SWTOR. Been here since release. 41 Commando, 42 Scoundrel and various others in the teens and 20s.

 

I have new Powertech I am working on. I know they mirror the Vangard so the BASE class is basicaly the same as my Commando. I'll be running prinarily PvE quest grinding with Mako healing.

 

Should I go tank or DPS and what spec lines do you recommend? Briefly explain why.

Shieldtech:

+ you pretty much never die

+ you can solo Heroic 2+ with Mako

- it takes forever to kill anything

 

Pyrotech:

+ you kill much faster

- you take more damage

- most likely can't solo Heroic 2+

 

Advanced Prototype:

- don't try this until level 40+ (you really need Immolate to be viable)

 

This is how I leveled:

Shieldtech from 10 to 22

Pyrotech from 22 to 40

Advanced Prototype from 40 on

 

I personally hate tanking, which is why I spent most of my time as the dps specs. I used shieldtech early on though because during the early levels you don't have enough skills or talent points to make the other specs viable. Also, you're probably scrounging for gear at this point so the extra protection from shield is nice.

 

I prefer AP to pyro so I switched to it as soon as I was 40. You really need to be 40 in order to use AP though because 40 is when you can get immolate, which is one of your best abilities and is needed to solidify the AP priority (without immolate it's extremely clunky/weird).

Useful information, thanks. Levelling my first Powertech breezed up to lvl 22 using 'shield tech' tree. Have switched over to 'pyro' now and currently lvl 24. Very squishy now though and certainly won't be attempting H2+ on my own.
