For actual in-game interactions they help, otherwise you may as well be using a seperate chat program.

But see here is the issue.. That is strictly your opinion.. I am sure you are getting on just fine with the current ingame chat system.. Which is my point..

You make it sound like you all are handicapped because there is no chat bubble.. If that is the actually the case, then you have my sympathies.. Such limited options for communication can't be healthy..

By the way.. I actually do use another chat program for my gaming.. It is called Ventrilo.. My guildies and I chat with eachother everyday.. ;)

Once again, how is it SWG could do almost all the things people are complaining about BACK THEN, and Bio/EA can't do it now???!!! I really miss that game...

SWG never had over 500k player subs.. For the last 4 years it was active it had less than 100k subscriptions.. Lets hope this game doesn't do a lot of things that game did.. This game was never meant to be SWG 2.0.. Let's not try to make it that..

See for yourself..

I love it when people spin it like "this isn't meant to be SWG 2". Yeah, no ****

I wonder how many more threads we would have about people griping about performance and the game engine with they added chat bubbles..

I wonder how many more customers they have to lose before they fix their crappy engine and get working features in the game that were in MMOs a decade ago

proves you have no idea why this feature is needed. . .and you're just another 'dont put it in the game because I dont need it' person

grow up kid, there's more people playing this game than just you. I dont even CARE about chat bubbles nor would i use them or anything. But I know it's is a highly requested feature by the RP community. Not like 1-2 people in the community, just about ALL of them

wouldn't an RP carebear WANT chat bubbles in the game? I mean really that's who keeps asking for this feature. . .the RPers. lol

^ Gotta agree with this lol

do you think an RPer wants to sit and stare at the chat window to be able to talk to someone. or have to sort through 50+ other people talking on the fleet. just to see the /say messages that are being said in the middle Cantina area

^ Yeah, just no. Having to sort through all the chat? You can't be serious, right? There's this amazing thing called creating a tab and customizing it. You don't NEED chat bubbles and honestly with everything this game is lacking/needing how is it I see chat bubbles and same gender romance options popping up like an elderly with viagra?

I dont think you know this game or it's players at all :p

^ It seems like YOU do, so why don't you enlighten us a little bit, oh wait...

I love it when people fail to read a provided quote.. I didn't spin anything.. The person I quoted mentioned SWG.. Sorry you missed it...

He mentioned something SWG had and wondered how this game couldn't handle it when the older one he mentioned could. Nothing there says he's wanting it to be SWG 2  amirite?

It's not my opinion, it's just how it is, using say (especially with it being so similar to /1 by default) is pretty much the same as a chat program.

A chat bubble provides an in-game visual of someone actually talking (and perhaps talking to you).

Without it it can be 5 mins later before you realise that person you ran past asked you if you'd mind helping them (and you weren't ignoring them you simply didn't see the chatbox text because you were looking at your character).

Now clearly an actual in-game voiced response would be best, but we're probably decades away from that in an MMORPG, so for the moment chat-bubbles do the job.

I understand a lot of people play SWTOR like a single player game, and so for them chat-bubbles are pointless and maybe annoying (like other players, perhaps). But for those that don't play like that they can be a great boon, interaction-wise.

I agree. Besides, it's far easier to run up to a person and have a chat bubble next to you rather than be forced to whisper the guy for attention.

Every suggestion thread basically comes down to one question.

"Will the addition or amendment of this feature retain enough customers to justify the time, cost and prioritisation of development and maintenance?"

I personal don't think it will. But RPers do need to be thrown a bit of a bone, as there is very little in the game to keep them around as it is.

In my opinion, an MMO without chat bubbles is hardly an MMO -- they may not be for everyone, but for the people that use them, they are an indispensable part of the MMO experience. Get it done Bioware..It can't be that hard! Edited by MuratReis

The issue right now is probably not "getting it done" so to speak, since they existed in a beta stage, but making them not lag the game(which is why they were removed).

But you think an LFG tool is? I mean if you're talking about priorities(or whoever you spelled that lolololol) and what our players NEED(you said need), then an LFG tool was simply not needed.

Sure people wanted it. But people were forming groups just find without it. And some still dont use the LFG tool to form groups even with it in.

You dont NEED speeders in the game, you dont NEED quick travel in the game, you dont NEED a lot of stuff in the game. But the devs add stuff that players want. Which will, like you said, help retain the customers you have if you can keep them happy.

how are chat bubble going to fix that problem? if you are in a cantina with a good amount of people all with chat bubbles how are you going to read what the person you are talking to is say when it is obscured by someone else chat bubble..

I don't know man, I really don't. I talk to people about this constantly as I've been involved in MMO roleplaying communities since 1998.

You've still got to read it. In the chat box, you read the name first, and what they're saying. With the bubble, you've lost the context of the person, it's replaced with an arrow, and the 2D graphics in the 3D world mean that if someone is standing right by them, that bubble is going to be hidden by one right by it.

All I can think of is laziness, really. Either that or people who read slower than I do, and I'm not exactly a fast reader--compared to my wife anyway.

May have had employees involved in other MMOs, but as a company it's their first venture into MMO waters.

There was no such thing as the Bioware EA company that made SWTOR before it started on SWTOR.

It was basically built from the ground up, the only thing in common it really had with old Bioware was a few people and the name.

However they did have a LOT of people experienced with MMORPGs in this development team - "it was their first MMORPG" just isn't really true, whatever mistakes were made were made for other reasons.

Yep, I can understand people not liking them and wanting to be able to turn them off, but for actual in-game character interaction there's still nothing better than them around.

Then they need to be put on the RP servers ONLY and no where else.
