8Gig or 16Gig? What's your opinion?

sorry but that is utter BS.

First of all, without a 64 bit version of Windows, the system does not even recognize more than 4 GIG.

Second, there is no game with a 64bit client to make use of more than 3 GIG.

If you don't need to have a video editing software open at the same time with 12 GIG of footage loaded while playing TOR, 16 GIG are a complete waste of money.

Only thing you stated correct is requires a 64 bit OS. Without 64bit more than 3 GB is a waste of money since OS can not use it. Win7 uses 12GB plus very good and makes the system a lot more responsive and faster.

You also can get 12GB for under $90 USD and 16GB under $130 USD. That is down right cheap for good memory.

The real issue with 8GB versus 16 GB (in relation to programs) isn't "will the program/game/whatever use it?" Most applications don't and won't come near using a systems maximum memory. There are exceptions, of course, but as a general rule no single application is going to take up all your systems RAM - if you have a lot of RAM. The real issue is "How many applicaitons are you going to run at the same time?" That is how you'll use up your entire pool of system RAM.

If you are only ever going to run one game/application at a time, then 6GB or 8GB is plenty of overkill. If you think you might want to run SWTOR (about 2GB), WoW (about 1GB), Rift (about 2GB), maybe 5 or 6 browser windows (totalling 1GB 'cuz they have videos and dynamic content), and maybe an extra copy of SWTOR so you can dual-box and power level an alt (another 2GB), then you might want to look into getting more than 8GB so that each application can be kept in actual RAM and not be swapped to the hard drive.

And don't forget that your OS will probably be taking up between 1 and 2GB of RAM on its own.

This game runs in 32 bit, as far as i know 32-bit processes can't make use of more than 2 gb at a time.

Swtor can always surprise you: Swtor uses 3Gb+ of Ram

It was from Ilium's days though, and i'm necroing the thread, so yeah...
