DataBeaver
So, everyone has sprint now, right from level 1. Why was it kept as a separate ability, rather than just removing the ability and giving everyone a permanent 35% speed boost? Is there some situation where you might want to turn sprint off? Previously, I took it off a few times when I was playing with someone that didn't have sprint yet, to match speed with them. If I want to move with greater precision (such as with some of the datacron puzzles), I use the run/walk toggle key and don't touch sprint. Now, someone is probably going to say that roleplayers might not want to rush everywhere. I'll argue that running is still visually running, whether sprint is enabled or not. What's missing is a brisk walk; the current walk has a rather leisurely pace. Best would be if there was a continuous scale for movement speed, from zero to maximum. Darth_Moonshadow
It gets you from Point A to Point B faster. That was the point.

That's a good question, I wonder how many people even know how to turn run off being that it's not on a skill button?
Serbegorn
Ease of implementation probably. It's a lot simpler to change a 10 to a 1. If they just bumped everyone's normal run speed to +35% what happens to speeders that are +100/110, etc? Laziness is why.
OddballEasyEight
They should have put it in at lvl 5 or 10 so that new players at least feel that theyve earned it...
DarthSpuds
That's a good question, I wonder how many people even know how to turn run off being that it's not on a skill button? It really helps to have Sprint turned off for some of the "platform jumping" for the Datacrons on Coruscant and Nar Shaddaa. All The Best
tkinnunzero
You turn it off for roleplaying, or for making tricky jumps to get to datacrons, or it gets turned off automatically when you get into combat.
Farho
I turn sprint off when I'm going for the platformer datacrons.
Ritterific
I agree, if sprint is going to be literally base line, THAT movement speed should be the default movement speed. I'm guessing this is a "band-aid" while they code the change. At least that's the only reasonable explaination I can think of...

DaveyboyW
There are certain jumps, mainly for datacrons, where it is helpful to be able to turn it off. I guess this is the reason for having it as a toggle.
ConradLionhart
It is probably easier to code.
Darklord_Varus
You get to look cool running in slow motion when you turn it off.
Devlonir
... or it gets turned off automatically when you get into combat. This. Sprint is the speed the game wants you to be able to run out of combat, the basic run speed without sprint is the combat speed the game is designed around. PVP and PVE are designed and balanced around the run speed without Sprint. That is why it is still a seperate ability.
SajmanPeetee
It's a test, like getting 2 points for putting your name on the paper
JAPredator
No real reason to take it out, you might want to turn it off you might not either way it helps to have the option.
Warsaken
The answer is simple. In an upcoming update, we're getting faster versions of sprint through the legacy system. Therefore we need the ability in the game still for the code to function properly, most likely.
FITorion
It gets turned off during combat. That's the main reason. Then there are the incidentals of roleplaying and tricky jumps.
