Rage spec will always be best for maruader

It's also a vid of him doing this to pre-50's who have no Expertise rating. Try doing the same thing against someone with full Expertise... not as easy. Even harder against a person who knows how to avoid the smash. Even better if you are trying to smash a group as one of their guys does a knockback so your Rage Smash does 0 damage. That's always awesome!

usowrong...Surge got nerfed making that video out of date

The actual reason is that its pre 1.1 in which level 50 with expertise and stacking all buffs (not possible anymore) would do over 80% - 100% more damage than you can expect from players today in equal gear. The surge nerf in contrast was minor in comparison (~15% on crit damage).

I would gladly challenge a Rage Mara with my Anni Mara and see who wins.

I already know the outcome. :D

Hope this helps with your decision.

Rage is trash for dueling, that doesnt mean its a bad spec. Of course, Annihilation is just awesome right now.

My point exactly. And as a squishy Mara, flying into a fight and Smash critting people is fun and all, but people will be after you in that situation and you have little survivabiity. As Anni, 1v1 is the way to go. So I try to single out healer, someone weak, or someone near the back of the pack while keeping a low profile. By the time their team comes to the rescue, they are usually dead anyway.

Annihilation just has too many useful tools currently, and there is no reason why everyone shouldn't at least try it out.

Maras aren't squishy. The class has better durability than any class in the game short of a full tank spec and geared PT or tank Assassin.

Furthermore, Rage spec has +7% passive damage reduction over Annihilation (3% internal/bleed over Anni). Nevermind the potential abuse of a 45s UR.

In a group cluster****, Rage has both more survivability and effectiveness.

Anni is stronger for, as you say, humping a healer or solo target while not being cluster****ed by 5 players.

Rage also requires much less raw contact time for its damage execution, allowing the Marauder to joust a bit and better manage the 5 players from a spatial standpoint.

Edit:

Annihilation is more suited to pug solo queue play than Rage by a significant margin, however:

1. Pug solo queue trends to players on your team sucking and not dealing with healers appropriately. Annihilation spec healer-hump is a great solution to this problem.

2. Maps like Huttball in a pug trend towards blitz ball caps where a solo hero Assassin or Jugg run across the whole map (again because you/your team is bad). With more "premade" work and more skill overall, this tends to drag, and the ball carrier will more often be surround by allies attempting to protect them. This meta leans towards Rage spec for clearing space.

Granted our CD's are up. We're nothing without them :(

You can't forget annihilations damage mitigation via the self healing.

I don't think spec is going to matter much in a group cluster **** or when we're getting focused down.

check out my other blue line. If you're getting focused down and your healer is still active they're doing something wrong.

IMO let the juggernauts have their spec...

As rage I don't lose to anyone in duels. Well one shadow tank one time but there were many asterisks to that loss ;P
