Healing dummies are there to ensure that you won't get your team annihilated in a raid boss, because they are kinda tuned to be fought with healers in the attacker side, right? Why not on self? Because of self heal increases from stats. Dummy can be a perfect neutral target. Why not on companion? Well, because healers like combat logs for the same reason dps like them.
