Just as my desktop is currently broken I can only only be working off my laptop. My problems are the load times between areas or switching instances to join up for a group quest.

My specs are

Intel Core i5 CPU M450 @2.40GHz

4gb RAM

64 bit Windows

NVIDIA GeForce 310M

My drivers are up to date but the slow load times are killing me especially in group play.

Any ideas how i can help load times or is the system im running this on simply too slow ?

While the 310M is probably a bit low on the scale, it shouldn't be causing extended load times. There are a number of threads throughout the forums concerning long load times, so it may simply be an optimization issue affecting random installs. That said, that you are on a laptop suggests that you might be using a low-RPM HDD. Given how HDD-dependent this game is, you might consider this a starting point for your investigation into this issue.

Very nice. Unless you plan on using it for something other than gaming, the i7 2600k might be overkill. An i5 2500(k) would serve you just as well for that purpose.

On this particular model i7 is the only option, I might look at other models and see if I can get the same specs but with a different processor, if it works out a lot less. If I can't then I'll just keep it as it is.

Yeah, that's about what I thought. In this day and age, I generally recommend folks try to stick with 7200RPM and above unless they're going for pure data storage. You could grab the exact same drive @7200 w/twice the on-drive cache for ~$100, but I'm not sure I would go that far to upgrade that laptop, given the video chipset you're working with.

You might try a defragging utility a little more comprehensive than the standard Windows defrag. I use MyDefrag, for instance. Let that chew on your system for a few hours and see if it improves your load time at all.

You're welcome. :D

Other question: Anyone tried TOR on SSD yet? Should be super fast...

There was somebody complaining in General earlier today that he was still experiencing poor performance on an absurdly-expensive SSD, but, the way the post was worded, I'm not sure I would put much stock in that.

It's always a good idea to avoid mismatching hardware whenever possible. That said, it is often not strictly necessary* to match RAM, as the BIOS should* adjust clock speeds to the slowest component on any given bus.

* - This very much depends on the capability and patch level of your BIOS, so YMMV.

Hey guys. Will this computer run SWTOR? Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area. I'm not looking for top of the line, ultra high settings. I just want something that can play the game. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
