Feedback: Too Much Time Dedicated to PvP Fairly

TLDR: Pvp in TOR implores too much play time dedication. New players or players who do not have time to dedicate to TOR are greeted with harsh and unforgiving conditions. Patch 1.1.2 has given new pvp players a way to quickly gear up but time is still a requirement. The reward from pvp should be from success in an equal competition, not from controlling the account with the most play hours and characters with the best gear who can carry the whole team with their gear.

Pvp in TOR implores too much dedication. I am not talking about the skill, I am talking about the need to maintain competitive gear. The latest update doing away with importance of Champion bag relic drops and bringing in Champion commendations was a great step in pacifying the issue I speak of in this feedback.

Obtaining gear in TOR post 1.1.2 is the easiest I have ever seen in an mmo and I very much appreciate the change. Since day one of my level 50 Sentinel appearing on the pvp scene I knew gear was a necessary component to remain competitive. I have reached level 53 valor, have been finishing my pvp dailies and I recently obtained all Centurion and some Champion. Now that Champion bags drop commendations it will not be long for me and for many other players to grab their Champion gear. However I still find TOR consuming more time than it gives enjoyment.

I am currently on my last semester as a college student and I have a lot of time on my hands. I have managed to put just over 400 hours (17 days) into TOR since the first day of early access. Looking at the time, I am a bit embarrassed to say that I have put in so much. I fortunately maintain what little social life I normally have and still dedicate myself to the college Track team. Now that school has begun however, I have found myself not completing all the pvp dailies. Furthermore I have noticed a steep decline in the valor level progression and degradation of armor effectiveness on my main character, along with the almost complete worthlessness of my new 50 alt. I fear for my current and future pvp. I also sympathize the current situation of other players who are not as fortunate as I am in finding time to play.

The last two weeks of pvp have been more harsh than challenging and fun. The inability to fairly compete against a player is abysmal to my enjoyment factor. I have come across some new 50s on my main character and I step on them with more of a sigh than a smile. I however also come across more and more players who I can not do more than scratch the paint off their armor before my corpse is tossed aside. I have found myself and even other teammates ceasing combat on Ilum or in a warzone out of the sheer futility of fighting even when combatant numbers are equal. Armor is too strong of a factor in pvp combat. The players who do not have more than an hour of game time to play TOR pvp every day will never reach competitiveness in pvp while the handful of other players on both factions do. The amount of time required to obtain competitive armor while being forced to shrug off the indecency of fighting on an unequal battlefield is uncouth.

TBCH the future looks bleak for my TOR subscription. I live for the pvp in mmos and the inability to find entertainment in the area is detrimental. Gear in TOR is a very strong factor in pvp and skill follows in second but not very closely during small 1v1 or 2v2 pvp encounters in my experience. When TOR started combat was exciting, tactical and always swinging because everyone was as vulnerable as everyone else. Nowadays people are reaching battlemaster, completing their Champion sets while others such as myself are falling behind or beginning alts.

Valor 60 is not extremely far away for my main but it certainly felt out of reach for a long time. Level 53 valor requires over 24 thousand valor and each warzone can give 1 thousand valor on average. Roughly 24 games are needed to level up but I will need to level up 7 more times = 168 and that is not including the added 4 thousand valor requirement per level. Each warzone is about 12 minutes (if averaged from my experience) thus equating to 33 hours and again that is not including the added 4 thousand valor requirement per level (which is about 4 more games per valor level). Furthermore the need to open battlemaster bags rewarded from the dailies adds days instead of games to the time required to gear up. I need to play at least 33 more hours of back to back warzones that I am growing to despise more and more if I am to see my main character equalize in the battle for gear.

The pvp aspect of TOR asks for too much time from its players. People have real lives, jobs, families, sports and other hobbies. Pvp players log into TOR to play fair games of pvp for the challenge and excitement potential of player versus player combat. New players or players who do not have time to dedicate to TOR are greeted with harsh and unforgiving conditions as long time players pound them into the dust without even a sneeze. Patch 1.1.2 has given pvp players a way to quickly gear up but time to complete dailies is still a requirement.

Solution: Create a server or pvp mode where everyone begins with the highest gear layout of their choice for free. People who still want to strive for their gear and play in an unfair environment can continue on their servers while others can find the pvp game they wanted since release.

_______

I commend anybody who actually reads every sentence and every comma in this post. I hope some sympathy is recognized for the players who can not find the time to dedicate to TOR pvp. Eventually I will need some of that sympathy for I will be entering the workforce in a matter of months and will not be able to maintain gear competitiveness. In the end, if no adjustment is made to the pvp environment even though I may find myself with the highest gear before the next expansion, I will bid the battlefield farewell because an unfair pvp game is unsavory to me.

OMG No we cant have that. Please Bioware fix this asap. People should not have to spend the time playing the game to get rewards. What were you thinking.

The problem isn't time, it's how much time. Let's face it, casuals are the kind of people this game draws, more so then the Hardcore MMO hoppers who do nothing but suck the life out of MMOs with there need to fill a void in their life with a game. I'm fine with PvP dailies taking time to complete, but I shouldn't have to spend six hours a day to do TWO PvP dailies just to stay competitive.

exactly

If you got time to write that, you got time to PvP!

I do have time but as I said I only have time because I'm in college. Soon I will no longer be in college and will probably have as much time to play as "casual" gamers do; maybe 2 hours every day :(

In order to truly see what I'm getting at people may need to understand the Veil of Ignorance concept. If you were put in a room and had no idea who you were, age, gender, social status, skin color and were given a choice that would directly affect you. What would you choose? Would you choose to approve legal discrimination to later possibly find that you are of that minority after you made your decision? If I didn't have the time to put into this game to remain competitive in pvp gear then I would have dropped this game after I hit 50. I sympathize with the people who have to deal with being out-geared instead of out-skilled or out-played or w/e. The people who can not compete in gear and look to this game for the fun and fair Star Wars pvp environment are at a loss; a loss that seriously should not exist in a game trying to make people happy (or wallets bigger...)

You're right I don't have the time to get the full pvp set 2 months after release but I don't mind. What I DO mind is the craptastic pvp Daily quest bugs so that when I DO Have the friggan time to go in and get face rolled by people who play 8 hours a day, it doesn't even count when our side wins cause the quest is bugged.

FIX THAT ISHT. If I'm spending my free time PvPing, I want WHAT THE UCFK I EARN.
