Can anyone confirm if there is a difference worth paying $300+ for?

6990m will crush a 580m, but the thing is, both those cards are MOBILE gpu.

Honestly get a desktop and use your current laptop for mobile gaming.

No such thing as a gaming laptop.

OP said that their current laptop cannot play this game...

and yes technically there are "gaming laptops"

They do make laptops that are optimized for gaming

example:

Alienware (over priced yes we know)

ASUS

Sager

etc...

OK, how about Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M GPU with 1.5GB GDDR5 Video Memory in SLI Mode vs the other ones mentioned?

Looking at a Sager custom laptop now.

Idk about the pricing but i looked at sager, i liked them a lot, in the end i went for the m18x for the 18" screen and a few other reasons. But sager makes good laptops for gaming, as well as MSI, ASUS, etc.

Really consider heat build up. Both me and my girlfriend are playing on laptops, alienware and a similliar-specced hp. After an hour the hp's keyboard is getting uncomfortably hot and it is close to impossible to put on your lap for sure :p. The alienware may be overpriced but these guys now how to manage heat dissipation. A doubt assus would be much better than hp.

I'm running the game on a 2011 MacBook Pro which has a 6770m video card. The game runs really well (aside from just issues with the performance of the game itself) with max settings except for low shadows and AA off. Completely happy with the way it runs and down the line I'm going to purchase a thunderbolt ViDock and hook up an external desktop graphics card when I need the extra power. Definitely the best of both worlds for me.

Heat isn't bad at all although I do have a speck case on it which dissipates some heat. I frequently play the game on my lap for hours at a time and the temperatures stay within more than acceptable ranges.
