  1. Hi all,

Tbh this is more of an annoyed vent rather than a complaint lol, long story short, a lower level friend asked me to help him beat the WB on tattoine since for the first time since he started playing he saw one, so me an another friend happily teamed up and other lower levels in the area got involved as the group was meeting up, two level 55 sith appeared after loading, stole the boss once they saw our group forming, then somehow flagged the entire team for PVP without us doing anything and not being flagged prior to this, killed all the lower levels and myself (lf 52) then changed instance to take the boss on again.

As you could understand we were annoyed by this, so we switched instances to see if the boss would be around to try again, as our team changed to different instances we found both of the lv 55s once again each on there own instance as if they were farming it.

What i want to know, first how did they flag our entire group for pvp without our consent, and second i thought instance hopping to kill the same target repeatedly againced the games rules? if so how is it they can do it.

  2. Has to do with the server population. I beleive Harbinger is much higher than yours. Shold have included server in the post :) When the gree event does come back, hopefully the PVP area is faction vs faction rather than open. Makes for a more epic brawl when there is a team to join in on the fun.

Actually the recent update did help a little in that regard by changing the cap in some high lag areas of the game, but i agree with you while it has somewhat improved it just means instead of lag so bad i cannot move its been reduced to lag so bad i cannot win, better but still not good.

The lag issues especially on the European servers are ridiculous sometimes there so bad i cant do anything at all, i once stood waiting to interact with a vender for 15mins, a few days ago i had to wait 40 secs for the game to recognize i pressed the "m" key to view the map and often in fights my health will jump from almost full to 0 without the opponent causing that much damage within the timeframe. Before someone says "its probs just your connection" im on a 30mb like with a minimum of 4mb at all times and an average of 15-20. I think the issue is the fact that the european servers are located in the US meaning the lag time would be no different from playing on a US server, also in addition to this bioware chose to close half the EU servers (idk about others) forcing more players on to already overcrowded servers.

  3. Hi all, as the title says im a Vanguard focusing in Shield Specialist, (trying to tank) looking for some relitivly low level PVP gear, im currently level 28. The issue i have is i have no idea what im looking for so im having a hard time searching GTM since i have to define parameters or do a specific search, could someone help me find something?

While im here i was wondering if i could see a good Shield Specialist spec i wouldn't mind some advice, ive been playing since launch but never bothered with PVP until recently (never had a team to play with).

  4. If those last 3 movies where filmed by the time the episode 1-3 where filmed, at that time I may felt kind of insulted or back-stabbed. But reality is that in this year neither of the original actors are in a very nice physical condition to film the 3 movies in the timeline when Skywalker returned to Tython and restarted the Jedi Academy.

In the end, depends upon timeline of story, but I think will not be disappointed if original actors are not recast to do their original roles. But I will get very pissed-off if they don't cast them in the original roles, but give them cameos as other characters.

Luke founds the Jedi academy on Yavin 4, Tython is from SWTOR.

  5. Why not consider the legacy series, after all its still loosely based on the same characters from OT Luke even makes an appearance, though I doubt it, my bet would be they create their own story, since characters from OT, PT and KOTOR series have been done to the death, if you consider all cannon (books, comics, games, movies).

In regards to comments about the "use CGI to make the OT cast look younger", I seriously doubt it, for one it would cost a fortune, highring the original cast and another fortune for the 100s of artists and the massive amounts of manpower required, much cheaper by far to recast, also knowing Disney there going to aim it at the younger audiences, if so the younger fans are not going to care if they are recast, hell some kids won’t even see a difference, if they cast them well. Another reason would be the difficulty in doing so, in films where it’s been done in the past, a good eye can easily spot the change, it’s also never been done for any long onscreen appearance, in regards to Tron Legacy, count how much screen time Clue has with his face visible, it’s quite short.

  6. Warning Text Heavy!

Compared to previous major MMOs that ive played i see SWTOR of having the problem of being too arcade based.

Let me explain, in the TOR a player will start the game and progress by completing the same generic story / side missions over and over again while the cut-scenes and names may change the game play never does, kinda understandabull but en the end highly repetitive.

Look at SW Galaxies for an example, the game had some massive flaws, but in many ways had more content than most MMOs ever. The Crafting system in Galaxies was by far the best i have ever seen in an MMO along with the play based marketing also, i loved how the massive group quests (FPs) did not reward the player with the best armor they can get but gave the craters the ability to make them to sell to others, i loved how an items value was based on how long it took to make and how good the resources were that went into it.

In Galaxies to get the best armor or the best ship / droids / weapons ect, a player had to first unlock the schematic, then harvest the base resources to create more complicated components that eventually combined to create the overall item, the resources that went into these components ultimately defined how were the end product was.

Many of the craters would spend mounts or even years real time creating these goods and in return could sell them for credits and earn experience in the process as an alternative to questing if the individual chose to, this allowed for more customization options and an entire new aspect of game-play.

However crafting in the modern MMO is reduced to his most basic form and ultimately not something a player enjoys doing, hell in TOR crafting means watching your companions make stuff for you. While i relay do enjoy SWTOR at times it doesn't change the fact that the game really only has two key things going for it, the Star Wars IP and the fact that all quests are given to you in semi interactive plot heavy cut-scenes take both of those factors away and the game is a really basic arcade based MMO, Other game features also that Galaxies had such as the Bounty Hunter system where players could place a "bounty" on other players that needlessly killed them for in-game credits.

I would say my Games Design tutor explained this best "You can polish a turd as much as you like but it wont change the fact that its still a turd." I dont think that TOR is a bad game in the slightest but i do think it is exceptional simple for an MMO or an RPG for that matter, and without rebuilding some of the games defining factors this will never change.

  7. Exactly. I'd like to now what games you are referring to, in order to educate myself, but I agree with your second paragraph. I don't think this concept is a "game killer", there are several success stories. I do believe that, like armor caps and leveled items, it would need to be strictly regulated and all handled by Bioware.

Star Trek Online implemented the trade real life cash for criptic points, and then for in game dilithium that can be traded for credits, now the player market is unusable for high end goods for those that cannot afford to pay.

    -

A web based game called Space Trek introduced a buy credits system allowing people who pay, to buy stronger and better ships, possess more ships than those playing for free allowing these individuals complete control over the game since completely obliterating players for no reason is not violating the games rules.

    -

There is two of the "buy credits" systems ive seen that harm games, the second far worse than the first.

  8. Ive seen several games follow the "buy credits" path and each time the game only becomes playable for those with the deep pockets making those that cannot afford to spend a fortune on a game unable to compete and eventually quit, not exactly a clever business model for subscription based games.

Free to play however this system should be introduced so long as its strictly controllable to stop the rich from always dominating the poor, this could be done by capping items max sell prices to stop people abusing the system and of course by creating a free but time consuming method of accessing the same goods, say the same gear you can pay for can also be gained randomly in flashpoints.

  9. Ive never had any problems with server queues since beta until now i kinda think its ridiculous that the servers were closed because there were too few players now after the merger all English euro servers are full or at the very least heavy.

At first it seemed decent, however after a few hours i realised that most of the open area quest were so difficult to complete because there were too many players trying to do the same quests at the same time. Fleet bases are also very unstable in peek hours, im not saying the idea is bad just as always none americans got the short end of the stick, we dont even have a PVP server any-more.

  10. I love that ive been playing since launch, that i cancelled my subscription for a few months because i lost my job and the day after i come back without warning i was moved to another server and am forced to rename 3 of my characters.

One positive thing i will say about this patch is that the lag issues i used to have in crowded places have been completely resolved.

  11. Before we give you strategies, what is your advanced class (sorc or assassin) and are you dps, heal, or tank spec'ed?

that was all mentioned lol but its fine now, almost immediately after i posted the topic someone contacted me in-game and helped me kill her, thanks for the reply though.

  12. Hi all,

Ive been trying this for over a day now and failing every time, short of heroics (mainly because almost no one is willing to group) ive finished about 99% of all side quests and im still only level 31, my character is a Assassin with a focus on Deception.

Ive read in previous topics that some individuals have managed to stop her from casting area abilities all together however my force and cool-downs only allow me to block every other, Khems stance is focused on DPS im using Khems Taunt, Guard and interrupts, at most i have been able to get her is just past 2/3 health then Khem dies she heals and i die very quickly afterwords, i have 3 moddable items equipped all with there highest items included, my armour is the highest i could find and my weapon is maxed to my level, Khem is wearing his latest gear also, nothing i do seems to work, as you could imagine im getting very frustrated with this, and as usual calls for help in-game go unanswered.

Since everyone else i know who did play the game has quit, and chat messages are ignored i cannot find anyone willing to help.

If anyone has any idea on how i can get past this point i would be very grateful

    Thanks

  13. Funny, my PC can run every other game i have ever played on it on high settings. But it cant run this on low? And are you seriously suggesting I buy a new PC for SWTOR?

That can also be an problem with your connection, but i do know what you mean, i can play most things on max specs np yet randomly SWTOR runs very slow at times ive never been able to find out why, its like one moment the games demanding twice its normal power to run, more offten than not i play on full spec with 1768x992 rez with no problems, but when i play at times were the servers busy the game seems to drain more from my processor and ram.

    EDIT - Sry for DP

  14. On the high res graphics wasn't it also noted that it would be to huge of a strain on thier servers because of all the extra rendering and thats why the swapped to a unipoly something or others.

On topic YES they listen and YES that is why the game will not fail till it becomes to big and they really don't care anymore, just like that game that has 10mil subs right now.

Rendering tends to be dome client side, meaning on the players computer, the server simply handels scripts more often than not, this methord is common because the only thing the server is realy doing is linking everyone, and recording there progress, the new cloud systems are those that render for players to allow things like Onlive, all that device does is connect to the internet and stream content from servers in real time allowing you lag free gaming without the need for a console.

  15. Check your level. Level seems to have the biggest effect on this feeling.

My problem is that unless you do EVERY heroic mission an run flashpoints MULTIPLE times, you tend to run out of missions to do after awhile, but your level hasn't quite caught up. Exploring merely for the XP is boring and not particularly productive, and the Bonus series can be buggy or unbalanced (Balmorra side quest to the balance quest has a CHAMPION mob, and the normal quest bugs out).

Its hard to scrounge up enough XP to stay ahead of the mobs, but character level is important if you don't want to be crushed by mobs on the next planet, even more important than gear I think (which is the other thing you should check, both you and your companion).

Im having this exact problem, the only quests i have left to do, kill my toon whenever i try, i spent hundreds of thousands of credits repairing armor, buying stims/medi packs and still failing im atualy a level above my side quests but still cannot survive them, im a marauder btw so... year lol.

  16. IF the UI Customization really is just the ability to scale and move around a few things and nothing else, then please don't bother with it at all. That's just absolutely useless, work on allowing addons for the UI and let people who know what the hell they're doing do it for you, you obviously don't .

Yea i kinda agree, im constantly finding i dont have enough slots to easily arrange my skills in a decent order, why cant i extend that bottom skill bar to support 3 or 4 rows?, the side bars are ok but people like me with 26" screens actually have to wait a few secs before they can move there mouse to get close to those skills, basically wasting precious time.

  17. I totally agree, but i dont expect we will ever see the likes of another jump to light-speed, hell Star Trek Online isent as advanced as that expansion pack was and its a fully fledged space mmo lol.

I would recommend, since bioware are going down the tunnel shooter setup, that they look into the rouge squadron series, battle like that combined with a little free-roaming ability in space and minor customization would realy improve on whats already established.

  18. Honestly if Republic got Wookies I think that would be a big reason a lot of people would decide to go Republic...especially if they allowed you to be a Jedi one. (Even tho I hate the idea of a wookie Jedi...you gotta admit, a lot of people would love it)

In Star wars Galaxies i met entire guilds comprised of almost nothing but wookie jedis lol, a friend of mine ones one.

Im not sure what exactly your referring to when you say "Its about the same", but you might be on one of the very few balanced servers if your not noticing much of a difference. Republic is outnumbered anywhere from 2-1 up to 7-1 by imperials. My server sits somewhere between 2 and 3, and the ability to get groups is vastly hindered compared to that of the sith.

As soon as i realized this i started playing my republic toons more, but if players want to go for game authenticity it kinda works since in the games story the republic is outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1.

  19. Im a guy, i have 3 female toons and 5 male toons, i prefer balance as often as i can in games, every other run though of a game with gender options i always switch, one reason to see the differences you never know what jokes ect your missing out on, second reason, i get very bored stairing at the same character over and over again, i know 3-5 aint exactly even but i do get a little sick of the penalization i get from friends when i meet up with em in an mmo with a female toon.

I know (or rather knew when i was still in uni) two girls that were addicted to WoW, i only know one playing TOR but then again i only know 3 other people playing it, i don't care personal what gender or role anyone chooses to play as, i only get weird out when guys pretend to be girls and reverse, don't relay know why, but i never saw a reason to hide my identity i do see why they want to.

I have to admit though when im playing games like CoD i naturally assume everyone im playing with is a guy mainly because its the type of game that more often than not attracts the male audience, star wars does have a largely male fan group but that dosent mean there arnt also girls who are interested in the series, my sisters evidence of that, she actually introduced me to sci-fi when we were kids, now im kinda a sci-fi nut (btw by sci-fi im referencing the fictional technology, while hyper-drives and light-sabers may one day exist as of now there is no evidence one ever could hence fiction).

  20. Im currently playing a sith warrior and im on one of the last missions in act 2, the over all story is actually very good, but the pace it is shown is very slow, after getting a single sentence towards the story i have to then spend over a day leveling to continue every single time, the missions jumped from level 36 to level 40 in 10mins game time, that alone makes it difficult to get into the story, consent interruptions, i understand this is an mmo and ive experienced many, normal eatch story missions give you hints almost making the plot a guessing game untill the finial mission, so far everything in the story has been fairly predictable, allowing me to guess most of the plot when im levels below, act 1 was insanely predictable the only thing i dident guess was the small details.

I know bioware are capable of doing better, ive seen it in most of there previous games, then again there always future content you never know with less rush to release it may be a great improvement.
