  1. 1: Lightwhips: Hell no. Keep stuff like that out of the game please. 2: Casinos: Agreed, social mini-games like Pazaak, Sabacc, etc. are a much needed addition. While combat is fine, there need to be non-combat activities in the game. 3: Legacy: It's supposedly coming in March, though we don't know many details yet.
  2. WoW had largely standard fantasy races (humans, elves, gnomes, dwarves, orcs, trolls, goblins) with the Tauren, Drenai, Worgen and the horrible looking undead thrown in to attempt to spice things up. I wouldn't call that overly creative either. As for weapons/armor, most of them look at least functional in SWTOR, the same can't be said about most WoW gear. WoW and other fantasy MMORPGs always take things too far... swords that would be impossible to wield even as a twohanded weapon, armor with oversized spiked pauldrons (shoulder pads) that would make fighting impossible, etc. Sorry, but I prefer my equipment to look believable rather than over the top.
  3. The problem here is in the bolded part... there are no actual right or wrong features, it all depends on opinions and preferences. Personally, I prefer the story aspect over your proclaimed "MMO features", it was the one thing I really missed in previous MMORPGs. Does it make SWTOR a perfect game? Definitely not, I'd love to have more (open) exploration and actually useful social hubs (e.g. SWG cantinas pre-CU/NGE) but I can take the game for what it is. Incentives for grouping are already in the game, if people don't group then it is because they don't want to. Short of forced grouping like in the early days of MMORPGs there's nothing you can do and I'm sure we don't want to go back to those days.
  4. This. Goofy stuff like lightwhips are about the last things we need in SWTOR. New idle animations based on your selected form (Shii-Cho, Shien, Ataru, etc.) and allowing for a reverse grip stance would offer enough visual variety for Jedi without resorting to ridiculous stuff.
  5. I play my own gunslinger during world quests exclusively with a single pistol, as I prefer the animation to the dual-wielding animations, and so far I've had next to no problems. For heroics/flashpoints, I'll switch to dual-wield simply because it's expected. As for "adding nothing"... that is a matter of taste, for me it adds a lot due to having a look/animation I like and that is what matters to me. I don't care about numbers, I'll take style over substance any day. I see no reason why the Sentinel/Marauder could not work like that as well.
  6. I agree with the OP, the weapon restrictions on abilities are incredibly annoying. My main issue is the "Requires two lightsabers" requirement on the Jedi Sentinel (and probably Sith Marauder as well) when, for example, Gunslingers can use most abilities with either one or two blaster pistols. While I understand that in some cases it may require new animations, this isn't the case for all abilities.
  7. Sorry, but I don't see any reason why players who aren't interested in PvP at all should be punished for a PvP exploit. Removing whatever currency/gear they exploited, fine... I'm all for that. But having a complete server rollback? No.
  8. Untrue, it doesn't help advanced classes that have only one possible role to fulfill ( Gunslinger, Sentinel, their imp. counterparts) and will only make it even harder for people who don't want to tank or heal to get into groups.
  9. You can get a classic movie-style Jedi robe (fully moddable except for augments) even without touching a heroic quest:
  10. You're probably refering to the Temple Watchman's Vest/Aspiring Knights Vest (medium armor, the latter being orange quality). I'm not sure whether the hood is animated/deformed by your movement/combat animations but will check that once I manage to log into the game. If the hood on this piece is a seperate piece as well, it could (and should) be used as a base for lowered hoods. Edit: The hood on this chestpiece is indeed static and not animated, though I'm not sure whether a static hood will work on the chestpieces with attached capes (never used one of them myself, so no idea how badly clipping issues could be due to the cape animation).
  11. A "simple" toggle to completely remove the hood wouldn't probably be an issue. What I suspect they want, is having the hood actually displayed as hanging down your back and that may cause issues as the hood seems to be a seperate piece replacing the character's hair (on some robes a slight gap is noticable between the robe and the hood from certain angles). This would probably require a set of new animations, which may be the issue here. Edit; It might have been a better solution to have the hoods as actual headgear from the start, rather than having them as part of the chestpiece.
  12. Let's take the Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior as an example: One AC wears medium armor and is forced to dual-wield, the other wears heavy armor and can't dual-wield. Having dual ACs would require you to have appropriate gear for both, which would make maintaining gear a nightmare. If you then add dual-spec for each of them, matters become even worse. Hardly something that would increase the enjoyment of the game for most people.
  13. Level 46 Vigilance Guardian: I used Kira (90%) and T7 (10%) until I got Doc, afterwards it changed to Doc (85%), Kira (10%) and T7 (5%). Kira and T7 see the most use during normal world missions, for difficult fights I'll always switch to Doc.
  14. Even a non-forceuser can use a lightsaber in Star Wars (Han Solo in "The Empire strikes back" for example). However, to use it in combat effectively, it requires a lot of training and a Jedi's way of combat is enhanced by the Force. It is also considered dangerous to use if untrained, as the risk of self-dismemberment is high for those not trained in the weapon's use.
  15. Having the sidequests without VO would totally ruin the atmosphere, you can easily see that in Age of Conan (Level 1-20 is fully voiced, afterwards it's only the main quest and a tiny selection of other quests). Quite frankly, I prefer what you call "dinosaur age gameplay" to the "innovations" you see in some games like DCUO (arcade-style combat).
  16. Took me about 9 or 10 tries, my first attempts were at level 31 (7 tries) and the final ones at 33 (Vigilance Guardian). The fight is incredibly annoying in my opinion due to the extremely low error margin, something I don't mind in flashpoints at all but for story quests it should be slightly easier.
  17. While I did die a couple of times, I found him a lot easier to defeat than Valis or the overgrown beetle later on (Vigilance Guardian using Kira as a companion). Interrupts and consumables (medpacks/stims) are important, as is appropriate gear (obviously). As the OP has already overleveled him, I'd assume it's either a gear issue (companion or player gear) or he's not using Force Stasis/Force Kick/Force Push to interrupt Praven's powerful attacks.
  18. As a Jedi Knight at least it's not an issue fortunately. You can get traditional Jedi robes from several quests/questlines on Coruscant and as they're orange grade items, they are moddable. Nonetheless I agree with the OP, an appearance tab is definitely needed. I seriously dread leveling my Smuggler due to the ugly armor they get later on and it's not much better for Troopers.
  19. The easiest way to deal with it... /ignore <insert random idiotic name>, that way I see their names once and never again. Personally I'd prefer a solution like some other MMORPG has (I think it's Champions but not sure), first /ignore just ignores the player's chat, ignoring the same player twice renders him invisible to you. The perfect solution in my opinion.
  20. After 1 week of early access my main char is level 27, close to 28 now. While I wouldn't mind a slightly lower leveling speed, I don't want another EverQuest ever again. Leveling speed seems to slow down around the mid to late twenties and there's always the option of exploring the planets, hunting for datacrons/lore objects/etc to slow down your personal leveling speed.
  21. Body type 2 looks ok in the game, I agree that the remaining 3 models look ridiculous though. The "cartoony" look will make the graphics still look acceptable in a few years from now, something that simply isn't possible with "realistic" graphics. You can solo perfectly well in SWTOR, you just won't be seeing every bit of content without grouping. Both group and solo playstyles are fully supported by the game's design. I can't comment on the endgame yet, my main char just hit level 27. Yes, some quests (sidequests & bonus missions mainly) are repetitive and somewhat grindy. The cutscenes do help alot to make this easier to bear, at least the first time around. I'm level 20 already and Ive only been playing about 20 hours total maybe? I never skip cutscenes though, and I dont grind. You can see the time you've spent on a character by typing /played as in most MMORPGs. Leveling pace will slow down and of course there are always options like exploring, it doesn't have to be rushing from mission to mission. As stated previously, I can't comment on endgame content. Fortunately my endgame activities are available from level 1 onwards (RP and alting), so it's no issue for me anyway.
