  1. I think we should all agree that it did indeed need tons of nerfing but to be a dust object I don't really think so, like my previous posts I'd like to see something like this atleast, to balance everything

    0.1% Walker

    5% Cert

    10% Purple junk

    25% Green junk

    50% Blue junk

    50% Rep item

    rofl

Do you know the definition of balance. That doesn't even add up to 100%, that's like 140% chance to drop something and you haven't even calculated the extra coin or when you lose.

  2. This I can understand. People screaming it killed the economy were just being greedy imo. Other than a social thing this was a monumental mistake. It gave people who wanted everything for nothing just that and others a perfect farm for mats, etc. No matter what they did past that point they were utterly screwed because they will NEVER, ever please the people playing this game. They could fix every single issue tomorrow and still people will be screaming how the game is unplayable.

My opinion yes but gained from reading tons of threads on these forums over the last week in a attempt for comparison.

TBH, there were more people saying it killed crew missions than the economy. It would be hard to justify a nerf of this magnitude by saying it was the economy only. If all it did was lower the cost of good they might have actually not nerfed it that bad (that appeared to be one of their objectives after all since they thought mats were too rare). However making it so the slot machine was the only viable option (over crew skills) to farm mats is never going to stay in game.

If the devs only released the slot with rep items and a rare drop of cartel certificate, thing would have still be very popular. I mean cartel certificates are a rare drop in packs, I had only amassed 30 before the slot machine. It would take over a million credits in packs on the GTN to get a cartel certificate. So even with its nerfed version the drop rate is not unreasonable. It just seems that way because the drop rate was set to God Mode initially. It was their mistake to not properly test this thing because a monkey could see how bad this was for crew skills. So the complaints should be aimed at their quality control process not at bringing back something that was unbalanced.

  3. My guess is the main objective of the slot machine was to give rep. That it does perfectly. So as you say it is worthless once you attain max rep (which is done rather quickly) but everyone will always play the slots for a set amount of time to attain max rep. Saying no one uses it, that's saying everyone has max rep which I know is not true. Amazingly some of my guild members had yet to even use it as of this week.

I think it's pretty obvious this is all they want it to do now. They experimented with the idea of it being a way to introduce more grade 11 mats and found it caused more damage than anticipated. My guess is whatever they decide to change it won't be for the current slot machine it will be for the next one. Gotta have a reason to make you purchase after all.

  4. did you level your toons only to craft? why bother to play the game if that is the only thing you are going to do?

I know it's a shock but some people might actually like to play the game different from you. But to answer your question, no not just to craft. It was one of many reasons including going through ALL the storylines for all characters, unlocking all the legacy perks, unlocking all companions for the stat boost, and I can go on and on. Crafting, yes that is one reason but it wasn't the only.

  5. you are outright telling a lie when you claim that drop rate. you dont actually play the game.you are no different from the gold sellers scamming the chests on makeb. they need to bring crew skills in line with the rest of the game and make you have to be online to do it. I cant send my companions to do a flashpoint can I?

    lol

I had three slot machines surrounding me. The only thing slowing me down was the global cooldown that is about 1-2 seconds. So I had about 35 plays every min on the slot machine. No joke, got about 3 purple mats per min and the numbers actually BACK ME UP on that. I don't have to guess, I over 1.5k in purple mats before I stopped counting and just started crafting.

I'm not going to say you are a liar, you are just ignorant of the facts. It's ok, everyone defending the slot machine with those drop rates was just fooling themselves thinking it was going to stay in game. I know it's hard to have an easy button taken away from you but seriously, get over it.

And hey you want to change it so crew missions can only be run and finished if you are logged on, becareful what you wish for. You think the prices are bad now, they'll jump 10 fold. I'm all for it, do it. You think I care? I'd love more time to run ops and flashpoints and dailies. Then I can sell my augments for a mill a piece. And you think I'm exaggerating, if the devs are saying the mats before the slot machine were too rare, you are basically removing 90% of my drops from crew missions with a change like that which would be the case for most of the gathers/crafters. So again, get the devs to do it. Either way I'll still sell my wares for the going rate which I can assure would make your jaw drop the moment something like that is implemented.

  6. Using a slot machine to get mats means you can't do anything else but use the slot machine. Using Crew Skills to get mats means you can do anything else you like, including log off the game.

This is the biggest load of....,...I could win 10x more mats in 10 mins of clicking the slot than I could in loading missions on all 8 toons of mine which btw took over 30 mins to set up. You obviously are confused because NOONE had to stay clicking the slots for more than 10 mins unless they wanted to. Greed was the only thing keeping them there clicking. So please stop with the "bu bu but I had to stay there clicking and winning more and more.......don't you feel sorry for me because the drop rate is so good I can't do dailies or run ops".

  7. What exactly "ruined" your crew skills?

Did they stop working when the slot machine was added?

According to the devs basically yes, why else would you see a drastic drop in missions run? Heck the time it takes to cycle through the missions getting the right one (I'm talking about clicking it) you could have already won several jawa junk. We are not even talking the cost of the mission being riculously overpriced either. So yeah the crew skills were working for those with an IQ of Forest Gump.

  8. I think that also requires you have a ton of time on your hands, especially to make the more expensive items (like purple augments) in sufficient quantities for many alts.

Not everyone can sit in front of the GTN while doing something on a second screen, and logging in and out of various characters for hours a day. That is what is currently required "get your crew skills started," even if you have the appropriate ones at 500.

At least you admit the hard work involved in crafting. Over the past two weeks I've read nothing but crafters sale overpriced stuff for doing nothing but pressing a button. If it was soooo easy people would be doing it themselves. Setting up a good crafting setup takes a ton of time and credits.

I do understand your point that they wanted to make grade 11 materials more available, because they plainly said it. However after looking at the results they were left with a dilemma, leave the slot machine as a good source to acquire materials BUT they would need to change crew skills enough so it was still a more viable choice over the slot machine considering the time/credit investment doing through crew skills. They opted for the easy fix, nerf the slot machine completely and keep crew skills the same. No coding or thinking required.

  9. TL;DR (Because I can't comprehension basic English and/or have the attention-span of a gnat): COMMUNICATE AND ADDRESS CUSTOMER ISSUES DON'T DISREGARD PEOPLE AS THE "VOCAL MINORITY"

When the NGE hit the Public Test Server there was an OUTRAGE from the Star Wars Galaxies Players (Star Wars Fans) over pretty much the entire game changes that were coming within a few short weeks.

Many took to the forums to complain (MANY is an understatement) but what did wind up happening is, one bad post after another by SOE added fuel to the fire. At one point the Community Relations staff called all those that were complaining about the NGE the "Vocal Minority" which added more flames to that already blazing inferno.

So, the reaction to those new threads? Banning posting privileges and deleting threads, which, yes, resulted in yet more threads and more anger...

The overall end result when the NGE went live... Subscribers left, en mass. The "Vocal Minority" took their money and took to Amazon, and every other online seller and posted 1-star reviews of the game making any chance of new people joining almost impossible...

Now, me, as a Star Wars fan, stayed... I was there prior to this game being launched, flying my Advanced X-Wing over the trees of Endor... I will most likely stay with this game until it, too shuts down.

BUT, I will point out that something as simple as this Slot Machine case can cause a cascade of bad for all parties... Yes, I'm pissed that it was removed from the game (Look, say what you want, it is not the same item). Non-communication or arrogant communication by BioWare is NOT what is needed here. This issue needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

I believe the outrage from the NGE in galaxies is they didn't announce ANY of the changes until after people purchased the expansion. It was really wrong of them to not warn people since the game was completely changed with the NGE, I should know I had a fully leveled Jedi (unlocked before they nerfed it) and it was pretty bad. It's nothing compared to a slot machine, I mean come on. The only reason people are so upset is because once you get a taste of the good life, it's soooooo hard to go back.

  10. Uh huh.

My solution for crafters charging to much was to (wait for it) learn how to craft and MAKE IT MYSELF. Problem solved.

What's your excuse? Did you unbind the "N" key and couldn't figure out how to open the crew skills panel?

^^^This right here. People keep saying how bad crafters are and how mad they are at the prices.....yet no one gets off their duff and make it themselves. That's exactly what I did. I was tired of paying prices when I know I could get it 1/4 of the cost if I made it myself. So I decided to level a couple toons. Pretty soon it was so awesome I ended up with 8 toons fully leveled (thanks 12X exp....it made it possible to level from 40-55 on 5 of the 8 toons).

So two options, buy it from people who invested the time or make it yourself using crew missions..........what everyone complaining appears to want is an EASY BUTTON. That's what the slot machine was.....I could watch a movie and "play" the slots getting more mats than I ever did. Sorry the EASY BUTTON was nerfed but I am hopeful they can get something on their that is appealing once you get max rep.

  11. You apparently missed the fact that I had 300 JJ stockpiled before the slot machine from conquests. Also missed the fact that I am in fact a crafter, with many alts who are just crafting alts. And again missed that I was one calling for a minor nerf on the Jawa Junk by decreasing it, and increasing the return on the Scavenged Scrap. Certs are debatable but even if they cut the rate in half (which damn near everyone on this forum thinks was ok) that would have been fine in my eyes. I didn't see a problem with the original drop on them, some did, but even halving the original rate is acceptable to the vast majority out there.

It doesn't take weeks, it also doesn't take millions of credits to level up crafting skills. The only part that takes weeks is leveling up the character so you can finish chapter 2.

But it does take millions. The time spent leveling each toon to max level to get max companions on missions takes a LOT of time and money because again, you need to get max affection for each companion, upgrade the legacy crafting, and pay for all the crafting skills/missions while leveling each crew mission. Oh and you have to also count the time spent NOT doing dailies or other things that would have generated cash while you were doing these things.

Trust me, I made no money as I was leveling all these toons. It wasn't until I was finished that I really saw all the work pay off with being able to cycle through 8 toons. So this is why I laughed at people saying it wasn't a big deal with the slot machine giving uber returns compared to missions. I worked harder running missions and cycling through all of them and still didn't sniff a tenth of what I got in the same time on the slot machine.

  12. I think at first the slot machine was mainly created for attaining reputation but they did mention they were concerned over how scarce the grade 11 mats were with a couple months into the patch. So based on that comment by Eric, I'm assuming at the last moment they threw in the mats. The certs and reputation appears to be by design while the mats were there to "fix" the problem they thought the game had.....unfortunately no one tests these things and we got what we got.
  13. After reading all the posts that said the market prices crashed and the whole market was ruined. Im looking through the items atm on the GTN and the prices i see are beyond ridicules high even worse then before the slot machine came out, yet there are stacks and stacks and stacks of them. Its just stupid, cant even make stuff for your main toon, let alone alts and companions. It is cheaper to just skill up your own crew skills and do the missions, which is what i finally had to do, screw the greedy blanks lol.

Slot machine doesn't exist, prices went up almost immediately. I was down to 60k for relics......it's now selling 150-180k again. Probably can go higher in another week when the rest of the supply from jawa is used up. The crew missions are very time consuming to get mats. If everyone ran their own missions prices wouldn't be as high but people would rather not have to invest in leveling the crew mission, getting max affection, and buying the legacy crafting. All that takes time and an investment in money. Most would just rather buy it once and be done with it.

  14. The problem with being "self sufficient" is that it's slow as hell.

Sure, you can run your own crew missions, but you'd need at least 5-10 alts that do nothing but run crew missions to get the purple mats at any decent rate.

And the mats sellers know this.

We NEED the mats sellers because crafting will be a very slow and stagnant affair without them.

And that's why they know they can gouge the prices for the rare mats.

Who would have thought.......a job no one wants to do but everyone needs the job to be done and the person gets paid through the roof to do it. It's funny when I go get my car looked at and I end up with $500 in charges and more than half of that is labor (2 hours of work). If I don't like the prices I could always learn to fix my car but that would require an investment in time. Most don't want to do that and just take the car in and swallow the $100 per hour fee. This is how society works, if the majority of people don't want to do something but need that service, prepare to pay through the roof for it.

  15. ........

you do realize that 186 is the gear you buy with basic coms? you know those basic coms you get for doing dailies, or pretty much any solo content under max level nowadays since they rolled planetary coms into basics?

so you can literally gear an alt in 186 gear, if you so wanted, by doing nothing but low level quests?

186 artifact IS starter gear. and yes, basic coms DO imply starter gear, they did even before planetary commendations being rolled into them.

green is not starter gear. green is the step you take towards actual starter gear.

186 crafted mods > 186 Basic Com gear

You get better stats if you use the crafted mods. 186 gear is required for end game content. So to start end game content you need 186 gear, I don't think that means the same thing as it being starter gear. Starter gear is the crap they give you when you reach level 10. Now I guess you could say if you are starting end game content then I suppose this is starter gear for that.

  16. Eric is only the community team they have no say in what or how anything gets changed. Finger point at the devs only because they are the ones to blame with the terrible metric system.

3.0 has been a horrible expansion and so has the current patch releases but Eric has nothing to do with any of it he just gets told to say this and that so he does and he can relay information back to the devs for the community.

Eric is the bullet proof vest and is there to take the hits. Why people want him fired is beyond me......what, do they think the next community leader is going to stand up to the devs telling them "No, we are not going to do that because people on the forum will be upset".

  17. Right here:

I accept some changes were being considered, but as implemented they have made the Slot Machine worthless unless you want to build reputation with the cartel market vendors. And as the Cartel Certificates have also been slashed that rep is next to useless now as well.

Actually if you buy packs and get cartel certificates from there, the rep is not useless. I only started playing about 7 months ago, never had the chance to get rep from there and the packs on the GTN were scarce and very expensive. The rep items from this pack have been coveted for a while. Of course now everyone will have a command chair but as long as I get mine!

  18. The complaint was about the Jawa Junk, the purple stuff for rare mats. People didn't complain about the rest of the items. Musco even specifically mentioned the Jawa Junk.

What happened between addressing the JJ issue and rendering the whole thing worthless once you maxed out rep, we will never know I guess....

I have an idea, they know exactly what people won over the week. Personally I have over 450 certs, that's just me alone. Imagine people who put a BOT on that thing? I only did it every night for an hour or two. The fact they neutered the thing means they did not expect people to play it so much? Honestly Im sticking with the dev who thought up the drop rates on everything did so while playing candy crush on the toilet .
