  1. Would that be oppossed to charging you every month with no content updates, lay-offs, server mergers and little to no communication? You also tossed out a few numbers there, any sources for that?
  2. There are some things that can stem that zerg somewhat... remove it completely? No... Three factions, soft caps perhaps? I'm not a game developer, i don't have all the answers, but it worked pretty well in DAoC. Sadly, new MMOs only follow the path laid out by a different MMO, so we havent seen if that (rvr) can be evolved into something even more.
  3. And its philosophies like this that we keep getting "new" MMOs where they say things such as "So far very few people have seen, or know much about the stunning Open World PVP on Ilum; when you get to the high levels prepare to be blown away!". And we get epic changes in our PvP like defend the three turrets of Aldaraan, from defend the five nodes of Arathi Basin.... wonderful.
  4. Not at all.. I'm not saying take away story and fluff from PvE, I'm saying add it to PvP.. Just because the only thing developers can muster these days with PvP is another 8v8 defend the node/door, does not make it the pinnacle of all that is PvP.. In UO we had player towns that we defended, role play was huge then. In DAoC, we had Realm Pride, people would drop everything they were doing to defend the relics.. Just as two small examples. These days the ignorant think you make a room, toss 8 people in there, and everyones happy, its pretty damn sad.
  5. As opposed to killing bosses in PvE, just hoping your next epic drops? I see... How many places you need for that exactly?
  6. I used to ROLE PLAY a murderer in UO, and a "White Knight" in Neverwinter Nights in '94 defending people on the "triple" from the drow guild.. Rutheless bunch they were... PvP has been in MMOs since the beggining. /shrug
  7. Sounds like a design/development problem.. A little story and/or fluff could go a long way. I mean, how much can you change PvE..? Get tank, get healer, kill boss... Save princess... PvP you can have quite a bit of possibilities. Realm pride, faction buffs, defending keeps/bases.. player towns that need defending... all in a nutshell of course....
  8. Yea.. but... they have some of the most experienced pvp developers in the world on this team....
  9. When you make a game centered around gear, you attracked people who like to chase gear. Good luck with your crusade.
  10. Well, they did double the amount of content PvPers have by sticking a "ranked" in there. "Some of the most experienced PvP developers in the world"
  11. In a sense, it is on topic... For me, as i stated, i am going to GW2 this month. I could play both, especially considering that the other is F2P. However, i cancelled my TOR account. Why? Because i haven't a clue what these guys are thinking for the future. They take these softball questions, and give half-hearted answers. Give me a reason to keep my sub... please? Whats up with Ilum? Whats up with the new planet, anything unique? Is this new companion any different than a dps/healer/tank that i already have? How about that new super dee duper space game? --crickets-- are you going to add anything at all to your endgame that makes it stand out? Send me an email when you have a direction, or, are at least willing to share what it is. Theres too many games out there to remain silent. This isn't the 90s when i had one or two choices of MMOs to play.
  12. I don't know, i don't fancy myself a game "developer". Give me 300/400/ or whatever ungodly million these knuckleheads spend these days, and i doubt i could do much worse than what i have seen lately. Someone needs to tell these investors thats it become quite clear, if you can't come up with something even slightly original, don't bother wasting your time and money (or "mine"). How much more of this recycled crap we going to have wade through, before someone has the nads to think even slightly outside the box? My sub (convieniantly) ends on the 25th. I'll try GW2, just because they are attempting to bring (faction) server pride back to pvp, as opposed to pvping for a new piece of clothing. Not everything in an MMO needs to be about your next epic lewtZ!1!! (personal opinion), and thats a start for me.
  13. Maybe they should stop giving us the same endgame then?
  14. From the looks of the server mergers, its not quite adequate enough Or, perhaps people require a bit more than just, adequate? /shrug
  15. For me, the highs of RvR type pvp are much higher than that of another guard the the node/door/turrett. Defending a keep against superior numbers, with the opportunity to reward my faction, is a lot more exciting than trying to score a huttball for a new pair of shoes. Using strategies in open world pvp is more fun than rush right, stealth left. Its just personal preferance. Yes, what you describes does happen, and some folks will bail at the first sight of superior numbers. I just find it more fun, at least it was when we fought for our faction, as opposed to the next piece of gear we need.
  16. Thats a cop out. Its their forums, if they don't like the way the "savages" are acting, do something about it. Don't stick your head in the sand, especially when your game is having pretty significant server mergers, lay-offs, and said communication problems. Folks say they see the same people trolling these forums every day. If thats the case, they should be banned, temporarily or permanantly.
  17. You're probably right.. However, there are some folks such as myself, who are on the fence about this game. And when i look at the interaction between the developers/ community managers, and its player base, i sometimes wonder how much effort is being put forth on their end. Especially if they don't have the decency to "communicate" with us. "Good for them"
  18. Geez, with all this hootin and hollerin about the end of the world/this game is dying, I would think they are well under 400k subs. If they are at, as most seem predict here, a quick glance looks like about 700k subs? I don't think thats too bad at all. Yea, everyone, including (especially?) EA/Bio thought this game was the second coming but if they have as many as people here seem to be guessing, i would say they are doing ok. Take WoW out of the equation, and whats the average subs across the board for P2P MMOs? My guess would have been 350k at max from reading these and other doom and gloom boards, but what do i know
  19. Oh I can be quite patient... the question is, can EA be just as patient with my subcription fee, before they start merging servers, laying off help, or changing their subscription plan??
  20. I still don't buy it... and thats not the only ball they dropped. It seems to be a recuring theme.
  21. Yes, its much more productive to allow them spill bile and hate about your game on your own forums, while you are hiding in a corner, refusing to speak to the playerbase...
  22. Then have the nads to ban them from the forums.Temporary or permanantly. Its Biowares game, and Biowares forums. If this "99%" keep coming here and spewing "bile and hate" get rid of them. Don't punish your other customers by hiding your head in the sand. Sorry, I don't buy your reason at all.
  23. Then the company might ask themselves, "Why are so many dweebs tossing grenades in our lobby?"
  24. So they made an online game, and they are afraid to post on their own message boards... online? yeesh, its worse than i thought. Its been like that since the days of UO. People are critical, especially when they don't get exactly what they were told they would. /shrug
  25. As opposed to saying nothing and expecting us to keep paying? It would be a start I suppose. I don't think anyone will deny this game is losing subs pretty quickly. Wouldn't you as a developer want to keep the lines of communication open? Give the folks out there paying your salary a reason to look at the game and see at least a commitment, some positive reinforcement that the game is still moving forward? The parallels between what i see here, and what i saw with Warhammer are a bit shocking, to say the least. There was a point after Land of the Dead was released, where i thought, these guys have just given up, no communication at all, poor, buggy patches, lay-offs, server mergers... amongst other things i cancelled shortly thereafter. Looking back...They had given up. bleh.
