Passion. With the original Kirk you felt the character wanted to be a starship commander. There was nothing else he desired more and he pushed himself to become one of the greatest in history. No out side stimulus was needed. He had found his best destiny. His love for the federation drove him forward. New Kirk, had no passion. Nothing drove him but circumstance. By the time he was talked into going to the academy you already had the feeling his life couldn't get any worse. Starfleet was just an option to get him out of his current miserable state. No love for the federation or what it stood for, just another job.

James Tiberius Kirk was already one of the greatest hero's ever. Now he's just going to be remembered as some d*ckhead who some how went from cadet to Captain because someone had no idea how to write a movie script or took the time to care. A few explosion, almost naked women, an engine room that looks like a distillery, who cares if the plot line was implausible and filled with holes.

If by revised you mean destroying 40 years of lore and everything the original series stood for worse then any Star Trek movie or group of movies could hope to accomplish, then yes he revised the series. Congratulations JJ you made a monster. Why not just throw in Optimus Prime to fight the Borg. Then you'll really have something.

We snobs prefer plot line. acting, and a few less drunken frat boys in our sci fi than the average person. Not to mention maybe not re-writing the entire history of a 40+ year old franchise just because the "Tranformers Generation" can't pay attention for more the 15 minutes without an explosion, sex scene, or crass joke.

This guy has already destroyed one of the finest sci fi series ever created and turned it's prime hero into a drunken frat boy. Do we really want him tampering with Star Wars? One the other hand he does have experience with genocide, planet destruction, and douchebag hero's with daddy issues so then again you never know.
