  1. Well, I predict this thread may be locked, but I agree. Being a community manager or Mod for this forum does not strike me as a glamorous job.
  2. Maybe I'm just being stupid here, but I don't understand why people would ever hope something fails. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy this game or would choose to play it: A. There are probably some people who do and B. There are people whose livelihoods depend on this game, who put hours of work into it. I'm not saying that you should play the game for those reasons, but it seems rather childish to me to say you hope something fails.
  3. Check the main page, it talks about UI customization, Legacy system, PvP expansion, Guild features, etc.
  4. He's probably just playing the game slower, trying to enjoy story. One of the fun things about RPGs is you don't have to go fast to enjoy yourself, and SWTOR very much brings that into this game.
  5. I was glad to see the game content update bioware posted today, because most-all of the things (outside of bugs) that people have been asking for on the forums were brought up in this game. After seeing all of the complaining (whether or not the complaints are valid) on the forums, I was wondering when Bioware would get around to addressing them. Hopefully, more videos like this will be released and the devs will be able to keep in touch much more with the community, which is really what will help this game take off. But, I'm curious to hear the community's point of view. What did you guys think the update indicates? Am I right in being happy to hear that these issues are being addressed, or am I just being Naive about the game?
  6. It's good to see a critical thread that isn't mechanical/bug based, and isn't whining about some inconvenience here or there, because you pretty much hit the real big issue here. The issue is not at it's core bugs, or content, or anything like that, it's the challenge of "Can Bioware make this design work?" I will voice my opinion here that I think it can, though only time will tell. It is worth noting that Bioware has not downsized development teams post-launch; according to their reports they're still working non-stop on content. This gives me hope that they really can pull this off, and when I think of the true possibilities of what the Legacy system could be, I think it might be a great avenue for further development. Also, as you pointed out, WoW never made any original contributions to the MMO scene (or the gaming scene for that matter), but married concepts together in a polished way. SWTOR not only has the potential to do very polished work, but make original contributions and start paving a way for the genre itself. On a different note, on you're part at the end, I will comment that at my current level (38) I have never had to grind experience once. Only missions and my own class story (with an odd, intermixed flashpoint). I think it very possible to Role-play the game in such a manner where such realisms can be averted, and it seems almost as if the game was designed for that purpose. Great Read though, hope the devs see this!
  7. I can't say that people are completely unjustified in their behavior, but alot of the time I have found people very "go go go" and speed centric. I can understand though. Honestly, if it's that much of a problem, you should probably just join a guild of like minded people or primarily group with your friends. If it's really bad, move to an RP server, which is centered alot more on social content. You can't expect everyone to conform to your standards and interest types: it's why we have friends and the like. Hope you figure things out!
  8. Logistically: for Bioware and EA to make profit, they need to get in the range of 1 mil subs. For the game to look like a good investment, they need to reach 2 mil subs by the end of the year. Will that happen? I don't know, and I think anyone's predictions on the matter are as reliable as a weatherman's (which is to say, not at all reliable). I know one thing though: when Daniel Ericson said there'll be new content just around the corner, he's not kidding. Typically MMOs downsize their Dev teams after launch and focus on running the game before adding more content; except that isn't what Bioware is doing. As far as I am aware, Bioware's SWTOR dev team is still working on the game at roughly the same size as before, meaning almost ever worldbuilder, writer, combat designer, etc. is going to be churning out content that, though probably investigated by Bioware at an earlier date, was not completed for launch. This suggests that if they play their cards right, Bioware can easily keep sub retention by adding new features and content (a major addition should be coming sometime this month, I believe). As has been noted, SWTOR can only succeed if Sub retention is strong enough to keep it afloat. As I've said, I don't know if that will happen, nor can any of us say with certainty, but I hope that this game will succeed. That's right, I hope this game will succeed. We live in a world where people are primarily motivated by the negative: you don't want to see one guy win, but you really want his opponent to lose. As we know, (from the G.I.F.T.) people use the Internet as a way to proliferate negativity, but as unrealistic as it might be, I'd prefer for this game (or any game for that matter) to succeed rather than root for it's failure just cause. So all of this considered, my recommendation: stick around, see how well the game goes. If you don't like it after a couple of months, then leave, but give it a chance.
  9. I'm not sure if trolling or exagerating. I'm going with Poe's Law on this one.
  10. Now, General Discussion presents: Real Men of Genius Todays shout out goes to you, Mr. Launch Appreciative Forum Poster Surrounded by a thousand angry, screaming children who fail to see the positive in a staggered launch, you stand up, and tell everyone how you really feel. You shout the rally cry, talk about how this generation is impatient, how the SWTOR launch is intelligent, and offer to give any sad Moderators hugs. You are the champion of the reasonable, the king of the responsible, the man who uses the Light side of the force with a truly devastating potency. So pour yourself a tall glass of whatever beverage you choose, because this one's for you!
  11. Well, how can one rate the smoothness and glitch free nature of a launch unless they've gotten to play? Unless you actually have the experience, you wouldn't be able to make a qualified statement about the game's launch (in terms of the gameplay quality) at all. Once again, I'd like to reiterate that if everyone got to play on the same day, no one would be playing the game at all due to server crashes.
  12. Well, except for the fact that they'll have stress tested the servers enough to make that unnecessary.... I am inclined to agree. No one is forced to participate in or abstain from early game access, and the servers will be clocked in for the final wave on launch day. I'd also like to point out to those saying "they're preventing 1-mil people from playing", that if all 2 million people came in on the same day, no one would get to play the game due to server crashes. Off the topic of the launch, I'm really impressed by game quality. Even by Bioware's standards, this is an absolute standout.
  13. A. No one is required to take part in the staggered release. B. The benefits will be along the lines of things that don't happen rather than things that will. C. Technology is not user friendly, regardless of whether a release is staggered or not, but if everybody goes onto the game at once, you have increased the chance of a game crash like that which happened to WoW during it's launch. So yes, I happen to still think the staggered release was a good idea, despite some of the technical difficulties I have had to deal with on it. Let's look at the bigger picture rather than at instant gratification, shall we?
  14. Of course, there's also the possibilities of non-canon endings within the game, like the dark side ending of KOTORs I and II. They won't be official, but that's a good way to see "what if?"
