  1. The one I went to in New Orleans had a pretty young kid attending (8-10). No one said anything negative, infact a younger lady there played action figures with him for a bit. Since it is in a hotel usually it is alright for kids to attend (keep them supervised and behaving please). Many hotels serve a lot of mixed aged events (wedding receptions are really common). To be clear, a minor should have a parent/ guardian with them.
  2. My favorite growing up as a kid were Luke and Dengar (the bounty hunter from ESB with the bandages). I had been drug by a horse and was all bandaged up. My mom rented a VCR and a copy of Empire Strikes Back to help me feel better. I saw Dengar and went nuts, it was like I was onscreen, all grown up. My mom heard what was happening and went to the store(s) and found a Dengar figure. I spent the whole weekend watching ESB and making up back stories about how Dengar got drug by his dewback to get the bandages with my SW figures. Best mom ever.
  3. Episode V is my favorite. Wampas, AT-ATs, Yoda, the asteroid chase, Boba Fett, Cloud City, the first great Lightsaber duel (sorry Sir Alec, you were bad), Vader revealing the truth. Awesome movie from start to finish. In 1980, this was just an amazing piece of work. If you watch some stuff from around then, the quality so so different.
  4. You have to control your own spending. Biowares goal is to sell you stuff. Impulse control. I sub and spend what I can afford, not more.
  5. Nope. I like Connery, but Sir Alec did great. Wish he had enjoyed the movies more, but old dudes gotta old I guess.
  6. I believe Lucas said Luke was the greatest Jedi of all time. The Emporer was afraid of him, and had Luke not thrown away his sword, probably would have defeated him. Sadly, the special effects between the OT and the PT are so different due to technology advances that Luke seems underpowered. They didn't have Mark and D. Prowse in wire harnesses for really cool moves, Hollywood fight scenes and swordsmanship are much more visually exciting these days (minus edge on edge parries, don't get me started).
  7. It's entirely possible for Revan to start a new romance. He is a male. Add a bottle and a girl, instant romance. Yeah, we are that shallow.
  8. If it was real: The dream: Probably a Hutt lieing around with dancing girls and lots of food, drinks and drugs. The reality: Probably a Kowakian Monkey Lizard sitting on said Hutt's tail cackling, eating, drinking and hitting the space bong.
  9. I'd say it's a natural watering down that happens as more writers get their hands on an IP. A good example of this is the Conan IP. Robert E Howard's original stories used the supernatural (lost races, artifacts, beings from other planets, etc.) and lost technologies to make "magic". Get a few more writers involved, and you have dudes throwing fireballs.
  10. My biggest wish is for multi-player space. I can understand that the space combat is what it is, but not having a multiplayer option on an MMO seems like bad design.
  11. Thanks so much for coming to New Orleans guys! I think everyone had a great time. The 4 guys there were sooooo much nicer than the SOE folks I met at the community summit in '06. Also, if they didn't know something or couldn't reveal something, they were honest. If one of these is coming to or near your area, I hghly encourage you too go. Free Taun-Taun pet, free drinks, free food and prizes (thanks for the bookends Bioware and the gent who put them back up, my SW DVDs look impressive, most impressive now).
  12. This sounds very similar to the Lucas Arts/ SOE SWG community summit I went to in 06. I had a blast then (no booze then though, just pizza). I'll be there for this one, should be a great time.
  13. I enjoyed the prequals a lot. Sure, being an older fan, the old ones were better (to me). That doesn't mean that the new ones were garbage. Personally, Jar Jar got old in Ep. I. However, my wife, who is younger than me loves the guy, because she was about 10 when she saw it. I'm not going to let a bit character ruin a whole movie for me though. Fast forward is good. It was great seeing a young Obi Wan taking down a Sith. Liam Neeson as a Jedi, always a good thing. Seeing Yoda again, awesome! Seeing Palps as just a senator was very neat. Episode 2 (for me as an older fan) is enjoyable for me because of the Obi Wan as detective parts, chasing Jango and discovering far more than he expected. The wife loves the Anikan /Padme stuff (sammich time for me). The arena fight is pretty cool, and though Yoda on crack was a bit much for me, I can understand why other people would like it. Episode III is about even with RotJ on my personal scale. Parts aren't great (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) but it was awesome finally seeing Obi Wan put Vader in the Lava, 22 years after picturing it in my minds eye, after reading the RotJ novel for the first time and finding out why Vader wore his suit. The first space battle was awesome looking (ignore the Buzz droids older fans), seeing the capitol ships slugging it out toe to toe.I liked all the lightsaber fights in it as well. For me, the prequals made the character of Obi Wan one of my favorite SW characters, whereas before the prequals he was just the old guy who helped Luke until Yoda showed up. As far as PT vs. OT lightsaber fights, the PT are far better. The Luke vs Vader on Cloud city will most likely be my favorite piece of a movie forever, but even that fight, on a technical level, is steps below the fights in PT. I can't wait to see what episodes VII-IX will bring us in the way of saber fights.
  14. I agree. I think this might be the death of Han Solo movie. If Ford comes back, it makes perfect sense due to his age. Hammil was born in 51 (if I recall right) and Fisher was born in 55 or 56, so those two hopefully have at least 10 years of acting left, if they desire it. Fisher needs to lose some wieght and Hamill needs to grow a beard or use a prostectic, hasn't aged well. Just make the death worthy of the character. Understand that in 2018 (ep. VIII release I'm thinking) Han Solo will have been peoples hero for over 40 years.
  15. I think that was in the novelization of RotJ. There are several major differences between the novels and the movies. That is where Vader was first mentioned to have been put into lava by Obi-Wan, resulting in his wearing the armor. A funny scene in the novel is where Luke is taken before the Emporer. Somehow, Yoda's name comes out, and the Emperor basically says "Who is Yoda"? In the ESB novelization, General Veers AT-AT is destroyed by kamakazi Snow speeder too. The original SW novel says the emporer is basically a puppet, the Moffs and the like have all the power. Retcon FTW!
  16. SWTOR is a way better game than SWG. SWG had huge planets, sure, but they were populated by uninspired packs of mobs, the quest system in SWG was crap as well (only the legacy questline and expansion packs were decent). I do miss my Mustafar bunker though. Housing and crafting in SWG were better. SWG probably had the best systems for these 2 areas in any MMO I played. I'd say space is about equal. Though I hated the idea of a shooter on rails before I played it, the space section turned out way better than I expected. Very fun and addictive. Better than a SWG escort mission where the escorted ship crawled along, though free flight and asteriod mining were fun.
  17. Not suprised in the least to see a shift to a F2P/sub/shop. A huge portion of MMO's on the market have gone to something like this. Shocking 3 years ago, standard these days. Hopefully the shop is done well. Happily, LotRO, DDO, STO,CO and DCUO have all had pretty sucessful changes to this type of payment system. LotRO will be releasing it's 2nd expansion since F2P next month, and shows no sign of stopping. If anything, the SW IP is probably even more popular. This game has just started.
  18. Very happy with the game. Bought the CE, will continue to subscribe. Hopefully, the cash shop will not have gear or character upgrades (LotRO's stat tomes come to mind). Basically though, the sub model is deeply flawed. Some people just will not pay a monthly sub, and at the most, BW/EA is making $15 an account off those who are willing. F2P will not only net them the one time $5 to $10 short term player, but there are also a lot of people who will gladly drop stupid amounts of money every paycheck (the most I can think of personally was the husband/wife duo in my KIn in LotRO who spent about $300 in a month). Personally, I prefer the sub model myself, but the hybrid sub/F2P systems Turbine popularized just make companies way more money.
  19. This game makes me feel like when my Jr. High social studies teacher would wear her skin tight tan riding pants 20 something years ago. BOING!
  20. I want to have a 3 way with an AT-AT and a Saarlaac. Does that count?
  21. It's not that bad. The clone wars animated show is still pretty good. The prequals....well, if there aren't lightsabers swinging, blasters firing or ships blowing up, fast fowarding is a nice fix. It's amazing how much better Lucas' dialouge is when you remove 90% of it!). You have to be careful though, if Anikan is flying or Yoda is cracking out, even some fight scenes need to be fast fowarded through. I agree completely that the prequals were less enjoyable than the OT. However, it's not like there weren't bad SW products before the prequals. The Ewok movies, the Droids and Ewok cartoon, most of the Marvel comics (not including the film adaptations, those were good). And, dare I say......the one SW product that is SOOOOOO bad even Lucas wants to hide it, the holiday special. I'd much rather have new fans enjoying their own SW than have the franchise go the way of Howdy-Doody. I'm excited about the franchise. Though I wish GL nothing but the best, at some point he will pass on. More movies or TV shows will be made, expecially when the new generation of fans get into the seats of power in film, video games, ect. There is just too much money and nerd love for SW to die for at least a good 50+ years. Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, Conan, John Carter, The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings....so many properties have already lasted 70+ years. SW is still a baby.
  22. I thought they smelled bad....on the outside!
  23. It may be in decline. Then again, I went through the "dark times" of 1986-1991 (between the cancelation of the Marvel comic and the Zahn trilogy with Thrawn), so it all looks pretty good to me. At least they haven't remade the original, with new actors....I'm looking at you Star Trek.
