It really depends on your play style and preference I guess. The three healers have their strengths, as do their dps specs. Commando/Mercenary DPS and Heals has been really good for quite a while, and since they took the RNG out of gunnery/arsenal, both dps specs are superb in any fight. Speaking of RNG going away, scrapper/concealment Scoundrel/Operatives have been doing some amazing dps numbers. Couple that with the fact that they are the most mobile healing class, that helps, too. But they are mainly melee dps, so it has it's pros and cons. Sage/sorcerer heals have always been amazing and haven't stopped being amazing for a really long time. And Balance/Madness is getting a buff in 2.8 making it even more amazing. And TK/Lightning has always been and amazing spec to play. But the sage/sorcerer has always been the glass cannon of the three healers. Both in heals and in dps. All up to your play style and preference.

I wouldn't say it is necessary to know this beforehand, but it definitely helps to improve your tanking if you have a first hand experience of the openers the different DPS classes can do so you can make sure your own opener doesn't get beat out in the threat charts. Some tanks have that experience from just working with their dps, but most great tanks o know have experience in those specs as well. I started the game as a main on my Sentinel, and then I mained on my sage before finally maining on my tank. If you get a chance, just dabble in the other classes. See what makes them tick.Get used to their opening rotations. It will help you out a lot. My personal opinion.

As a Tank, what do you expect from healers?
WNxTheMitch replied to Xtremophile's topic in Combat Styles
I don't have to put forth expectations for the healers that I raid with because doing NiM progression, you are generally dealing with the best healers you can have. But for any other things, I would expect a healer to know when the heavy hitting phases and attacks are and be able to keep me alive through them. Constant application of hots, shields, and armor buffs is a must. I like to run with healers who tank as well. That way, they have an understanding of what their tanks can and can't do. If they don't have tanking toons, it's still vital that they know the tank they are healing well enough to predict when and for how much to heal. I consider it a good run when I don't have to use any adrenals or medpacs. It's really a two way street, though. All of my tanks, 3 pub side, 2 imp side, are optimized for mitigation, two of which are full 180 with some 186s. I realize there are different ways to gear your tanks, be that HP, mitigation, or a mix of the two, but I know that to be a true friend to your healer, it is best to optimized for mitigation. I only know this from experience because my VG Tank used to be an HP tank. We cleaered HM DF and DP with him geared like that, but that was in 16m and he was still getting hit like a truck. Just because you can build for endurance doesn't mean you should. That's just my own personal perspective, both from a current main tank and a former main healer. -
Simple, I let them tank. If I'm running flashpoints or raids on any of my toons, especially my heals or tanks, and a dps jumps in before the tank, I let them tank or even refuse to heal them. If they are dead, at least they can't mess anything else up. As for a tanking philosophy, I only really have one. I don't think that a tank is the best tank he/she can be without having healing and dps experience as well. So I think the best tanks are those who are proficient on their healing and dps alts as well.

I may change servers and come to this one... advices?
WNxTheMitch replied to Haggardbr's topic in The Shadowlands
And here I thought we were always super helpful in gen chat. Well darn. People complain about gen chat, but there are some pretty skilled and helpful people on this server. And many different guilds to raid with. -
I'm so glad he's dead. I hate him, his adds, and his face. I'm gonna take all my leftover frustration from Grob and make CZ cry. Oh and we are gonna one shot Brontes, right T?

The Chamber of Pain: A Tank's Training Dummy...
WNxTheMitch replied to forrest_m's topic in Combat Styles
So let's get a room/instance and have a dummy/boss hit on the tank using predetermined attacks/moves/mechanics. So in other words, a raid. Like I said, it's a fine idea, just not a feasible idea. The only place a tank can, and should, experiment and test out new gear numbers is in a raid. Where else would you be using that gear if not for that raid? -
I like how automatically the people who have clears and comment on this are the ones who are stroking their epeens. Sounds like jealousy speaking. If you have the coordination and raid awarness for HM, this NiM Mechanic is barely a hiccup. But I do hope they fix it shortly. I'm excited to see this fight in NiM now, though.
