Where did I ever say sandbox elements were bad? I wish this game had some of them. I was just perplexed by the people that expected this to be more like SWG, when there was no reason for anyone even remotely following the game to think that was the case. This I can agree with. I'd say very few games are solidly in the middle of this scale. Certainly this game is too far toward themepark and not even close to the middle.

Them adding the Yuuzhan Vong would be one thing they could do to make me quit, so I'm glad that's out. I'd support a 3rd faction for some good DAoC style RvR, but I'd like to see maybe the Mandos breaking away from the Empire and aligning with the Hutts/crime syndicates. Of course, they'd need some new classes...or at the very least 50 levels of new stories for those classes. Unfortunately, with staff reductions, I don't see that happening. The gear look thing is kinda lose-lose. People complain if the gear looks too much like the movies, and they complain if it doesn't look enough like the movies. Dark is right. Worse case scenario is you have to do the quest again and get it right this time. They're not going to allow people to permanently lose out on HK-51 when they removed the ability for you to perma kill other companions. The "make him more rare" part is requiring high level characters in both factions on the same server. Nothing is truly rare in MMOs anymore if you put in the time.

They'd be walking a dangerous line if they claimed the up to lvl 15 froobs as subscribers, since they generate no revenue. A game with a cash store can get away with it as long as they spent a nickel in the cash shop. They'd be better off not mentioning subs. By your definition, EVE isn't a sandbox either then, because it has quests.

No you're wrong, SWG was a sandbox AT LAUNCH. Maybe NGE turned it into a themepark, but it wasn't at launch. You're right though in that housing doesn't matter in what's a sandbox or what isn't. Themepark = directed and quest driven. How many MMOs does EA oversee? Do any of them report sub numbers? Blizzard does it because they're top dog. EVE use to, but I haven't seen them announce since before Monaclegate. They are only required to report raw financial numbers...they don't have to break it down by title.

They don't. They write off people that would ragequit over losing a name in a video game as not worth keeping, because if it's not this, it's some other trivial item they ragequit over. Maybe they should have gone with a naming system like Cryptic uses to begin with, but they're not going to redo their database now for the few people that will quit over this. If they were going to, they'd have done it before transfers, so everyone could have kept their old names.

IIRC the people demanding a SWG clone were the loudest voices prelaunch. They were also the loudest ragequitters in January when they were somehow shocked this wasn't a SWG clone, despite the fact the devs were quite clear this was going to be a standard themepark game with the added 4th pillar of story.

We do, but the devs completely ignored every bit of feedback for 1.3. I know I'm never going to bother with it again.

NO ONE paid extra for early access. What if the older toon is unsubbed but the newer toon is a sub? What if the older toon is active, but the newer toon has more time played and is higher level? What if the older account literally just created the character days before transfer, but the newer account 's character is older? You're going to piss off one customer no matter what you do. Only thing they should have done different IMO is active account has priority over unsubs, regardless of account/character creation date, and they should have just done the merger to begin with. I agree they should have gone with Cryptic's naming system (about the only thing Cryptic got right, IMO), and I said so during beta. Oh well...

Game could shut down at the end of the year, and I wouldn't regret my time played. I'll play as long as I'm enjoying myself, even if they're down to one server. Conversely, you couldn't pay me to play WoW. If you base what MMO you're playing on what you think the future holds for it, you might as well give up on the genre...they're all going to be shut down eventually. Did you play SWG, and if so for how long? If you played for any length of time, did you regret the time you invested, or do you just look back and remember it fondly?

Sucks that this happening more now than before 1.3, but the downtime isn't really out of line. EVE had downtime EVERY DAY when I last played sometime last year (and AFAIK still does).

EA doesn't do full F2P/freemium model like LotRO, AFAIK. When I see DAoC and UO go F2P, I'll believe it might happen for TOR. So...you think they still have 1.3 million subs...actual subs, and not up to level 15 froobs? I don't. I bet 900k tops, which is still respectable, but still a pretty hefty drop.

Killing bosses in level appropriate FPs give social points now, so level 50s running FP/ops will level up social. For time invested/social gain, AFAIK BT/Esseles is still top dog, though.

Why do you even care that you're losing names of characters in a game you're not even playing? The key there is no one paid EXTRA. The money you put down for preorder came off the final purchase price. Also, you were never promised you'd get the name you wanted even in early access.

I wouldn't be surprised if they gave us 10 slots per server (especially once new races are added), but people that think they're going to get 16+ slots aren't grounded in reality. IMO they'll just transfer peoples' overflow to another server for now, until they have paid moves and/or more slots.
