  1. A full 31 madness build is a minor DPS loss over most other hybrid builds. Similar to how proc-ing lightning strike over just casting force lightning is a DPS loss in the lightning build. So nope CT is far from the best ability for a sorcerer.

The best ability for the sorcerer is hands down Backlash. And before you start arguing that it is not an ability (its a skill point), it is because you can manually discharge it by right clicking the static barrier buff hence making it an AOE blind that is under our control.

    Amen to that...

Oh.. the amount of flaming I've gotten for promoting backlash, by random 31pt corruption or 31 madness sorcs lol

I am one of the best sorc/sin/marauder/gunslinger.

From a sin/marauder mdps pov... oh I hate backlash... omg... so annoying

Conversely... sorcs are free kills in general.... oh the joy of hitting a sorc without backlash lol.

Not to mention lightning effusion is amazing.

  2. Hitting Undying Rage at the start by accident

Not having throw huttball on a new alt bound to key

Not knowing break the Marauder stealth early to catch ball

Having spells on wrong slot after respeccing.

Playing my assasin like my sorc for like 2mins not realising I'd switched over.

Pulling friendly into a fire due to mistimed 180 mid air jump pull

Hitting vanish when holding the ball 1metre away from scoring.

  3. Thank you for all the replies. I play a Rage spec, and I'm rank 49 Valor. As far as trading in gear, how does that work exactly? I need to purchase Battlemaster pieces with Warzone Comms, and then trade the pieces plus Ranked Comms to purchase War Hero gear? Do I need to be Valor 60 to wear War Hero? I haven't really looked at the PvP gear up to this point, so this is all new to me.

Only Augmented crafted warhero needs 70.

You need to trade in the WH piece for the prereq BM piece.. .just the shell....

    - you can remove the mods before hand before shell is consumed

ie: my marauder at fresh 50

    I bought 2 Augmented Vibroswords

    bought BM Mainhand

stripped mods and put in VSword#2

traded the BM Mainhand for WH Mainhand

Stripped mods from WH to VSword#1

Added augments +str/end to both swords

    ..

On my sorc main... bought BM Marauder Chest

    - stripped mods and put in Legacy Marauder Helm mailed to marauder (no set bonus)

Sorc: traded BM Chest for Marauder WH Chest

    - stripped mods and put in Legacy Marauder Chest (set bonus intact) .. mailed to Marauder alt

As a jugg you want your set piece bonuses first. 5% bonus dmg on charge is more valuable than any combo of stats as you're banking on SMASH.

Weapon dmg is not so important for your main dmg dealer smash.

On another note.. what you need to learn is how to max 8 commendations

    i recommend:

    75k,300k dmg

5, 50k Protection: Use guard, taunt

    5k one life

    Solo Kill

    Killing Blow

    10 Kills

Defend nodes (afk at one if its one sided with no chance of winning)

  4. Recruit gear is fine. Wouldn't be too fussed about route. Do more research in improving skill first as theres more to gain from knowledge/skill than gear.

Depending on your class... 2piece and 4piece bonus is important.

Going for that first is beneficial. Full BM gear is easy enough to farm so it doesn't matter really.

But answering your question.... get the weapon and decide if you want 4 piece bonus of tank or dps

    or 2/2 of each.

No matter what class etc... the best perfect player consists of 70% skill, 30% gear.

    1. Best gear is Full Warhero with Optimised Mods and 7 Augments

    100% gear rating

    2. Plain War Hero no Augments

    90%

    3. Full Battlemaster

    85%

    4. Full Recruit

    70%

    5. PVE greens

    30%

An amazing player (70Skill) in recuit would be worth: (70)+(30x 70%)

    = 91 rating

An average player in 1st rate gear is (50)+(30x 100%)

    = 80 rating

I'd say majority of players in WZ are evenly spread between 0-70. If you're really good and are a 70 player you'll get BM just easily.

  5. Holy cow everyone !!! thanks for all the help .. this is truly great!

Prob best to watch a video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUGZip0Sff8

My mobility is second to none, with heavy use of tab targetting, assist friend, assist enemy, target rotation, fighting backwards. Simultaneous DPS/HPS which is rare as SWTOR vids go.

    What class do you play?

    Healer or DPS?

    Melee or Ranged?

Gotta consider your UI as well.

ASD aka default keys is bad placement in general. It limits your potential at the super elite levels. Many would argue its fine by way of modifiers blah blah... changing to something else will take 2weeks of adjustment which is worth it... I've thought, practiced and refined my DFG placement for about 20years.

    - Every skill should have a key

    - You should be using all 4 bars

    - Ops frame is the only thing you click

    - Click targeting is terrible but sometimes its your only choice.

    -F1, F2, F3- F12 are all bound to skills.

tab,`qwaszxcvbnm,.uiopjkl ... are all great keys to bind .. mind you DFG placement allow me to reach the whole keyboard..... you can compensate with MODIFIERS like control, alt, shift etc.... but that interferes with movement.

    You should have binds for:

    - Next enemy .. mine is N

    - Next friendly .. mine is Y

    - Self ... mine is H

    - Assist ... Mouse 4

    - Set Focus

Mouse Roll forward = Jolt aka counterspell

Mouse Roll backwards = some other important spell... bubble

You'll need keybinds for at least 4 marks

    Green Sabre

    Yellow Reticle

    Orange Blaster

    Gold Star

(the others are useless due to low vis)

One thing to consider is if I were to be on my marauder and were run through you back/forth/left/right ... clockwise/counter clockwise rapidly while maintain dmg on you.... will you struggle to keep me in front of you.... Often there are many opponents to perform 50% less dmg on me simply cause of this simple tactic.

PVP is a lot more cutthroat than pve as people will exploit every advantage and take physical skill to extreme levels for the smallest of advantages, but each advantage adds up.

  6. Moving Forward and Strafing sideways offers 100% speed

Backpedalling is 50% normal speed. It has its uses but strafe and 180 jump are better alternatives.

Strafing sideways and the crappy camera system make it tough to kite. Strafing is good but the tab targetting makes it difficult to switch targets and move

Jumping allows for no deviation of path while allow 1second to 180 mid air to target-scroll, instant, assess battlefield.

Jumping when directly above a knockback will often land you within melee range. As a marauder you can still hit that commando/gunslinger without blowing stealth/breakout. As a sin you can save the sprint root break for the single root or close distance from the stun/flashbang. Vs Sorc with spec'd overload root you can still scream/melee/execute them.

Jumping is technically slower as you tend to decelerate midair slightly.

Those that are able to jump are physically more adept at keyboard mastery. Its not really a matter of its usefulness but a matter that those who can master control and micromanage while airbourne can choose to to "not jump".

Most players don't have this mastery so they can't jump around even if they tried.

There are a few classifications of control and it is noticable when you PVP against them. Not a definitive list but here are the main ones (from most skillful to least), some people may belong to multiple categories.

    1- Jumpers

: generally have high hand dexterity, reflexes and twitch

    2 - Mouse Turners

    3 - Default Key Users

: ASD has way too many restrictions on the availabitiy of the keyboard. Pinky finger is wasted and the keys beyond 7YHN are hard to reach.

    4 - Keyboard Turners

: PvE players usually... simply jumping over them back and forth, dog fight pattern will cause them to fail their casts for up to 50% of the time. Walking through them back and forth, Strafing side side on top of them.

    5 - Clickers

    : LOL

In conclusion Jumping is good. most mediocre players don't have the physical prowess to pull it off or the skill to see its advantages.

  7. You clearly don't understand. You're missing so many key abilities and talents that level 30+ all have. This is a massive disadvantage and I call BS on you out dpsing people consistantly as a level 10.

380k dmg as a lvl 10 PT in my very first warzone... 100k more than the other 42-49 PT. PTs are overpowered imo.... but not everyone can pull it off.

    As a gunslinger/marauder/sorc topping dmg/heals is routine.

Its not really the level that matters, usually the Level 10 player is also a noob. Then again there are noobs in full war hero gear too and in the 30+ levels.

Again.. I routinely outdps heal full augmented Warheros in recruit gear.

The game is 70% skill, 30% gear at any bracket or level. Bad players exist at all levels and gear. Just level 10 players are more often not bad, undergeared and underlevelled. Personally I don't mind these at all as you gotta start somewhere.... its the bad's in war hero / pve gear at 50 that piss me off.

At least the lvl 10 noob might be able to blossom into a decent pvp'er... the ones at 50 already have peaked.

  8. You jump too much... jumping is bad in this game.

Being able to jump around and cast is a sign of character control. Besides a jump is about the same time as a GCD helps train muscle memory and twitch skills. Its an old bunny hopping habit I can't break since Quake1 in the 90s

Jumping is cast cancelling and proc checking, while allowing you to move and shoot behind you.. Wrath proc to Crushing/Shock/Lightning Attack/Static Shield/ Purge

Certainly you could strafe and turn 5degrees to achieve similar result. Simply labelling it merely "jumping" shows naivety.

As a marauder/sin its amusing to gain a 50% GCD upper hand on players that struggle to keep you in front of them for targeting.

Jumping directly above Knockbacks will land you directly on top of your enemy.

Jumping is not always bad.. maybe just for you.

  9. I ...... Or clicking on them, which is just about impossible in the hurly-burly of a pvp match. How do you experienced healers do it?

Takes a lot of practice. Look at the targeting technique in my sorc video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUGZip0Sff8

(most healers can't dps.. likewise dps can't heal)

Its important to excel at both. That way you know how to defend against attacks, and attack through defense.

Watch this particular sorc video, pay attention to the targetting technique ie:

    - fighting on the run hitting targets not in view behind me

    - watch my GCD and constant target cycling

Don't use default keys.. look at my keybinds DFGR

    n: target next enemy

    h : target self

    y : next friendly

    middle mouse: assist

.... If you can replicate my "assist" technique you're on the way to becoming the best

.... I assist enemy and friend alike. You have to look at the "target of target" to see who needs healing.

Gotta be aware of the surroundings and guess the offensive pattern of your teammates. To account for them running around corners or out of range of heals.

    More about assisting on enemy:

    - When you target enemy healer...

    you can cc/interrupt them

assisting them will always yield a target about to die or requiring heals

    - When you target an enemy DPS

"Target of Target" will show you who they are targeting

Assist will yield a target that needs healing ... soon

    F1-F4 target simply doesn't work

  10. Most premades are just a random pug of "not scrubby" players.

The best 8 will be the team with strong PVP fundamentals like:

    - discipline

    - chain of command

    - great individual skill

    - strategic awareness

    - optimum gear

    - focus fire

    - anti sponge awareness

    - class balance

99% of premades can barely form an assist train of 2 let alone a train of 8.

The greatest PVP teams are those that can recognise weaknesses in themselves and and as a team. If you ever get to a point where you cannot see anything wrong with yourself or the team, you've peaked and thats the best you'll ever be. Leaving you no where to go but down or being overtaken by teams that do.

  11. Problem with Rage is its heavily reliant on Smash which is mitigated by armour.

Also aiming the smash requires skill

So against PT and Juggs it only hits for 2-3k

Against Light/Medium it hits for 4.5+

(WIth optimised full WH + mods + augments + relic + adrenal + bloodthirst + opponent with terrible gear) 9k is possible

Rage has MUCH more survival. Undying rage can be specd and set bonus buffed to a 45sec cd which is amazing.

Rage is good vs guarded targets if you land both and they're stacked. Due to ShiCHo+Berserk+Vicious hitting 2 targets.

Rage is the better "SPIKING" class, if you have a decent premade where you focus fire or synchronise burst dmg.

Anhil deals mostly internal dmg so its better vs heavies/light alike

    - spec'd Counterspell to 6sec CD is amazing

    - 12sec Charge is nice

    - Dot > Stealth > Dot is great for staying alive and dealing dmg, albeit cheap

  12. Both Anhil and Rage are great specs.

    Rage Spec:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#100bcZMMZGrMrzfkRfz.1

    Rotation:

    Frenzy

Berserk , (+4 Shockwave, 6 free Vicious Slash)

    Charge (+3 Rage)

    Smash (0 Rage)

    Battering Assault (+6 Rage)

    Force Crush(+4 Shockwave)

    Vicious Slash ... 1-2k

    Vicious Slash ... 1-2k

    Vicious Slash ... 1-2k

    Vicious Slash/Vicious Throw/Force Scream

    Vicious Slash/Vicious Throw/Force Scream

    Vicious Slash/Vicious Throw/Force Scream

    Obliterate/Charge

    Smash

    Choke(+4 Shockwave)

  13. Wise choice

    Best heal spec for PVP:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#201GhMRMdMzZfobrzRr.1

The backlash from Bubble is better than healing.

Why heal 10k when the person with a buble stops taking dmg from melee for 2secs

Also you can actually survive to heal.

Flash alone is enough to deal with attackers

But you still have Electic Bindings and Stun

Also reduced Sprint cd via Lightning Effusion

Deep 31 corruption means you gain the crappy aoe heal.. good luck getting that off without being counterspelled/stun/knockback/flash

And consumption ... lol, when it could be used without hp loss it was great...

If you Force Lightning or dot.. you gain 2 50% casts. This works out better than consumption ever was.

  14. I tend to disagree with the summary of "Backlash" as being useless

A 4sec aoe flashbang on bubble break is amazing.

In heal spec or dps spec you put on teammates and self and the amount of cc is amazing.

Flashbang on a 2 mdps assist train means your teammate stops taking dmg for 4 secs

VS scoundrel/ops .... they start with stealth opener and get flashbanged

The flashbang is not just on yourself, its on each and every bubble you cast. So if you healed 100k with shields alone in a wz... that 100k is more equivalent to about 200-300k heals due to the CC. The enemy literally stopped attacking for 3secs

  15. Ok I have found that in EVERY WZ I have been in in the less than 50 bracket, I end up healing more than DPSing. I am specced damage because it has always been my preferred role but I am seriously reconsidering because my dmg and healing are very much split right now so can't really excel at either.

My concern is relying on my team to kill priority targets (other healers) and keeping people off of me that are focusing me. I am concerned that I will not be able to kill that dps that is on my butt interrupting me. Example: I am running to East or West in Novare Coast and a dps jumps me halfway there and now I am in a 1v1 fight. Can I take them out if played right (just a low slower) or is my dmg just gimped? In situations where heals are not really needed (like another healer is there so we have divided the work load) can I still put out some decent pain?

While leveling, will I be able to DPS things down to help my companion?

    Would appreciate the feedback!

after 34 when you get Force Storm

Each and every pull is more or less:

    * shield self

    * jump on speeder and ride into the middle of the pack

    * Force Storm on top of self until everything dies

(use Andro or Khem)... doesn't really matter what spec

If you PVP a lot, going heals means you will win more games. DPS is just fine for PVE at any spec

If you want to DPS... the only real viable spec is Wrath+Death Field, thats 15 in Madness @ lvl35

Mind you most of your heals come from the bubble.

To be a decent healer you need 21corruption.. i dont recommend going higher than 21

In PVP if a sin/marauder jumps you.. the only hope of survival you have is if you had 21 in lightning. Even then you need to pray the enemy hasn't been dotted up. Either way 2 on 1 you're dead and 1v1 you're locked down or dead.

Against a Scoundrel stun open.. you're dead unless you have "backlash"@ 20lightning spec...

Going 20 lightning at first means you neither heal or dps well.

So.... specialise 21corruption at first to heal and live with no dps/survival

Or go 21 Madness and have no heals.

Best dps spec at 50 is:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#201ZbsbMdRrZcMfRsMk.1

    Best heal spec is:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#201GhMRMdMzZfobrzRr.1

    best heal/dps is:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#201RGbRMdMzZbZcMcRsMz.1

31 in corr/light/madness is stupid .. dont do it

  16. So I've only been doing warzones for about a week or so post 1.2 (took a month break from the game) and I'm trying to catch up on what needs to be changed. The only sources I can seem to find are this thread and the stickied "Guide", and to be honest the Guide thread seems to be a cluster-dsfdf.

Would be interested in getting some more definitive guidance on the best DPS build from the most experienced Sorcs here post 1.2. I am currently using a hybrid build and on average deal about 300k damage per WZ but am basically using the same build/strategy as prior to 1.2. I have noticed that prior to 1.2, I was always 1 or 2 overall in terms of DPS, but now I'm usually #3 or so. Either people just got better or better geared, or I'm not playing properly post 1.2. My server, while very populated, doesn't seem very competitive PvP wise, so I think my "success" may be more due to the crappiness of my opposition than anything else.

Also if you don't mind sharing, did you feel the need to change your keybindings post 1.2?

Also (last question), I generally mouse turn and move by clicking left and right mouse button, but it seems like many of the better sorcs actually still use wasd or esdf for movement. Is this because mobility and castable spells while moving are not major issues for Sorc as opposed to say a Marauder?

WASD and ESDF are crap key placements

RDFG allows for better and more direct access to the keyboard.

My pinky alone can accurately hit: `12qwaszx

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUGZip0Sff8

This video is a 0/20/21 build...

Some of the more expert skills implemented are:

    1. Kite Attacking

    - attacking while evading enemy

    2. Kite Defense

    - healing/bubbling while evading enemy

    3. Almost 0 wasted GCDs

    - if you look at my cast bar... you will rarely see it stop

    4. Positioning

    - where i move/stand is very deliberate

    5. Proc awareness/Cooldown awareness

    - wrath, bubble, stun, knockback

    6. Offensive awareness

    - picking out critical target

    7. Defensive awareness

    - healing where necessary to prevent teammate death

    8. Assist Bubble Technique

    - look carefully at my video and you'll see bubbles protecting my teammates this technique is very advanced.

    - While target enemy, I hit assist key> bubble > continue attacking.... this means that my bubble is applied to the person directly being attacked

9 Specific VS class offensive and defensive maneuvres

    - my fighting pattern is specific to the class... ie counterspells, line of sight, kiting, slow, root, stun

Had I concentrated on Offense would've easily done about 400k dmg... but we won in a short game with me doing 250/170 dmg/heal

There was another pure dps sorc on my team.. who only managed 180kdmg with 40k heals.

    - the difference is simply the pts 1,2,3..9 above

20lightning is best for PVP for both heal spec or dps spec.

  17. my only question is: how can you stand 2min fights without draining your force? :D changing life for force in the middle of a fight where any decent player will target you doesn't seem like a good option. Kiting, yeah, but with so many casts ?

    20Lighting

    :Lightning effusion

You basically Force Lightning channel attack opponent to proc a crit

    ... Next 2 Casts are 50% off

this is better than or comparable "consumption pre 1.2

Not to mention the survival improvements. Offered by Backlash, Electrical Binding

Most 31corruption don't live long enough to have mana problems

  18. Heres the solution

    20 lightning spec , 21 corruption.

    Your teammate at 45%

    you bubble him

    you cast resurgence

bubble expires and flashbangs the attackers (backlash), as a result he takes 5k less dmg

when the attackers see you healing teammateA, they switch to you

when the bubble on you expires, they get flashbanged again

you still have "electric bindings" and stun to deal with them

best way to heal is "not having to heal" in the first place.

you now have "lightning effusion" too

    - if you need mana you attack with Force Lightning to get 50% off 2 heals

    - and... you can sprint -10sec cd

  19. Don't go full heal spec... imo anyone that goes 31corruption for PVP after 1.2 is a noob.

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#201GhMRMdMzZfobrzRr.1

As a fresh 50 you will die easy.... 20lightning gives much more survival

    http://youtube.com/pinkseid

    videos

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUGZip0Sff8

Although this video is my DPS build ... 0/20/21

... it clearly demonstrates the power of 20lightning and the mana regen it provides

    31corruption

    :: Pros

    - aoe heal

    ::Cons

-15pts to go deep Corruption gains you nothing

    - no CC

    - mana probs

    - extremely poor survival

    20lightning

:: Backlash, Lightning Effusion, Electric Binding .... ARE OP

use Force Lightning to proc crit to make 2 heals 50% cheap

    - Backlash = Flashbang on bubble break.... insane not to get it.... thats each and every bubble on yourself and friends

^ Heal numbers will be less but the amount of flashbangs you output reduces enemy damage significantly and beyond improves your survival

ie... Scoundrel stealth up at you and stealth opens you... bubble break and he gets flashbanged.... he pops cc-break after wondering what happened for 1-2secs... stun wears off you and you kb which roots him and sprint away... bubble lockout expires and you refresh bubble on self... he stuns and chase up to you... hits your and gets flashbanged again... he is now stuck in 6sec cd... it wears off and he chases you again... your kb is back up and stun still available.... while you're running around you can shield team and toss a few heals too.

Your problem is simply spec. 31 Madness is bad for PVP and everything in general

Let me list the pros and cons of your spec:

    Pro's:

    - not much.. it does dmg, not great but not awful

    Cons:

    - Terrible Mana efficiency

    - Terrible Survival

    - No group utility

    - Ordinary CC

18-20 in Lightning is a must for PVP... goes for heal and dps spec

Most OP abilities in Sorc tree are:

    - backlash

    - lightning effusion

    - electric bindings

    - wrath

Your spec 31 Madness only has:

    - wrath
