  1. I went with pyro initially. Because you have Mako (who heals you), you can afford to be the DPSer... and pyro becomes quite a bit of fun even by the late teens. My long term plan is probably a Shield tech/pyro hybrid build. My initial goal with pyro was building up to the railshot boosting talent on the 3rd pyro tier (I forget what it is called).
  2. Would you be ok with them celebrating the invention of paragraphs in their next update?
  3. I'd be playing right now but my wife is too engrossed in it to let me. In fact, she wants to buy a second machine for it. All of my 30+ friends are way into it due to our memories of KOTOR. It is also very accessible for children... I have one friend who is not a gamer who is paying for 2 accounts: 1 for him and 1 for his son. The game is very fun because the stories are great and you have lots of characters to try out. The problem for Bioware is that the end game and PvP content needs a ton of work or people will start leaving eventually. On the bight side, they have time. Also, most games are much much worse than this at launch.
  4. All GREAT points. And ALL of these are pretty easy to fix. Do you know what is difficult to fix? The plethora of problems with STO, Darkfall or AOC (as of launch). So... the doomsday message seems extreme. Otherwise, I agree.
  5. Fair. Again, I think everyone here agrees that without more end game content/PvP content, people are going to ask themselves why they are paying $15/month. Totally agree with that. On the other hand: I really think people here have not played many MMO launches. From my experience, the vast majority of MMOs have limited features at launch with anemic end game content. COH's PvP is still **** by the way, and that game is wildly successful. My point is: the hyperbole of some of these posts detracts from their one good point (that more work needs to be done). I agree about blind support for any game. Irritates me as well/
  6. Again, I think you guys are micalibrated on what a bad launch looks like. Darkfall AOC STO THAT is what a bad launch looks like. This is a fully functional and very fun game. A few bugs exist but not many (somewhat like Skyrim, actually). Now, that said, they need to build on the PvP/end game content or people are going to ask themselves why they are paying $15/month. I agree with that. But they have time. I will certainly say that this game is more interesting at launch than COH was.
  7. right? I mean look: we finally have an MMO where doing missions is not the same canned *********** grind over and over again. We actually have a storyline to follow! Very fun. I just did the Black Talon flashpoint with a character for the first time. I enjoy the movies and the dialogue options that are chosen by the players. Eve still blows everything else away in terms of PvP/grouping... but heck, guys, the storyline aspect of this thing is what makes the game new and interesting.
  8. The PvP is poor. But look: many MMOs are not released with any PvP options whatsoever. COH comes to mind as a great example. You want to see a failure launch? STO, AOC, Darkfall. Go back and read the posts on THOSE launches. THAT is what failure looks like. Nothing works, nothing to do in game, impossible to log on. None of that is going on here. I am hard pressed to come up with a better launch. Eve at launch was awful, by the way. Simply awful. But the developers nursed a core player base along, took on their feedback and built a truly revolutionary game. By the way, Eve actually flies a few select players to Iceland to take part in discussions on the future of the game! How is that for getting advice from your player base?
  9. That point is irrelevant to my point. I am saying the game is likely to succeed. Bucketing it as an "MMO" is silly. It offers so much more than that. I would say it is the ultimate themepark MMO BECAUSE of its single player content. Now, that said, Bioware would do well to figure out how to facilitate grouping.
  10. Lol. Dude. This game has had a fantastic launch compared to every other MMO out there. This game will do fine for several obvious reasons 1) It is Star Wars. 2) It focuses heavily on single player and does it well using a tried and true very successful model (KOTOR). The dialogue is funny and the stories are engrossing. 3) All 8 classes have their own unique story, providing quite a lot of replay value... much much more than other MMOs. This makes up for the rather weak PvP/end game content at present. 4) The game worked at launch. Bugs? Yes. Same as Skyrim, though: nothing game breaking. 5) No MMOs have a ton of content at end game 1 week after launch. I was beta with COH, for example. Once you hit max level, you just started a new character redoing prety much the same exact quests all over again. So look: I get it, there are problems that need to be fixed. Absolutely agree. I also agree that if no new end game content and/or PvP content is added, people will get bored. (PLEASE NOTE THAT POINT). Then they will leave. But for being 1 week in, SWTOR looks pretty sweet. Much better than COH, Eve or WoW did when they were only a week old. All 3 of those have been hugely successful, long lasting games, by the way. Let's see how it goes. I am optimistic about the game's prospects. I do concede that I have a soft spot for this style of game as I played all of the KOTOR games and loved them. Here's the thing, though: there are a lot of people like me in their 30s... we remember... and we will play this game for awhile. One last thought: my wife just tried it out and is hooked. For her the game is accessible, it WORKS, and it allows her to run around torturing people with electricity. This game has a draw that others won't and it is executed pretty well.
  11. Skywalker DID bring balance to the force... he destroyed both the Jedi order AND the Sith (by killing the emperor).
  12. None of you Jedi should be pursuing romantic entanglements. That path leads to the dark side... although as posted above, that would be fun to role play, I suppose. As a Bounty Hunter, I find I have plenty of romance options. I think Smugglers are the same way.
