If you solo queue I would say play madness, the heals from your DoTs and the tree can put you up at almost 1k HPS along with 1300+ DPS. People will still die but it might take a slightly longer amount of time. If you queue with a group I would suggest Lightning, you will have to the burst to potentially global bad players and do tons of AoE damage. You're overall damage will be roughly the same as you can usually sit back and free cast while you group peels for you and heals you, while still doing a significant amount of self heals, I usually manage about 400-500 HPS in lightning.

Ok so I had some faith left in the devs until I logged on today. Someone needs to straighten some **** out around here. You official patch notes say Gore is on the GCD, last 6 seconds, and does more damage, but on live it has off the GCD, does no damage, and last 3 seconds. You have **** down the carnage spec and then tried to pacify the players who main this by lying to us. I am unsubbing because you people cant figure out how to balance a class without taking away core abilities. http://gyazo.com/6dbc2bbf2b1bcd9835903727edb3ab8d - That is a SS of Gore on live as is.. Gore no longer ignores the global cooldown, but as a result, it now deals much more damage and increases armor penetration for 6 seconds instead of just 4.5 seconds. These changes, combined with the changes to alacrity (which now reduces the global cooldown and the cooldown of most abilities), mean that Carnage Marauders can rather easily sneak an extra attack into every Gore window. - That is from the Official changes to the Marauder and Sentinel page. This argument went long and hard through my guilds Mara population. Power or Strength? In the end it's almost a personal preference. In my PvE gear I run strength, in PvP I run power. In my imagination, and possibly reality running the strength with the extra bit of crit is a bonus when a fight last longer than 5-6 GCDs. Where as in PvP the raw power boost might benefit over the short duration of most engagements. In the end the difference between power and strength augments are almost minuscule. I believe when I did the math back in 2.4ish it was a loss of like 9.1 bonus damage at the acquisition of 1% crit. So in the end it's almost always a personal preference.

Not sure how old this is, but I'm feeling helpful so I thought I would post. I've been pulling this fight, and NiM in general, on my Mara for months now. I've tried every spec for the Mara, from Gore/Smash to DoT/Smash. I prefer, and always will, to play Carnage. It give great burst on any add that needs to die with in a certain time limit, and with the recent buff to the proc, or removal there of actually, it's a consistent amount of face ripping that never gets old. I would also go as far as to say on Brontes, that carnage is essential for any Mara even looking to pull that fight. While Anni is a viable option the out right burst in Carnage can make the droid phase or six finger phase an utter joke. All that being said no fight "requires" a specific spec. In fact some fights that most people would smash on I would never even think of doing because I'm not particularly comfortable with that spec. It all boils down to what your play style is and how comfortable you are with the rotation and synergy of the class.

Lol waiting to have my NiM geared Mara one shot everything please! Actually on second thought, the computer would probably play Carnage wrong and just annoy me by Force Choking everything.

My favorite thing is they have an 8m reg queue but none of them top charts, it's simply amazing how bad you can be and still win through sheer numbers.
