  1. Considering that it's been in every Star Wars movie (maybe every George Lucas movie?) it should have definitely had a place here. As long as it wasn't overused, it would be awesome. My wife and I always share a laugh when we hear it in a movie or TV show.
  2. First, as stated a few times above and not yet acknowledged by you, "zero tolerance" literally means that there's no acceptable reason for violating any of your rules. The fact that you give out warnings directly goes against what you're asking for. Second, as also stated a few times, "zero tolerance" tends to cause more problems than it fixes. What if one of your new members had a bad day, said a naughty word, and got kicked, but the next day one of your best, most loyal officers did the same thing and got a warning? That would send a pretty nasty message about double standards to your guild members. And if you kicked him, you'd end up getting a bad reputation for kicking people over tiny infractions. Third, our guild has only had one rule; if you have a problem with someone, you hash it out with them or talk to me. Anyone can say or do anything they want as long as it doesn't bother anyone else. It's a general rule, but it has served us well. In our 10+ years of running, I've only had to remove one member, and only had one or two members quit because of problems they had with someone else. Obviously there are the unspoken rules of cheating, theft from the guild or other members, things like that, but those cross a line that I think we can all agree are incompatable with any successful group. Almost every guild that I've come across that has an almost totalitarian rule scheme ends up with a small core of "cool kids" that are untouchable, and a revolving door of abused peons that aren't happy where they are. Does it work for some guilds? Sure, but the most successful guilds I have known are uncensored, obnoxious at times, encourage intoxication most of the time, and have fun all the time.
  3. I know it's not possible for all fights, but we found that if anyone was having issues seeing certain graphics they only get resurrected inside the instance, never release after a wipe. Mostly where this came into play was 16 man Denova, on Stormcaller/Firebrand. Myself and another guy were supposed to deal with the EMP things and yellow things, but we kept having issues seeing the red mortar circles and the EMPs. Turned out that if we were resurrected instead of releasing, we were able to see them fine.
  4. Easiest and most drama free way of distributing loot for us has been open rolling, more or less. We do have a priority system, though: 1. Main spec, actual item 2. Main spec, mods from item 3. Off spec or sidegrade 4. Companions So we just roll like that, no other restrictions. It's like someone above said, everyone is going to get what they want eventually. I will say though that the system can suck if you have a lot of pugs or guild members with irregular attendance. It's pretty damned annoying to get someone all decked out and have them dissapear a week later. But then again, nobody is going to want to join the raid group if you tell them they aren't eligible for loot.
  5. I should have clarified that my response was directed towards people that don't want underage people in their guild or voice chat for fear of legal action being taken against them if they bring up certain topics or use certain words.
  6. I just can't take someone seriously that consistently misuses "your" and "you're," or says "would of" instead of "would have." There are plenty of examples of basics that were drilled into our heads from elementary and reinforced through whatever grade we last completed. Some spelling errors, English not being a primary language, shortcuts and abbreviations due to time constraints, I get all that. Not understanding basic contractions, being lazy, not putting an ounce of effort into making yourself understandable, that's the stuff I just don't understand. I actually find it more difficult and longer to type like I barely made it through the second grade.
  7. Can anyone actually reference a couple of these "legal problems" they are so afraid of? I've never once been in or seen anyone else get in any type of legal trouble, and I'm not at all convinced that there even is much of anything that could be considered illegal, at least in the United States. I've never held back the way I speak in any situation because it's up to the parents to parent their kids.
  8. It's pretty much a requirement to drink whenever we're doing anything. We have a couple designated drivers, but they're cool too. Well, as cool as someone can be when they aren't drinking with you, anyway. Jung Ma, Nihilistic. Feel free to hang out some time.
  9. The guild I am in is the most well known. Also, I am the most famous hired gun in the galaxy.
  10. We require voice chat from everyone because people are not perfect. If every person did everything perfect every time, we would only use it for socializing. Some people require auditory cues at least some of the time. Other times, it's much faster to say "cleanse me" than type it. Even serious PVP is more efficient with it. If people are requiring you to come into voice chat for "easy" PVE or casual PVP, though, then they're taking it a little too far. Bottom line, it's more efficient to speak than type, so when you're in a fight that requires everything to go correctly, you need voice chat.
  11. Slugkeg - I understand that the change has already been made. My post was towards anyone that is telling others that they weren't playing "correctly." Mavery - I explained in my post why we would exit area. It was never about repair costs, especially after 1.2. It was about saving time, and keeping up momentum and motivation.
  12. The question that comes to my mind is how does my operations group exiting area have any effect on your operations group? We have our procedures and don't feel the need to involve any kind of video game honor in them. A lot of the time, one mistake means a wipe. If your group feels the need to sit there and wait for everyone die, you still can, nobody is forcing you to push that button. For us, it takes away from the fun and breaks up our momentum when we have to sit there and watch a boss bash our face in, or be the ones that are dead waiting for everyone else to die. So back to the original question, what's the problem with your group playing how you want to play, and us playing how we want to?
  13. We already have a channel called LFG on Jung Ma, Empire side. It's already semi populated, so I'd turn your efforts to promoting that one, especially since LFG is a more common term than GLFG.
  14. This whole thing with "legal ramifications" just sounds silly to me. I'd love to see any kind of proof that a person was convicted of a crime for using "naughty" words or drinking alcohol while an underaged person was in the channel. I didn't spend long searching, but I didn't even see anything about it being illegal to glorify alcohol usage to a minor. We invite anyone that truly wants to join our guild (not people just looking for a random guild.) Age has never mattered, and has only been a problem once or twice with raiding, as one of our members had a bed time. We replaced him, he stayed in the guild, problem solved. We never watch our language, subjects, or what we consume because if a person fits in with the group and how we interact, their age is irrelivant. It's not my responsibility, nor any leader's responsibility, to act as the underage person's parent. If the parent doesn't want their child in that environment, it's their responsibility to remove them from it. The other major argument, age and maturity being linked, is immediately shot out of the water because it's impossible to judge a person's maturity level based on the day they were born. It's just as absurd as assuming character traits based on race.
  15. 50% of the challenge was being mostly naked. The other half was that 75% of our raid group was fruck as dunk and/or high. I mean really, with the commentary, couldn't you tell?
  16. Sacrificing defensive stats to gain more health does not a good tank make.
