You want compare, I'll give you comparison. I started playing WoW something couple weeks after release. That time I had Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo with: Athlon 3200+, freaking 1Gb RAM, dedicated ATI video card with freaking 32Mb deticated RAM on it. That time it was $2000 laptop and WoW was running fine on it. Can you play TOR on that laptop, no, because all hardware became obsolete during time. But you still need a $2K laptop to run TOR. Same as Vanilla WoW became obsolete with in 7 years. So you trying compare game from 2011 with obsolete game from 2004. What is the point? You know, even if you gold plate pile of crap, it does not turn it in to chocolate. In current state, that's what TOR is, a pile of crap.

I forgive you. Refurbished means that laptop is in confirmed working state, according to manufacturer. And it is freaking quad core Sandi Bridge processor.

All changed with 1.0.1, graphics engine is a mess and 1.1 made it worse. I have an old laptop and it is very good for verifying, what is going on. Pre access, not a single problem. After 1.0.1 tons of problems. But you know, they still have stick to their min speck or change it.

Good for you, I never ran in to that problem before, obviously my GPU never been so over loaded. Despite I have been playing other games on my laptop, including WoW. After googleing I found out that such behaviour is pretty normal for modern video cards due over heating.

I'll bet your card doing same as mine did. You could download GPU-Z and see what is going on. What are clocks after windows comes up, what happens when you start any other game and what happens when you run TOR. I don't remember what was load when my GPU was dropping clocks but after I figured out how to fix problem. My GPU been always on 99% since then. It is GPU internal protection, protection thinks that under current load GPU gets over cooked, so protection drops cpu clock and shader clock in to safe operating state.

Not Nvidia cards, game puts video card under heavy load. So only cards with good cooling work well. Got my GF9600M GT working fine, after doing lot of tweaks. But yes, I had problem after 1.0.1, my GPU started dropping clocks in to safe state (internal GPU protection). Managed deal with that problem buy lowering video RAM clock for 20Mhz with over clocking tool.

If any one has artifacting at high temp, just lower video card memory clock with over clocking tool. It happens because when GPU gets hot video card RAM starts suffering from synchronisation loss with GPU. That happens because in hot electronics electrons flow sower but all computers are based on timings. Let's say you have got 1Gb RAM on video card but it dynamic not static. Capacitor based RAM chips needed to be refreshed after certain amount of time or capacitor will loose charge. So GPU scrolls all addresses and reads info from capacitor cells and refreshes capacitor charge, witch has to be last till next read/write cycle. If in to some cells instead 0 or 1 gets written opposite, that is actually invalid instruction for GPU. That's why you see funny things on screen. If CPU has same problem then you will see instant BSOD, because it is critical for operating system. Best example of static RAM probably would be SSD, AKA information does not need to be overwritten constantly.
