  1. Jedi Shadow use a mix of lightsaber and force abilities. Jedi Sage use almost only force abilities. As for the story, it's about discovery of knowledge, unlike some (like soldier or knight, as far as I know) which are about hunt of the enemy. It's not for everyone's taste, but it's far from being bad. I'm almost at the end, and it's close to epic. I want to echo one of the above posters : if you played a republic character, consider swtiching side ; a breath of fresh air.
  2. I do very little PvP, so consider my advice with criticism. If you're dueling, I don't know ; however, for battlegrounds (mass PvP slaughter), I think a major advantage is the one that allows you to pick your fights : Stealth. Jedi shadows and Sith assassins are thus my advice. You move unnoticed, you spot your target, you alpha-strike it, you disappear. No other light-saber wielder can do that.
  3. We jedis throw pebbles. Them siths toss pure electric arcs of doom. Yet, we deal the exact same amount of damage, so who's the best ? Another angle to look at it is that we jedis chose the efficiency of optimizing the pebble throwing technique, while the superior lightning strike is only optimized from a psychological perspective. Meaning we jedis chose efficiency where siths chose coolness factor. Meaning we jedis are smarter. In the end, the dark side always lose.
  4. Yes. Shadow Kinetic jedi consulars are real tanks.
  5. Consulars wearing heavy armor ? This is SO not meant to be ! This is a crime against the Force ! Seriously, it might look tempting at first, but it would be impossible to balance. Take a look at Runes of Magic ; they did that, and the balance was bad.
  6. Vette > Kaliyo > Aric > Qyzen Qyzen could be mildly more interesting if he spoke our language. The others I haven't tried.
  7. I'm on Balmora with my operative (french back-translation : secret agent), on an infiltration mission within the balmorean resistance, when I notice a man (quest giver) wants to talk to me ; he's a civilian, unrelated to the resistance or the mission I'm doing. I've never seen him in my life, and he doesn't seem to have ever seen me. Nonetheless, he immediatly recognizes me as an imperial agent. Seriously, how come my cover is never blown, except when it doesn't matter ?
  8. But we have the Force with us. Combat technique adds 150% armor to our light armor, bringing us almost on par with the clunky knights and soldiers. I am a shadow tank, and I regularly succeed at killing things beyond me. Yesterday, I tanked an heroic 47 boss while I was 44, with not much trouble, and even compliments from my teammates in the end. When I got my last dps companion on Belsavis, I started using her instead of Tharan Cedrax. Lack of a healer is countered by significant dps increase. I achieve my own survival even against elites with minions. We shadow tanks are real tanks. We do excell at infiltrating the enemy, stealthing our way to the boss to assassinate it for the peace of the galaxy, but we are more than capable of carving our way through the many corpses of lesser and greater servants if the need arises.
  9. As far as I know, it's not a consular exclusive mission. Short answer : drop it, take it again, and do it as soon as possible. I've seen it reported bugged in the general channel in game. Suggestions given were to reset the quest, or drop it and take it again. Disconnecting-reconnecting while the quest is active seems to cause it to bug.
  10. My main is a shadow consular, and I'm also playing a soldier. But I also have an imperial agent. I want to try the stories and game mechanics of many classes. That way, the discovery phase of the game will last longer, and fresher.
  11. I have the opposite problem. Ever since Taris, i've always been at least 1 level lower than my target planet. Arrived 23 on Tatoiine, 30 on Balmora, and now 38 on Belsavis. I have no particular problem doing the quests (playing as a Shadow tank), killing mobs can be a little long, but not difficult. I even killed one of my class quest bosses at the beginning of Belsavis, a huge robot, without any problem. However, on Belsavis, I can't find the quests aside from my class quest, so I can't progress further. So now, I'm stuck doing space missions and flashpoints until i can catch up. For my reroll, a soldier, I'm being careful and doing the opposite (a far better alternative), and I reached Taris at level 18.
  12. Yes, my mistake. The 520 is slower than 530, which is slower than 550, etc. GT, GTX, Ti, all that, you can pretty much ignore, as long as you consider the numbers. In my eyes, it's pretty much a fancy title and nothing more.
  13. GeForce graphic cards are 3 numbers : XYZ. X is generation, Y is market range (and overall performance in the generation), and Z is ... unimportant for now. X the higher, the more recent. Y the higher, the faster the graphic card. Both Geforce 220 and 420 are low performance graphic cards, and both will have troubles running the game. I know, I'm playing the game with a 520, and barely at that. If you want a smoother run, try somehting like a 430, 530, or, if you can afford it, a 450 or 550. 580 or 590 would be best, but the price will be scary. [Edited to correct the "Y" the higher the better]
  14. That statement leaves me confused. DoT DpS classes are a little peculiar in that they can't offer a burst output, but are fairly convincing if the fight is long enough (generaly, for that matter, 15 seconds is long enough). They offer the significant advantage of mobility with minimal loss of DpS.
  15. He was referring to the assassin trees. Deception is Infiltration for us, and Madness is Balance. Those are the ways of a Jedi.
  16. I think this idea is good, even though I doubt it's entirely viable. Too much imbalance in my opinion. Nonetheless, I support it. Doubly so because constructive thinking should be encouraged.
  17. You don't need to uninstall it from your laptop in order to install it on your desktop computer. The installation itself is not bound to your account anyway.
  18. I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but the answer I can provide is : there's nothing stopping you from installing the game on any computer, no matter if it were installed and uninstalled on it previously.
  19. pre-ordered on 5th december, access validated today, 10 pm french time. Good luck everyone !
  20. Diplomacy. Only way to get compliments that I know of.
  21. My thanks to the original poster, even though it's a sad news for me (I registered my pre-order on december). My personal deduction was far less accurate, but using this simple piece of logic : Bioware is using the pre-launch to test the servers load. Considering this assessment, it would make sense to increase the load gradually, making saturday and sunday the two worst days (with weekends, more people are available to play), and providing monday for the team to recover from anything they might have done wrong (for example, add a server). Considering the calculations that were exposed on the first page, my guess and those numbers match. This seems consistent.
