Here is what we know so far. The tale in Rogue One is loosely based on Dark Forces, with some name changes for key characters. Jan Ors is now Jyn Erso, and Kyle Katarn is now Cassian Andor. Why they couldn't just use their original names is beyond me. Disney owns the rights to the Expanded Universe, which they acquired along with LucasArts. For some unknown reason, they're refusing to use any part of it for the new movies, though. At least in the MCU, they attempt to stay somewhat close to the comics. All that aside, I'll still go see the movie when it comes out this Dec.

Recent events suggest that Yoda is Tyrion Lannister's real father. Yoda was the first Imp, and we all know that Impin' ain't easy!

Oh well. I guess that Disney really is shelving pretty much everything from the old ExU. It might still be a good movie, though.

Twenty years of Star Wars Expanded Universe best-sellers would beg to differ. We'll have to wait until the movie comes out to be sure, though.

Here's the flaw in your logic. Disney wants to Keep The Fans Happy. They wouldn't be the entertainment juggernaut that they are, if they didn't. That means, for the fans of the old Expanded Universe, bringing familiar characters into the New Continuity. Jyn Erso is obviously Jan Ors. Kyle Katarn might undergo a subtle name change as well. Either way, the probability is high that we're getting two familiar ExU characters back in Rogue One. Granted, It's a LOT easier for Disney's Marvel comic book movies, since Marvel has a "multiverse" similar to DC's. Comic book fans accept the "reality" of those multiverses. Since Star Wars is only ONE universe, it makes the most sense for them, in Keeping The Fans Happy, to use old ExU characters in the New Continuity. If they ever decide to do some Old Republic era tales as movies or TV series, they could just use the established lore from the games and comics. On a side note, I'm REALLY glad that Disney doesn't own the rights to Deadpool. FOX, Tim Miller (The Overpaid Tool), and Ryan Reynolds (God's Perfect Idiot) did an awesome job with that movie! Disney would've tried to "clean it up" for the kids, and it would've lost a LOT in the translation!

Actually, the original Dark Forces had nothing to do with Jedi or the Force. Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was the one that made Kyle into a Jedi. Rogue One follows the events of the original.

Actually it was Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker they amalgamated into Ben Solo, AKA Emo Boy... err Kylo Ren. lol But yeah, they made him even more emo than Anakin and that one dude in Twilight put together.

I just report every goldspam email I get. Sooner or later, EA is going to have to enforce their EULA or risk having people unsub and stop playing. Those emails are annoying.

Whoa! Why all the negative waves? Stranger things have happened. It would be stupid of Disney to completely ignore the old Expanded Universe, as psandak said. To paraphrase, why throw away all of those great characters and tales? Since Kyle Katarn is one of the most popular, having him in a "Dark Forces" movie, which is basically what "Rogue One" is, would get a LOT of Expanded Universe fans, myself included, to give Disney the benefit of the doubt. They ticked off a lot of us when they declared the old ExU non-canon. As far as Clan Viszla goes, who says that Shae Viszla isn't a member? As I said in my ORIGINAL post, it remains to be seen which other elements of this game become canon in the future. Let's just wait and see.

It appears that Kyle Katarn lives on! After the Expanded Universe imploded with the advent of the New Continuity, it looked like a lot of our favorite characters died along with it. Disney has decided to bring some of those characters back, even if just mentioning them. In Rebels, Shae Viszla is now canon, and possibly the rest of TOR too. It remains to be seen if that's the case, though. The main female lead in Rogue One, Jyn Erso, which sounds quite a bit like Jan Ors, and even has the same backstory, is partnered up with a guy who is 99% probably Kyle. You can read the theory here. Ok, here's a big crafting issue for Artificers. Most of the new dye modules and the new hilts require Armstech construction components to create. Add it to your list and get it fixed ASAP please. At least you know about the new Relics already. Thanks!

Making sure that the new chapter wasn't buggy would have been a good start, at least. No company is perfect as far as new content bugs go. The closest is CCP with their EVE expacs, however. They do a lot of QA and put everything on Singularity (their Test Server) first. BW could learn a lot from them.

The servers were taken offline in order to fix a glitch with one of the Alliance recruitment missions that resulted in a serious issue with any characters that hadn't completed it yet. That was why they took the servers down, according to Eric Musco. It wasn't a network failure, unless you count faulty mission code that should have been detected and fixed during testing as a "network failure."

To BioWare: In order to avoid issues like what happened today with the servers, I have a few suggestions that you will want to take seriously. Keep in mind that I'm a Star Wars fan and I have loved every single BW game to date. So yes, I love SWTOR. When you are done coding the new expansions... 1) You have a Test Server. USE IT! Run your new expac through that Test Server to find and isolate bugs. Test it throroughly! 2) FIX the bugs. 3) Double and triple-check to make sure those bugs are FIXED! 4) Then, and ONLY then, release the new expansions to the public. Thank you.

I was going to play the new expansion today, but it looks like a good ol' Nullsec solo roam would be more fun. Or maybe I'll scan down a wormhole and mess with the occupants some. Hope you guys get the servers fixed soon. Fly safe! o7 Or maybe I'll work on my new novel. Whichever.
