  1. I know some players who really hate the (as they see it) ridiculously high prices mats can go for and will sell at very low prices just to make a point and maybe help a crafter out. also, it's not uncommon to see people under cut prices by a huge amount to make a quick sale or will list at the price the GTN suggests when you first place the items in the sales slot. I tend to look at these as rookie mistakes and am happy to snap up these deals a fast as I can. However, what is weird is the buying at a higher price and then re-posting at nearly half what they bought it for... very strange. I would think that they can't keep that up for long unless they have a huge credit reserve or make a lot of creds from other sources. because the markets will fluctuate (sometimes wildly) I think all you can do is ride this one out. maybe they are trying to make a point or just having fun upsetting the market for a while. if you can afford it, re-buy the mats at the lower price and then re-post at your normal price. see if they keep doing it. you'll get the price you're asking and won't have to spend as much time farming. a total win for you. again, I doubt they can keep this up long term but if you're careful and play it smart you might be able to turn this to your advantage - hope this helps and good luck -
  2. for a Guardian tank at your level I think it's the Deft mods ( the 'B' type ) you want. you're right there is not a huge difference in the stats, End is 2 or 3 points higher than Str. and for the Enhancements I think it's the 'Bastion' or 'Bulwark' types. they are kinda low on the End but stack shield, absorb or defense. by stacking shield, absorb and defense you can compensate for the low End. I don't have the game open atm so can't double check the names or stats. I think the reason is that, mostly at lower levels, you're running solo content and want to be able to do a fair amount of damage as well as take the hits so a balanced build is what the dev's are shooting for. plus, by stacking shield, absorb and defense you can more than make up for the relatively low endurance. most of the theory crafters seem to agree that stacking S, A and D is the way to go for tanks at this point and I can say that my lvl 53 Vanguard tank (trooper) does a lot better in all situations whit a high S, A, D set up than just stacking endurance. try these links for more info - Guardian Tank the link below is in the Vanguard class forum but scroll down to the section "what kind of tank am I? the info applies to all tanks and explains the S, A, D concept in more detail. What kind of tank am I? hope this helps and good luck -
  3. I just want to chime in here and say 'Thank You' to Bill_C for the post and to Wraiven for taking the time to prove Bill_C's claim. Well done! I had no idea that bots could mimic player behavior as well as that one did. if not for a actual person interfering with it's scripted behavior I don't think I would ever have realized what was happening. I have no idea how prevalent these types of bots are in this game but it clearly gives an unfair advantage to the account holder. obviously, if I have to grind for creds and gear I want the playing field to be as level as possible. must be nice to wake up in the morning a few 100k richer, and figure, night after night, week after week... it can add up fast. hopefully who ever is tasked with dealing with these 'bot' issues will step up and handle it. oh, and by the way, this is the perfect forum to post this issue in. whether we realize it or not, it does affect everyone who plays tor and a 'general discussion' on the subject is a good place to start.
  4. actually, it is a new issue as far as I know and was added to the known issues thread on the 20th of this month.
  5. anyone know? just wondering cause we don't get the pet and speeder until 10 days after it ends (if I'm reading it correctly). source at bottom of page. Thanks
  6. I hear what your saying, but in my experience (for the most part) the progress meters are fairly accurate. also, in this case it's not a matter of freezing as the the mego-byte ( ) counter is counting, just very very slowly. again, just curious as to why this happens.
  7. yeah, seems weird that to get to 97% will take 10 mins but the last 3% can take up to 20 to 30 minutes. I wonder if the file validation process or the re-organizing plays a part?
  8. as the title says. the launcher update seems to take 15 to 30 minutes to fully complete and it's always from 97% onward that takes the longest. from 0% to 97% takes 10 minutes at most (depending on patch size). not a complaint, just wondering is all. and yes I have the ST version of the launcher - thanks - edit - just asking as I wait for the last two patches to complete. from 97.23% to complete took 25 minutes. logging off to play -
  9. for both the poster in the quote and the OP I would strongly suggest writing down the exact amount of credits you have the moment you log in. then every now and then double check the amount again. if you buy something or send a comp on a gathering mission or lvl up, write down the new amount (even better, write down the amounts spent and what you spent it on). this is really the only way to be sure that you are the one doing the spending and it's not a bug or some mysterious credit thief hacking your account. (if I 'lost' 1.5 million credits in 15 minutes I'd really want to know wth happened) hope this helps -
  10. this ^ also, Current Players - third paragraph under Terms and Conditions. we got what we paid for. new content and early access. how many times have you bought a game when it first came out, at or near full price? only to find that 6 months later it's in the bargain bin for $19.95. do you deserve a refund under those conditions? it was 10 bucks for some nice content and 5 more levels for all our characters. sounds like a good deal to me.
  11. try - torhead also, the crew skill mentor ( where you buy new schematics ) at the top of the window select 'all' for both drop down menus, it'll show all the schematics you can learn from him. there may be different ones you can buy on the GTN but not sure about that.
  12. just to be clear the hard drive speed only affects the load times between areas. even the fastest ssd will only affect load times. it's gpu, memory and cpu in that order when it comes to actual performance in this game. -
  13. ok, where is this in the game? PvP?, PvE? - I don't remember ever seeing this before. (granted I haven't done any space missions in a long while nor PvP). any help identifying this would be appreciated. btw, interesting comparisons tho it makes sense that the designers would use the same or similar design elements to reinforce the look and feel of the game.
  14. this ^ I've read in many places the the 'intel' integrated graphics are not the best choice for any kind of gaming. in fact any integrated graphics are really a poor choice for gaming of any kind. just the nature of the beast. in very basic terms the graphics are 'built in' to the cpu so it must carry the entire processing load (processing and graphics rendering). 'dedicated' graphics means a separate processor that handles the graphics. from experience I can say that the 4th generation intel integrated graphics (intel HD 4600) can run the game but at the lowest settings for best performance. however, the intel graphics in your link is a low end 3rd generation option. I have also read that if you need to go with an integrated option AMD is a much better choice (again, this is just from what I've read on a few tech forums and articles). it seems that price may be a factor in your decision. if so, and only based on what I've read this might be a better option for your friend and her son. Best Buy btw, the only things you can upgrade on a laptop is memory and hard drives. the hard drive size in the link should be fine and the memory can be increased to 16 gigs (with memory more is better tho bumping up to 8 gigs would probably be good enough). lastly, with any laptop you will always pay more for less when compared to a desk top PC. sorry if I've offered information you already know, just wanted to give a more detailed point of view. best of luck - Edit: I see you posted in the general forum as well. this option that was suggested is a nice choice for the price Amazon just an fyi edit -
  15. both ideas have merit though I think idea 1 has the same end game problem in that once you have the infinite use item there's no need to buy it again thus depressing the end game crafting market ( a long term result of infinite use items ). Idea 2 is a great idea and the one that seems to solve the problem. 250 uses and not bound to a specific craft would open up the items to every class, allow everyone to have the same combat advantage and bolster the end game crafting market. the obvious draw back is these 'high use' items would be controlled by just 2 crafting professions. an unfair advantage for Bio and Cyber. the only solution I can see is adding at least 1 high use item to each of the crafting professions. what these items might be...? I have no idea. other than leaving things the way they are, the suggestions Dyvim make are the best I've seen so far. (apologies for the edit Dyvim, I wanted to drill down to your core suggestions) -
  16. I think this is a case of - 'as advertised' - to my knowledge it does not affect the crit chance of resource/materials missions. nor does it affect the crit chance of crafting 2 items instead of one. best of luck -
  17. many thanks Color's, my day just got a little brighter - be well and thx again
  18. lol I thought I'd report this little bug, be the first and here I find 3 pages ahead of me - for me it is the saberwasp and I've sent an in game bug report as well. now that I notice the sound it is kind of annoying, so much so that I won't use that speeder until it's fixed... bummer
  19. just my two cents. - I finished the class story at lvl 46 (only two lvl's above where your assassin is now) as a tank assassin. I haven't played him in months but can say that as a tank they can hold their own in any situation. as the other poster said (I do not pretend to know the class really well) use your tank or heal comp's rather than a dps comp, makes a huge difference. I never tried the madness tree so can't help with that. anyway, best of luck -
  20. as the other poster said there is no hood 'toggle' function atm. however there are quite a few social vendor items that look nice and some specialty vendors have chest pieces without hoods. also, some of the adaptive gear will work as well. (check the GTN or take a look at the cartel market to see some of what's available) (some of the Consular gear has no hood by default too) Tweelik's because of their head shape will by default have no hood showing though some of the head pieces will work on them. EDIT: actually there are a few head pieces that will toggle the hood down but everyone of them I've seen are full head pieces in that they hide the face as well. my sith has one tho can't remember the name of the piece atm.
  21. actually there is no cartel coin purchase option atm, at least no option that I can find. I agree it is odd as most other legacy unlocks have that option. however, if you get all 3 fleet pass unlocks and are a sub then the cool down is reduced to zero. source at bottom of page.
  22. I hear you, but as an example, in star trek online the PvE space combat can be a lot of fun and the PvP combat is great. different games? of course. but STO shows what off the rails space combat can be like in both PvE and PvP mmo environments. hopefully the sssp lives up to all the hype. I'm looking forward to finding out.
  23. what is this n.g.e. of which you speak? could it be? - n.g.e. or this? - n.g.e. or maybe this? - n.g.e. google can be fun - no matter what BioWare does some people some where will make up some reason to complain. if for no other reason than to complain if nothing else the employment ad shows BioWares commitment to swtor and it's growth as a triple A mmo. space combat in a PvP environment? now that sounds cool - - almost wish I lived in Austin...
  24. the short answer is possibly. the fact that it did run fine until 2 weeks ago is an important clue. what have you installed, updated or changed since it last ran well? (if anything). check that your firewall and router port settings haven't changed. flush the DNS cache use your task manager to see what programs are hogging resources. also, look at the start up programs and decide which ones can be disabled. consider installing more memory (4 gigs is on the low side). run memtest to check your ram. heat degradation is a possibility. the link below offers some basic info and links to diagnose overheating. diagnose overheating laptop run a benchmark tool to see if your hardware can still handle the loads (if nothing else it can put that question to rest) Benchmark tools I use prime95. there are many other things i could suggest though without knowing more it's really hard to trouble shoot your issue. bottom line, it could be one of the things I've listed or it could be something else entirely. a lot of people get bad lag in WZ's (fleet chat is full of complaints on shadowlands server) that it started 2 weeks ago for you is interesting. fyi, don't bother uninstalling / reinstalling the game. if anything you might try deleting DiskCachArena file or the BitRaider folder. the game will automatically rebuild both and verify the install (I don't think either is necessary but put it out there anyway). I run the game on a win 8 gaming laptop and aside from some micro stuttering here and there the game runs fine for me. I almost didn't buy this lappy because of win 8 but thought wth and after a very short learning curve I'm quite happy with win 8. no compatibility issues, has proved to be very stable and it is very fast compared to win 7. hope at least something I've posted helps you and good luck -
