  1. It was going strong until they decided to totally change the game. It's a reason why there is a SWG-emulator which is under development and why they have 67.000 members on their site. People want the old game back, before the changes. And improve it by adding contents. The reason why the game never become real popular because no one never heard about it. No one in Europe had ever heard about SWG or seen commercials about it. It was just pure luck that i found the game myself. The reason why WoW become so popular its because of Blizzards previous Warcraft games and Blizzard is known for making big titles and also there was a BIG hype around WoW before it was released.
  2. Atm is under development and they've made a lot of progress lately. There is only 4000 active members. But there are 67.000 registered members on their site.
  3. ***? Poor graphic in SWG? The game came early 2003. To be honest i think SWG has better graphics than SWTOR. But SWTOR do have better architecture and details to structures. Also i like the world/terrain design/details better in SWTOR even tho the graphic looks a bit blurry and cartoonish. SWG + Innovative unlike SWTOR which reminds a lot about WoW. Many WoW players have commented that SWTOR is very like WoW which in many ways are very true. SWG isn't linear like SWTOR and WoW. In SWG you don't have levels but skillstrees, you don't follow one path since there is many many different ways to reach your goals. You don't even have to participate in PvP or PVE to become something big in SWG. You could be a known armorsmith, architecture, tailor or something instead and become very known and rich. + Graphic (Most people didn't have computers that could run this game on medium) The graphics were pretty good when the game was fresh. Unlike SWTOR the weather could change also between day/night. Which added a more realistic atmosphere. ++ Housing/Playercities (It was just amazing, you could actually build a city with cantina, clone center, malls, shuttleport and everyting. Playercities were used by guilds and where always filled with some people) ++ Crafting (Notes: Place Harvester/Factories, Vendors owned by players, almost everything was made by different kind of crafters, dedicated crafters didn't need to have combat toons since the become rich just by crafting. Crafters could make stims/meds, droids, clothes, armor, vehicles, weapons, structures... ++ Tight Community (You had to interact with other people if you wanted to succeed) Well you could pay for more accounts and then create characters which could grind up different professions with and provide yourself with stuff, but then you won't get the best gear, the best buffs/stims.... I've never seen such a tight community SWG in any other MMORPG games. SWG is known to have a very good community which games like WoW and such can't match. This isn't not only a subjective opinion but i believe most people that have been playing SWG a bit or everyone won't see any other communities like they have in SWG. I felt like a loner in WoW i also do that in SWTOR, when you lvl to 50 in SWTOR most of the time you are alone doing your quests and stuff. And when you first group in SWTOR you can't get a bigger group than 4, I mean *** im used to have groups up to 20, 4 is nothing. When you buy or sell stuff you don't have to interact with others, you don't have to interact with people when doing quests or getting buffs or if you need equipments. In SWG the market and the economy was driven by the players. Even an armorsmith had to get components which only a tailor could make. You usually had different contacts in SWG which you knew and could provide you most of the things that you needed. If you had to get new contacts you could either search for them on the bazaar and or check the Trade Forums which each server had. SWG also had gathering points for guilds which was guild cities. In WoW and SWTOR there is a lot of guild members I haven't seen since, you never meet them... + Great PvP (Galactic Civil War was incredible good, you could place faction bases almost everywhere. But most guilds had their own factionbase in their own cities so it was protected by them. With faction points you could buy different kind of faction bases, you could also buy different kind of NPCs, minefields, turrets, alarm to protect your faction base. There was a lot of big scales battles were rebellions raided an imperial city or otherwise. Bounty Hunters could also hunt other players no matter which faction they were, if you had high bounties on you or if a jedi revealed himself. Like using a lightsaber in public. + Jedi as Alpha class (Interesting, Innovative. I think it was a fair system. I took a lot of effort to become a jedi, a full template high ranked jedi could probably kill 10-20 men alone. But it was almost impossible to get there and if the jedi died 3 times his character where permanently dead. Jedi's was usually hiding from the public, if a jedi was using force powers, wearing lightsaber or robe in public he would VIS (Visibility) Which means the jedi would automatically be added to the Bounty Hunter terminals and could therefor be hunted. The only way to remove himself from the terminal is being slaughtered of bounty hunter/'s or get killed by one/them. + Different Factions can live together and also live in peace if wanted (In the larger cities like the capital of Corellia, Coronet or Naboo, Theed it was a lot of Imperials and Rebellions walking around probably trading and buffing each other, without any conflicts. But as Imperial and Rebellion you could go on duty (PvP) and become an active Special Force (Overt) and hunt others which also choose to go PVP. + Sandbox + Open Planet ( The Planets are huuuuge! And many of them you can build almost anywhere, and there is also a lot of interesting places to explore) ++ Space is well made (You can fly around in space and explore it, since your ship are not on rails like in SWTOR. You can both PVE (Escort and regular missions) and PvP in space, spaceships can heavily be customized, larger ships can also have furniture inside and items. So you can decorate your just like how you like it. You can also mine asteroids with miningship) - The game feels unfinished at release. It lacks contents, but it has a lot of potential. -- Lack of contents (Themeparks/Quests/Storyline) In the beginning when the game was still not broken SOE added a few great contents to SWG, but then they started to focusing on balancing the game by nerfing everything, then they made a big overhaul which changed the combat gameplay, which also made things much more balanced, which most people got used after a while. But SOE was still not happy so they reduced the 36 professions into 6 classes. And made the combat more like WoW. So everyone left, only a few stayed. Then SOE started to focus on contents once again instead of nerfing things. And they actually managed keep a stable playerbase to the end... - Some classes are unbalanced? Like Commando and Creature Handler are weaker than other classes. - Jedi as Alpha class some people think they are dominating too much, and its too hard to become one , even it fits the timeline... There were only a very few that were jedis. Would you say the graphics are bad to be a game from 2003? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/Hitman23/SWG/Mando.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/Hitman23/SWGemu/screenShot0771.jpg http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v157/Hitman23/SWGemu/screenShot1210.jpg SWG Player city and houses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VeLum8CUTc&feature=related SWG Animations/Sound Effects are also from the game (Yeah the say ouch when they get hit badly): SWG in Space:
  4. I must say its weird that the game don't have a LoD (Level of Details) manager which can be toggled on/off.
  5. Won't even let me access as solo... It says i've got an active flashpoint and that i have to reset it. When i do so, nothing happens. I've tried to abound the mission and take a new one. But I still get the same message and won't let me in.
  6. Star Wars Galaxies. A game with great social and crafting aspects which no other MMO games can match <3. Also the PVP is some of the best i've been playing. But then again SWG was a sandbox game with many opportunities and it could better if they didn't have a horrible marketing and didn't make major changes to the gameplay like NGE.... I mean i've never seen any kind of commercial of SWG before, the only reason i found the game was because i was talking to some friends on Ventrilo. It isn't weird it didn't sell so good when people haven't heard anything about it. Instead of changing the combat system they've should have added more themeparks and contents. Just like they did before the game got shut down... One of the reason why WoW was so successful is because of their previous popular games like the Warcraft serie and Diablo plus great marketing. The hype gave them a huge player base which also make the game develop faster... In Themepark games like SWTOR and WoW everything is instanced and very limited. And you don't really need to interact with others. And the PvP is small and monotonous. But maybe thats why those game are so popular because they're easy... Hopefully BW will do something with the social aspects. Even do it won't be like SWG i still want a tight community. In SWG you had to interact with others, if you wanted clothes, armor, buffs you had to find a Doctor, Entertainer, Tailor, Armorsmith and so on... Most people had a specific profession which they were specialized on. There are total 36 professions in SWG you could maximum have 3 professions on 1 character + pilot profession. In Playercities people could have houses, cantina, guildhall, shuttle port, clone center, mission terminals, statues. gardens. lightning, faction bases with guarding NPC's, minefield, turrets that could be bought for faction points. There was vendor inside some of houses if they were crafters. Guilds also had malls where different crafters had their vendors inside. If you wanted to buy items from others you had to visit the bazaar which could be found in major/capital cities (NPC cities). Where you could search for items which was displayed what was for sale. If you wanted to buy that item you to click on get waypoint which told you which and where on the planet it could be found. If you wanted something custom made like choosing color on your armor or if you wanted the best gear you could contact a known crafter on the server . Or go to the official forum and then make a request on the trade forum. Well you could buy stuff from the Bazaar but it had a price cap at 20 000 credits so if you wanted to sell valuables you had to have vendors.
  7. Hobbits are small Yoda is small... And he looks like Smeagol. Maybe Smeagol is a darkside hobbit and Yoda a lightside one? Then Yoda have to be a hobbit!
