  1. Permanent choices are more fun? What rubbish. If you don't want to ever change your spec, then how does someone elses ability to do so affect you? Fun aside, it's silly to permanently commit points to an ability that you might not even understand until you've tried it out. Not every ability is simple math and obvious changes. Some things just have vague descriptions that you won't understand fully until you try them out. On top of that, this is an MMO. Every MMO tweaks/changes things like this on a regular basis. Your commitment isn't only to a choice you've made, it's to future choices that developers will make. It's hard to avoid commenting on the kind of people that would impose this sort of rule on other players if they could.
  2. The last few days I've been getting random latency issues as well. I'll be sitting fine at 72ms or so for hours, then I'll start spiking to red every couple minutes. Sometimes I'll have to close the client, other times it will come back for a minute or two. I'm also playing on a west coast server.
  3. I lolled at work when I read this. On topic, I agree. Jumped in at 10 and had fun. Friend started the game after me and I played with him even though I'm 30 now. Beats the hell out of games where so much time is spent prepping your character(s).
  4. I dig it. It's a great break from the normal pace of regular missions here and there.
  5. 9/10... not flawless, but I haven't geeked over an MMO experience like this in a long time
  6. I think it's common knowledge/practice that games with rivals get trash reviews on metacritic.
  7. Find the orange dot datacron and you will unlock the knowledge and the power.
  8. Just out of curiosity, do you really anticipate end-game gear making that much of a difference once someone goes from 49 to 50? I honestly haven't looked at the stats that much, but I wasn't under the impression that it was going to be as drastic an upgrade as it is in other MMOs, and fairly watered down by the bolster system.
  9. I'd be all for cash rewards, titles, cosmetic stuff, consumables... you name it. In my experience, the people petitioning for rewards are typically the people that really want gear for it, not the rewards listed above. I don't think you'd really find many people opposed to non-gear rewards.
  10. At least this post is good for demonstrating the oil/water nature of arena/anti-arena people.
  11. It's not what I want. Just because pandas are apparently the best idea for the future majority of one game doesn't mean that I want to see pandas in every game I play. Being in the majority alone doesn't make someone right. It doesn't mean it's the best group for a business to cater to either. I disagree. I'd say one of the biggest problems with WAR was that everyone sat in towns and queued for the same BGs each tier to farm rank/gear instead of actually going out into the world to PvP--near release when they lost most of their people anyway. There were reasons to go outside but nobody did because they followed the better maths method of farming (even though they got sick of doing the same thing 100x over) right up until the day they quit. That's just another debate entirely. I imagine we would actually agree on a lot of points here, but you would probably inevitably quit an MMO where I was happy at end-game and vice versa.
  12. People seem to think that there are a lot of IWIN buttons based on previous MMO baggage.
  13. I'm a hardcore gamer and I like keeping PvP as even as possible. If you want to compete/better yourself you don't handicap your opponent. When PvP becomes about gear instead of enjoying the actual gameplay then you end up with a love/hate demand for "content" in the form of better maths on items. Then you end up creating a greater gap between new players (the life-blood of healthy PvP), and veterans who not only have more knowledge, but now a significant gear advantage as well. Then you end up trivializing this previously prestigious gear by creating higher tiers of gear that are easier to get in order to try to close the gap between new and old players. If it all gets recycled like this you might as well just wipe the server every so often and start over. It's just rehashed crap. I understand that kids are fond of this DBZ style power level increasing scheme, but some of us actually just like to PvP because it's fun... or at least it can be if it's not turned into a tedious grocery shopping list for items that enable you to play on an equal level with some and totally demolish others. To some in this generation that's what an MMO is all about... FYI, that is definitely not what everyone wants.

    PvP Changes List

    - Maintain the team after a warzone ends, reinviting is annoying Yes, no reason not to - Winning and losing in Huttball is not very different, the winning team needs to get way more points than the losing team. Maybe the case for all the warzones? No, but it doesn't really matter - Allow players to queue with a full team of 8 people No, not for regular warzones anyway - Rated Warzones Maybe, depends on implementation and might be good for full teams. None of this rated gear season rank crap - Brackets for Warzones No, bolstering all levels and same-server warzones is the system for this MMO - Diminishing returns on CC in PvP Maybe, need a lot more time with level 50 world/warzone PvP to decide
  15. Best BG system in an MMO to date, IMO. Perhaps I'm in the minority here... but hey, if the majority wants to be able to play a panda in an MMO then I'm glad to be in the minority.
  16. If that's the case then personally I'm cool with it as well.
  17. Nothing about this game is hardcore, (not that I want to be). When you die you have to wait a few seconds to res in place with no penalty. Why people would want a hardcore [anti-]respec system in a game like this is beyond me. Could you really even tell if someone else respecced 5 times or 500 times by playing with or against them? Hmm they seem oddly effective.. they must be a RESPECCER! Completely absurd.
  18. I'll concede that it probably depends more on your AC, but let me show you an example as a Saboteur Gunslinger... At level 10 a Gunslinger has: Aimed Shot: 2s cast DPS, 4856-5771 damage, 15s cooldown Charged Burst: 1.5s cast DPS, 1533-1875 damage, no cooldown Between level 21 and level 40 here are all of the PvP abilities a Saboteur can get, (baseline smuggler abilities included): Sweeping Gunfire: 4s channelled cone DPS, 2106-2574 damage, no cooldown Dodge: 3 seconds of 100% evasion, 1min cooldown Flourish Shot: 20% armor debuff for 45 seconds Sabotage: Sabotage - instant DPS/cooldown finisher, 505-601 damage, must follow Shock Charge Defense Screen: Damage absorb shield, 45 second cooldown (sorry don't have the absorb amount, but this is more about damage anyway) Speed Shot: 3s channelled DPS, 3248-3976 damage, 15s cooldown Incendiary Grenade: Instant AoE DPS, 1266-1650 damage over 18 seconds, 18 second cooldown I'm not going to list every talent in the tree, but this includes some base damage boosting, primarily: +15% AoE damage +30% AoE Critical damage This is over a span of 20 levels, including the top of one tree. So far I've gotten 30+ kills in some BGs, and you know what the vast majority of the damage came from? Charged Burst. A level 1 Smuggler skill that isn't even boosted by the tree I chose. Look at the DPS on the additional abilities I get compared to Charged Burst, realize there are energy limitations, and most importantly factor in casting time. I realize this is a LOT more to factor in here, but I'm just trying to show that in my little world I haven't exactly been looking forward to the ability that was drastically going to change my PvP game.
  19. 41 points actually, but yeah basically an entire tree, I get that. Maybe some tank classes get some 31pt temp invulnerability ability that would have made all the difference, but everyone else is going to die because it's 3 on 1. People are crying about getting killed by 50s at level 10 and I don't think they really know what abilities were used on them or what could have saved them if they were higher level. I bet most of the time they're getting killed by bread-and-butter DPS abilities that people got very early on and they're just immediately chalking it up to a level difference.
  20. What exactly do you think you would get by level 50 that would so greatly increase your survivability against 3 people of any level focusing you?
  21. Its comments like these that make me wonder if people even understand how stats work in SWTOR BGs.
  22. Good luck getting to decent PvP in Aion, it's going to take you a while. Personally, the best world PvP I've had in games had nothing to do with yet another reward treadmill. Vanilla WoW had tons of open world PvP with no reward. No achievements, no marks/gear, no money, nothing... and yet there were even frequent city raids on my server just for the fun of it. I'm all for world pvp gameplay features... objectives are the only thing that makes a BG into something other than a team deathmatch. But if it's just about rewards for more carrot-stick, never-ending gear upgrades that just create a bigger gap for new blood in PvP then I hope they never come.
  23. Or: its always going to be unbalanced to some degree, and we like this stat normalizing approach
