  1. I would like to register my extreme disatisfaction with the current level of support for our "regional" servers. In my mind there is no point in having them because our ping was fine to the US servers and our prime time is still interrupted. I will now go and cancel my subscription to emphasize this point.
  2. It should clue you in that World of Warcraft still updates on Tuesday nights during our prime time. Under Bioware's "Copy WoW" policy.../cough what I meant was it makes more economic sense to give Australians/Asians a lower level of service
  3. Obi-wan outright yells at Anakin "You were my brother!" The agony of mind that Obi-wan would have been realistically experiencing would have given him a "mind-wipe" - aka, he wasn't thinking by this point. He'd just defeated his former student, greatest friend and fellow-general of the Republic. Not as a master defeats his student or a trainer defeats a learner, but in martial combat where the stakes were life. He won, and he didn't want to. He most certainly did NOT want to further deface the corpse of his fallen comrade. **Woot, I did it, I used the word "realistically" about a movie with LIGHTSABERS, SPACE-CRAFT and ALIENS!!!** /happy About the whole Anakin/Padme thing - people stay in relationships after far worse things are done to THEM and justify it to themselves. Anakin was protective of his master and anything put in his responsibility and took that VERY seriously. As far as we can tell she was his first love interest so compliments were always going to be awkward for him. He was also a Jedi, and they don't grow on trees you know. Meh, in my opinion she totally got the wrong dude, but Obi-Wan was WAAAAAAAY over HER grade. Like, as in, mountains over the Mariana Trench WAAAAY over. Don't judge.
  4. I'd change it to grouped instances. Like LoL. A bit of 5v5 against players/AI. Tower defense. Maybe like a mini Wintergrasp where you struggle for control of a dungeon/fortress. Actually, that'd be fun - dungeon crawls against other players. 20 v 20, just a massive dungeon full of credit boxes and a new Dungeon Token you can turn in for stim packs and other buffs/recharges/limited ammo weapons. It's space, so maybe add in a few of those Quake maps. Add a third faction of terrorists who just want to kill everyone in the dungeon, implement traps, booby trapped credit boxes, randomized bosses swooping in and slaughtering any unfortunates in their way. Heck, just turn it into LoL Extended Edition.
  5. I am going to give this game a chance and keep subbing for a few months. It feels dead and non-interactive to me, plus there's nothing enormously special about the environments. The War is disconnected (it's not even a war!) and there's nothing else going on. I'm level 28 and so far the conflict is...me and friends vs the Empire we never see? In WoW there was a third NPC faction - dragons, demons, and a lich king. In SW:TOR...nothing. Don't take this as a flame, a criticism. It's sort of a lackluster 'meh' toward MMO's. I expected SWTOR to be awesome, and it was merely good. ~my opinion
  6. This isn't related to SW:TOR except in the "Can't help phishing scams" aspect. So I was a WoW raider right, and liked seeing how good my gear was compared to the other raiders on my server. One day I'm on wowhead and there's a link to wowarmory so I click it. Except it was an ad. And it turns out it probably wasn't wowarmory. I got to the part where you type your character name and it came up with "Sorry, this is the first time your character has been loaded on this server, please enter account credentials for us to bring all your characters over at once." Well I knew wowarmory was a Blizzard website so I did. BAM! NAKED CHARACTERS! Also, 5K gold. Just sayin'. It's not always people doing the wrong thing - unless you count comparing epeens as the wrong thing. Come to think of it, you guys have a point...
  7. Never lagged there - did have some slow-downs on Taris and Nar Shaddaa, but setting graphics to low and back to high always immediately fixed the issue.
  8. That's awful - I would leave the server because as you say, there's no hope of anything being done. I agree with the many others here that nothing will be done, because "it's the culture" or "it's MMO's" or "welcome to the internet" - as harsh as they are, they have a tiny little point, no responsibility for actions takes away the fear of performing such actions. What they SHOULD do, in my opinion, is have an automated monitoring server. They already scan chat, just add a feature - swear or say sexually-inappropriate content in the chat and receive two warnings and then a 15-minute disconnect. It's how we operated on IRC back in the day when we manually (or botted) moderated the chat rooms. Two warnings and you're out. Mistakes are tolerated, repeated mistakes indicate lack of brain functionality. I'm not saying every server, I'm saying one, max two servers. I'd re-roll, I hate swearing. It's an inefficient form of communication :> Think about it: "**** off" vs. "You, sir, are a bully and a cad."
  9. Seriously. Han Solo and Chewbacca were a TEAM. C3-PO and R2-D2 were a TEAM. Obi-Wan and Anakin were a TEAM. Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader were a TEAM. I think you'll find in Star Wars that the "solo" operators generally died! Darth Maul, Count Dooku and Mace Windu all refused to use their companions and where are they?
  10. Oh...oh god, I think he's on fire, he's burning right up xDDD Good post, OP, I think some of your ratings are too generous and some should have hit 10/10 but overall for what it's worth the game is definitely an 8.5/10 on the "Doing things right" scale. Frankly, I wondered how they'd keep me away from WoW after I invested so heavily in that game with 5 85's, every profession, etc etc. Making everything a cake-walk was the RIGHT decision if they wanted to keep me, and they did. Apparently, my kind are important to them =P
  11. Pretty much my thoughts - I'm going to do some testing with CoreTemp to make sure because I think if a segment of the community believes something that's so easy to test then I may as well look before I dismiss. However, my motherboard warning temps are all set at the lowest and it's never warned/crashed.
  12. Soooo...run that by me again. I'm running my CPU at recommended levels (it's an i7 2600 as well), and you say it's not producing excessive heat or working ridiculously. You're running a CPU beyond its recommended parameters and experiencing heat problems. *scratches head* This is Bioware's problem?
  13. Your first post in this thread told me everything I needed to know. You claimed an i7 2600 at 4.4GHZ - aka, according to my wiki investigation on i7 2600's you've overclocked it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_microprocessors To be on these forums complaining about heat issues is an insult to the developers. To continue is an insult to the community.
  14. So instead of complaining about such behaviour you're going to make them your role model? Brilliant. It's a vicious spiral you're jumping into there - you'll always find WORSE players to make yourself worse than. You know you can leave groups politely right? "Sorry guys, I love the story in this game and want to watch it. Best of luck, cya out in the world!" Feel free to use that exact wording - tell 'em the guy on the forum authorized you to politely leave any group you want. There, you've been liberated from having to play with people with different goals.
  15. Atton makes a comment in KOTOR2 to the effect that he thought the Jedi frowned on them as Sith instruments. That's the only thing in the KOTOR series I remember against dual-wielding or using a double-blade. I think, as a philosophy, double-blades are viewed simply for killing others, whereas the Jedi believe a lightsaber is a tool, therefore a single blade should suffice. Whatever the case, the future Obi-Wan throws his lightsaber to Anakin who then dual-wields - if the council forbid it/disliked it/taught against it wouldn't that make Obi Wan another agent of Anakin's demise, leading him to reject the teachings of the Jedi Order? ;> They're all wrong - REAL Jedi wield TWO double-bladed lightsabers with another one in their TEETH! (Yes, they still wear dresses)
  16. That doesn't invalidate my point, it just adds complexity to it. See, if they'd gone my way with making it credit-based you'd have a legitimate argument, but at the moment the "only" complaint is that there is a small time penalty for taking up port space - very minimal at that. Anyway, if the developers remove all penalties for owning a spaceship that's cool - I'm not here to make the game any slower/harder for myself! Bioware, this breaks my game, FIX IT!!! ^__^
  17. Monty Python did it best: Community Letter 1: Dear Sir, I wish to complain about the disgraceful state of the game. Yours sincerely, OP Community Letter 2: Dear Sir, I wish to complain about the previous letter complaining about the game. The problem is clearly with the previous writer. Yours sincerely, A Concerned Reader Community Letter 3: Dear Sir, I wish to complain about the previous letter complaining about the previous author. In my opinion, the author of the previous letter clearly felt superior. Yours sincerely, A Sympathetic Reader See how it goes? I love reading these threads because in every one of them that skit plays in my head and it's awesome ^____^
  18. I just wanted to say - this system (provided it stays server-locked) would be perfectly acceptable to me. I dislike the random LFG finder, but by removing the 'Random' nature of it would also remove all my problems with it.
  19. Helps my immersion - you see, port space isn't free. You don't own that docking pad. In my opinion there should be a docking fee, then a fee every hour your ship stays in port. That would be immersive, but in leiu of that I'll take the ship exit/entry cutscene.
  20. I read your entire post, you have some good opinions, absolutely. My issue is that you titled it as if you were a professional. I know you cited some figures, but let me challenge them with what the market believes - "EA shares are up more than 30% for the year to date, though they have slipped about 17.5% from a three-year high of $26.13 on Nov. 4. Still, the stock has easily outperformed its peers in the game sector in 2011." http://www.marketwatch.com/story/electronic-arts-bets-empire-on-star-wars-2011-12-13 Graph here: http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/EA Don't know how much faith I'd put in marketwatch myself but the Nasdaq is reporting some crazy positive figures for EA compared to the industry: http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/ea/analyst-research This is only quick research but seems to indicate most analysts are forecasting positively for EA.
  21. Fear leads to the dark side, OP. Post your specs you must. Before you ask - I run a RAID beside a SSD so I'll never see your problems on my main rig. Try a defrag - use Defraggler to analyse your disk at least. What RPM is your drive? Try: 1) Disable your virus scanner 2) Ping google from command prompt (type 'cmd' into the search/run box then 'ping http://www.google.com' 3) Check the clock on your PC matches the time on your watch, then run the game. As soon as you encounter the slowness issue check the time on your watch, Alt-tab and right-click your "Computer" icon, select "Manage". Navigate to the error log and see if there's anything in any of the logs at the time your slow-down happened. Perhaps a process is kicking off every ten minutes or something? 4) Speaking of processes, go into the Task Manager (Right click your Start bar/task bar and select "Task Manager" or CTRL-ALT-DEL and select Task Manager). Sort by CPU and check if anything is excessively using your PC apart from the SW exe, then sort by "Memory" and see if anything is sucking the system resources If you've done all that already, it might be time to start thinking about editing your INI files to see if you can lower view-distance or something. The less it has to load the faster it should be - in theory.
  22. Arrogant nonsense - he provided no references and expected everyone to take him at his word. He can say whatever he wants about any company and we all swallow it? Never. Until he can provide a list of references and clean up his writing style to a professional standard his opinion is just that. I'm tempted to forward his little "Professional Analyst" post over to Goldman Sachs and see if I hear anything back. I know the response already though - "Thanks for your email, we cannot verify the post's origin and this company does not endorse the author. The opinions presented are his/her own and not the opinions of this company." with perhaps a "Please consider the environment before printing this email" and a list of legalese about distributing said email. I live in the real world of balance sheets, profit and loss and management accounting. I currently design and develop accounting software for the furniture industry, marketing/consumer relations isn't my strong point - but while marketing/consumer relations may affect sales it's the cold hard figures that matter. I suggest we wait until we see the half-yearly report from EA (unless they don't do that in America) - we'll then have some weight behind our arguments that don't depend on the unprofessional, unresearched opinions of a forum user who didn't even give his name. This company will not fail if they have 500K subscribers, and will turn a profit for the company. I.E. It will provide an acceptable return on investment, making it worth continuing to invest in The Old Republic.
  23. OP, you've been very naughty. With credentials like you claim I was expecting a researched, referenced professional article worthy of being published in a financial publication. Instead, all I got was the opinions anyone with business knowledge could form, written in a nineMSN news article style. Very disappointed.
  24. I have the same issues - haha, I just realised that I was going to say I have this issue in other games, but the only game I have that has this issue is Battlefront II - a Star Wars game. My PC sound card might hate lightsabers I do agree, though, 90% of the time I have no music (which is a damn shame because I love SW-style music) and normally my speeders make no noise - the only thing that never fails to make a sound is combat. Blasters and light sabers all make appropriate sounds. 90% of the time the opponent makes no sound, and when they do it's kind of wierd "EEEK, AAAAAH, OOOOH" and they're being slashed with a lightsaber >_> Errrr, moving along now. Oh, and another thing - speeders always make sounds if someone ELSE is riding them. I hear the "WEEZZZZEEEEEEEE, WHOO..." with no "SHHH" on the end because it cuts out too quickly when they pass you. Sometimes (like on Taris) the silence is quite eerie - maybe it's meant to be like that, a dead planet. Tattooine is desert, so again, maybe silence was their intention? Doesn't break the game for me as I NORMALLY play my own music in games anyway, but I am slightly disappointed with it as I was looking forward to the music.
  25. I think this is the best summary of how I felt about the random dungeon finder I have ever seen or heard. You put my thoughts into words. Like many others here by the sounds of it, I was there when WoW brought in the dungeon finder. I was excited about it! Now I didn't have to wait for a guild tank (timezone differences etc) just so that we could faceroll content. I could get some other guild's tank who was looking for a healer and we could faceroll content, say thanks, and get back to dailies/rep grinds. What really happened? For about three months it was like that - everyone was polite, they didn't quit after a single wipe, nobody ninja'd gear. Then, it seems, everyone realised that Blizzard was not going to police it at all. Players ninja'd anything they wanted, were excessively rude to other players, and seemed to think grouping with guildies suddenly became an excuse to be totally obnoxious. You know, even after LFD came out, I never ever encountered those problems in a guild group? Not ever, even once. People BEHAVED like humans when they knew there could be consequences - even if the consequence was simply to find a new guild and possibly be a subject of public shame from their prior guild (and believe me, most GM's and raid leaders in guilds I've been in DO watch and find where their ex-members went and if the player left for a bad reason they warn the players new guild leadership).
