  1. Hm, reading up on the Jedi Shadows on Wookieepedia, they sound more like Inquisitors and less like Gray Guards, in that Inquisitor types see the world in black and white where as Gray Guard types see it in shades of gray and follow an "ends justify the means" philosophy.

The Gray Jedi or the Imperial Knights are closer to your characters and really, that's a matter of how you play the Jedi Knight class both in story or in roleplay... Sorry, but it takes more than just a belief to make a class. You need a game mechanic, weapons, what stats they would use, etc etc

  2. I'm a classic Star Wars storyteller, but I try to avoid ALL the cliche's, notably the fact that this IS Star Wars as well. Millions of stories affect the galaxy, but the focus should never be on you, even when you are the hero of YOUR particular story. At the moment that focus is on Satele Shan, and "the Hero of Tython" which makes sense. But me personally, I like stories that PROGRESS. IE. GO BEYOND THE CANTINA. And tell a complete story instead of everyone sitting around. Yes, static cantina RP is okay, but when that's ALL there is, and anything progressive past that requires a GUILD, it makes you wonder if there is anything remotely resembling the classic "chance encounters lead to thrilling adventure" trope that, as cliche as it is in stories, is sorely lacking here.
  3. I'm probably not the only one to feel this, but having gone in and out of a couple guilds, I tend to notice patterns that come up:

Non-Guild RPs are restricted to just the Fleet and don't expand beyond that in a fashion like a mystery or an adventure culminating in a classic lightsaber duel with other players, or even into a Flashpoint or an Op if the group is sizeable enough. The organic nature of roleplay seems to be very cut off and the only way to get the best for that is to be in a guild, and even there you are forced into a hierarchy by the groups, for better or worse, and that makes it difficult to tell stories.

Does anyone feel there should be more organic RP that should expand beyond the cantina and the guilds or do you feel it is fine the way it is?

  4. One of my biggest problems with Star Wars Novels is, however, the complete lack of other genres.

Criminal investigation stories (aka Sherlock Holmes) ? No

    Horror ? Yes

    Drama ? No

    Love Stories ? No

    Adventure ? No

    War Literature ? Yes

Travel Literature ? No (except the tiny book by Ben Burtt)

So, Specter of the Past/Vision of the Future/Survivor's Quest, where the main focus is between Luke and Mara falling in love and being married while the rest is actually subplot isn't romance? Right.

Star Wars IS an adventure, notably the KOTOR stuff, or Kyle Katarn's journey...

The entire Hand of Thrawn Duology, over half of Mara's adventures, and even the death of Mara Jade are MURDER MYSTERIES AND CONSPIRACIES.

The major subplot of the Fate of the Jedi saga is a DRAMA AND a Love Story rolled into one.

Do I need to go on? It goes out of its way to cover every flippin' thing under the sun, but it is still Star WARS so there will always be the backdrop of a WAR or the VERGE OF WAR.

  5. I don't mind that the dye is RNG but what does irritate me is the combos. Why can I not just have one color? Or perhaps a slot for primary and secondary. On second though the hell with it I'm making a rainbow warrior!

Oh btw I know there are single dyes but none seem to be on the GTN yet :(

Give it some time, the update JUST came out today. Once people are done using the coins and dyes on themselves, they will have some on the GTN. 2 weeks tops. You can wait that long, can't you?

  6. Doubtful this will be read, but I feel I should post this anyways just to get it out of my system.

This is what I would like to see in the next expansion, and while I doubt most of these will even appear, or not appear, I think it would be neat. So what? Sue me.

    1. HOOD TOGGLE!!!!

    2. Free-Roam Space Combat

    3. Fully Customizable bases, exterior and/or interior (or perhaps the interiors alter to whatever shape the ship is)

    - Ability to move companions within your ship. Love interest in the bedroom, huh? huh?

    4. Class Focused continuing stories (allow us to have our Empire Strikes Back where we as the class separate from the core group and explore our own journeys again)

    5. Mission Immersion

    - Start Planetside,

    -fight big boss,

-he escapes into space: give chase in starfighter, he flees wounded and jumps to hyperspace to another planet,

    - head to hyperspace, AMBUSH! Dogfight!

    - Cutscene where we have to use the escape pod (seriously, you built that to be useless? right.)

    - land on the planet, wade through tons of enemies, solve some puzzles along the way,

    - Big confrontation and CLIMAX TIME!!!

    6. More companion progression

    7. THEATRE MODE!! This story is so epic that it deserves the ability to go and relive all the major class cutscenes and give a taste of "what-if?" which is what a lot of characters, especially Jedi, think about.

    8. Torgruta species

    9. Advanced Class re-spec

    10. 1 New Class? Diplomat? Uses Cunning or Aim like HK-51 does? Advanced Classes either use Pistol or Rifle? Rifle uses cunning, blaster uses aim?

  8. honestly, AS a subscriber, and one who already has the outfits I want, whether through loot drop OR the Cartel Market (so what? sue me.) already without the dyes, and some dyes I like being CRAFT ABLE, I am honestly more concerned with this than the random loot packs which I can go and buy in the GTN if I REALLY want the pieces:

    HOOD TOGGLE.

BASE PURCHASE (honestly, I'd love to have more than just the Defender or the Fury for my Jedi or Sith. That'd be sweet!)

THAT bugs me FAR MORE than trying to make my Jedi look like Batman. Sorry boys. If you want to whine and moan like impotent jerks, that's fine. Not EVERYONE is going to complain, and if they are, at least figure out ways to compensate for the lack-there-of. Stop acting like 12-year-olds and happy gaming :D

  9. I don't disagree that it takes time, except that from practically the get go, it has been clear the hoods are separate pieces from the actual robes or jackets themselves so the amount of time really would be to take each model and create the down piece or the up piece for each set. Yes it takes time, but probably not as much as one might think considering unify colours is a similar process and they have the models. Plus they've had over a year and the promise of hood toggle as early as 1.3.
  10. At the end of the day, I'm just another face and name, and every day that passes I'm growing old.

Down a long hollow road, solo in a night so cold, lost like a child caught in the rain.

That is the chorus to my band's upcoming song, the Noose. Think about it for 2 seconds and apply it to yourself if you whine on the forums, justified or childish, it does not matter. Devs probably don't listen to a lot of people here because, as they full well know, just reading the people on here moan and complain over awfully superfluous reasons in the long term when people clearly are still enjoying their time in the galaxy far, far away like a bunch of children, and in turn like the Sith Lords of the game (direct correlation perhaps?) I can't say I blame them for not responding more than they do.

If you want to have constructive criticism like, say "Well the customization is a good idea, but I feel it is missing a few things like the Hood Toggle or this or this because of X," in a generally neutral voice, that's fine. I'm sure everyone has their own things they'd like to see and clearly has an opinion about the updates. But there IS a saying: You get more with honey than with vinegar. And for those who don't recognize that truth, well, at the end of the day you're just another face and name.

  11. Seconded. Really frustrating when you're sitting in your pod-bike and your cape is falling THROUGH the seat. And really REALLY horrible to see.

What I would like to see more though? HOOD TOGGLE! AND NOT FOR CARTEL COINS! Jedi and Sith turn up and turn down their hoods all the time, this is a BASIC feature that needs to be added!

  12. Either way, from all the "layoffs" which is a fancy way of saying "you're fired" that's 250 people out of a job who had a fixed income for YEARS. I don't mean to point this out, but how Lex/Lionel Luthor of them. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. And the liklihood of them diverting their resources for all of them so they all still have jobs within the company isn't bloody likely.

On the EU note, Disney may not have to care, but the story itself was hammered out by George, Kathleen, JJ, and Michael Ardnt. The EU already has tons of material they can draw from for merchandise, to which Disney knows too well (cause the only reason Clone Wars was cancelled was because THEY didn't create it, we all know that) and Ardnt, the screenwriter, is a HUGE EU fan, and Kathleen knows of the breath of the EU (even if she hasn't read it) and George also has a pretty clear idea of the EU and like he did the Clone Wars, made compromises. So I doubt the EU in its entirety will be gone but there will be a WHOLE lot of retconning going on as they did with the Clone Wars.

Still, I wouldn't wish 250 people out of a job on anybody in this economy in such a competitive market.

  13. well sorry to hear your disappointment but good to see a NON-whine about the game. You get two thumbs WAY WAY up. :D

But on another note BECAUSE you subbed you will get Preferred Status, which is an upgrade of course from Free with bonus server unlocks. Cheers and hope to see ya around :D

  14. Well Darth Bane's Rule of Two does not kick in until about 1000 years before the movies. So theoretically the Empire can and probably does come back in the intervening 2000 years.

Look at the Sith imperial ships and tech in this game along with the imperial emblem. Then look at the Republic ships and tech and emblem in the PT. Finally, look at the Imperial ships and tech and emblem in the OT. They are more than vaguely similar. In fact, the rebel alliance emblem from the movies more closely resembles the emblem of the Republic in SWTOR.

That being said, all those similarities are more probably the result of the PT set designers and the SWTOR game

designers looking to the OT movies for inspiration. The PT set designers wanted the Republic ships and tech to resemble the Imperial ships and tech of the OT so make the transition that much more plausible - why would the new Emperor (Palpatine) re-tool all the Old Republic shipyards? The SWTOR game designers wanted the game's Sith Empire ships and tech to resemble the OT Imperials in order to better associate their ships and tech with already known "bad guy" ships and tech.

Actually Palpatine implemeted those logos and ideals of an "Empire" after studying the various documents and texts he DID recover from the era (one of which was Vitiate's tome and Malgus' war journal) and continued the logo of the Sith by branding it as the symbol for the Republic, but modified just so slightly that the Jedi wouldn't go into the archives and go "wait just a minute here!" Plus it was also to distinguish this was HIS Empire and not a SITH Empire.

  15. After finishing the class storylines (all through Ilum) with the Agent, the Inq and the Warrior, I'm feeling a bit more hopeful for the Empire's prospects. Sure, they had their rear-ends solidly handed to them in Act 3, but the circumstances going forward are slightly rosier:

    - The Dark Council has its first (potentially) alien member, the Wrath is (potentially) an alien as well, and if you click option 2 in the final dialogue, Darth Ravage says that the DC has 'taken note of some of the traitor's ideals'. If I was the DC, the steps I would take are: blame elements of the unproductive Dromund Kaas aristocracy for funding Darth Malgus, strip them of their life and fortune to replenish the Empire's coffers, 'arrange' for their alien slaves to do some of the overthrowing, laud them and all aliens wearing Imperial colors as heroes, and use that event to shake the Imperial citizenry out of complecency, get the cash flow going again, and surge the military's numbers with fresh alien recruits.

    - Darth Jadus's and Baras's power plays were defeated. Darth Malgus's rebellion didn't last long enough to inflict any irreperable damage to the Empire, and it did have the effect of drawing the warring Sith elements closer together. The Dark Council should be more guarded against Sith ambitions from now on.

    - While the Core is lost, the Empire's grip on the Outer Rim is stronger than ever, while the Mid-Rim is still up for grabs.

    - In the Hutt Cartel trailer, the new Chancellor says that they can't allow the Cartel to expand into the Republic, implying that the Hutts are targeting Republic space. This would give the Empire a much needed reprieve, while also giving it an opportunity to play the two sides against each other.

    - The Imperial military seems to be changing tactics from costly occupations to raids and mobile engagement. So while the Republic has to dig in, rebuild and secure worlds, all the Empire has to do is to inflict sufficient military damage to the Pubs, blast worlds that the Pubs need to spend good money for rebuilding, while taking only advanced staging areas for new assaults. Smart.

    - The Black Codex. Blackmail everybody into doing your bidding. The end :p.

All in all, yes, I think that the Empire will emerge from these fiascos much stronger than it was, provided they take these steps :).

If you read the book Annihilation, which is set after the class stories end, there is more expansion into this idea with the Ascendant's Spear and both Master Gnost-Dural and Malgus' former apprentice, the Fallen Darth Karrid, gaining a seat on the Dark Council and killing Darth Gravus (the guy from Taris, Thana's Master) but she was soundly defeated as well, effectively taking away any trump cards from the Empire and putting them in a purely defensive position, plus Imperial Intelligence had been dismantled and disbanded in this time.

But you're not wrong to say there will be a momentum shift thanks to the Hutts getting cute and trying to, you guessed it, take over the galaxy (OF COURSE!). So the Empire WILL Strike Back.

  16. I'm with ya, OP. My main complaints about RP are:

Ignorance of your surroundings; People group off into their own little cliques and completely ignore what is happening around them. The whole point of roleplaying in an MMO, and in the SW universe, is to fell like you are there, like you live in it, like you are a PART of it. However I see people completely ignore things that if I saw I would at least acknowledge.

Ignoring potential friendlies : Not everyone is a troll. Some people may play eccentric or crazy folks, some people may just be attention seekers, but in-character. People flat out ignore others. I've seen (and been) people walk up to some folks roleplaying, and try to join in, introduce themselves, buy them a drink, insult their heritage, call them a dirty nerf herder, etc. Only to be absolutely and completely ignored, or have the other person break character, call them a troll, then ignore them anyway.

Extremes : I get that everyone wants to be this amazing, godly, character, but that's just not kosher in an MMO. You are not the son of the emporer who was turned into a vampire and given metal skin that shoots death beams out of it. You are not immune to force powers, you are not able to fly, you cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound, and blaster bolts do not reflect off your manly pectorals. A good baseline is if you cant back it up with game mechanics, dont try to RP you can do it. Can you shoot lightning out of your hands and shock some poor bounty hunter? Sure. Can you tear his limbs off and beat him with them until he cries and bleeds to death? Id say if you can actually beat him in a duel, sure. Can you fly up into the air, form a spirit bomb ala DBZ, and toss it at him, blowing up him, the planet, and the solar system? No. No you cannot. Are you stronger than a Bounty Hunter or Agent because you're a sith? No. No you are not. You are stronger if you are stronger.

Classism: As mentioned above. The empire does have a hierarchy in which the sith are ranked pretty highly. However there ARE imperials ranked above sith, unless said sith are on the dark council. Even THEN, moffs are ranked the SAME as a dark council member. BUT I AM DARTH NOX!!!!! No, you're not. I know your class story told you so, but I assure you, there are not 200 darth nox's running around on the fleet, make your own story (within reason. Bounty Hunters and Agents are NOT common riff raff youd find in your local bar for 50 credits to off some guy named Biff who owes you money. These are the best of the best, the truly outstanding and powerful of their occupations. Pick up the Bane books, force abilities do NOT always work, some people ARE powerful enough to resist their effects, even NON force users. You being a force user does not grant you instant domination over a non force user (and I play an inquis!)

Elitist: All the above kind of sums up into this. Everyone thinking they're better than everyone else in some way shape or form. Where the hell is Bob the bar tender? Wheres Jim who hates his job as a bounty hunter and just wants to run a moisture farm on tattooine? Why is everyone DARTH PWN, SLAYER OF ALL THINGS THAT ARE NOT HIM/HER. Heck half you inquis need to take a page outta Andronikos' book, that guys got his crap down.

Inappropriate Behavior: I dont mean like snogging in the middle of the fleet. Well okay, I do mean like that. Sometimes. But mostly (I only play imperial so I comment on them) I see complete and utter unimperial behavior. Sally Schoolgirl giggling and twirling her hair, drtinking her foo foo cosmo while hitting on mr. darth pwn in his full pvp armor at the cantina for some reason. Mr. Darth Pwn then blushes, giggles, rubs his head shyly and awkwardly. I think you get the picture. This is not high school, this is the freakin empire. And you're on the IMPERIAL FLEET when I see this crap. Its all I can do not to take poor Andronikos' helmet and puke in it. Im not sure if most of you realize what kind of society the empire is. First of all, Mr. Darth Pwn would likely give 0 effs about you, would probably be offended, angered, and ready to kill you that you even THOUGHT about approaching him in such a manner. The other imperials would also likely drag you into a dark corner and beat the ever loving crap out of you for making imperial soldiers look like stupid high school girls in front of a sith. This is a militaristic, harsh, hateful society, and I am watching Beverly Hills 90210. (is that show still on?)

So in short. People make themselves too hard to approach, make their stories WAY too far fetched, and always powergame themselves which takes the fun out of it for everyone else. I truly do hope to see more people RP in a more player friendly manner, but until then I will sit in the cantina and make fun of you, completely in character while you ignore me and pretend I am not there . Cept that chiss girl I cant remember.....she slapped the hell out of me. I electrocuted her in front of everyone, but at least she reacted. ....er anyway, thats it for my 2 cents. Or looking over the length, my 200000 cents.

-Syaseheth, aka Mr. Darth Pwn with bolt reflective pectorals.

And then there are those who entirely try to "break away from the Empire's way of thinking" and be so UN-Sith like it hurts! And that sure some rules and laws do apply, but they stick to their own little world and forget that they have the tools of the universe at their disposal and should abide by them. If a Sith kills his Master, by right of the law, he is granted the title of Lord and cannot be openly killed in public for doing only what he was trained to do. Sure those who cared about the master can send assassins and etc etc, but technically law does state Sith Apprentices assume the mantle of Lord if they succeed in killing their master.

And the ones that REAAALLY make me laugh are the ones like the Harbingers of the Sith'ari who act like Jedi (and in some cases ARE Jedi converts) and say they are still Imperials. Bullcrap. I can't stand when people don't use the lore to their disposal on top of being ******s.

  17. As much as I already love Kira in the game, I'd totally sign this, many a times I'd have characters who are friends and tell stories but never get to go out and DO said things.

Obviously I know this won't be in the current game plans for the next year or so but it would be cool to see down the road along with hood toggle, chair sitting, racing, and pazzak. Oh and guild ships.

  18. I do agree with you all, but I still miss the one truly absolutely evil Darth, that I want to RP out.

I miss Siddious blowing up a planet for fun, I miss Annakin slaying the most of innocent to turn Dark, I miss Naga Sadow turning an entire planet into a living nightmare, I miss... evil.

I do not ask to drop all the rest, but to add that one thing that made a Sith absulote: the fact that there is no limit.

That freedom is actually the purest of all evils, because it is freedom that allows this.

    Freedom, indeed.

    Personal freedom...

Again: if I flesh out a Sith in RP, then he will be the ultimate of all villains.

    Why?

    Freedom...

    Because I can...

Well if you get to be that powerful and beef up the PVP stuff, do me a solid and shut down the Harbingers of the Sith'ari. They're all filthy borderline Jedi, and don't act at all on ANY of the things that make a Sith, well, a SITH. Sooner I can watch them burn, the better for me :D
