  1. If there were two restrictions that I would absolutely remove from this game in a heartbeat, it would be

    1. The credit cap (FOR PREFERRED PLAYERS)

    2. Weekly 5 Warzone Limit

Those two are my biggest concerns, not only based on how they affect me but how the affect the game economy and the time it takes to get warzone queues.

1.The credit cap is ridiculous, 350k for preferred?? There should be no credit cap for preferred players, the escrow CM purchase is a completely ridiculous. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think SWTOR is the only MMO that is cheap enough to restrict how much you can make in their MMO, and then charge you $$$ just to get those credits that you worked hard to earn.

2.Whenever there are threads that pop up about people complaining about the long server queues, I'm surprised that almost none of them discuss the Weekly Warzone Limit as being the sole problem in any way. Don't most subscribers understand that an overbearing/massive percentage of SWOTR's ingame population comes from F2P/Preffered players?? And yet ranked/unranked PVPers act shocked that it takes an hour to get a ranked warzone queue, and on some servers 20 min to get an unranked warzone queue. Well maybe thats because about 75% of this game's population cant get to lvl 55 (cause its restricted content) and can also play only 5 warzones a week. :rak_02:

Wrong, DCUO limits you too unless you buy escrow packs from their own CM. Mind you DCUO is well past this learning curve and is easily one of the best games on the market but it severely lacks for RP... Which is why I stuck to SWTOR. And that disappoints me because my current budget allowed me to only sub for one game and I chose the crappy game with the good RP over my first MMO which has evolved into a fantastic game...

  2. I don't think LOTRO is a very good deal at all.

You need to start buying quests after the Lonelands, basically level 30 (and the level cap is 95). So that's 65 levels of quests to buy, including 5 different expansions. They've got a 4 pack of the older ones for $20, but the most recent is still $40, I think.

2 of the classes are locked.

You have to buy the riding skill, you can't get it in game.

A lot of SWTORs limitations are kinda of tacky annoyances, I agree, but the bulk of the game is free, and many of the restrictions you can buy off the GTN for surprisingly little. Before I subbed (which was just last week) I had gotten the helmet unlock and a couple of character slots, for 100k each. (I can't believe people sell them for that low, to be honest).

The biggest problem with SWTOR's F2P is really XP. Even doing the bonus series, I was lagging behind recommended levels. But you can make that up somewhat now with KDY.

In LOTRO they also give you a **** ton of quests and deeds to complete that give you Turbine Points (their Cartel Coins) that you can purchase on account wide zones, more character slots, and banking. I would know, my dad is the regular subber of LOTRO and I play it free and I have the exact same amount of stuff he does because we figured out how to milk the system and get it to work. Took like 2 weeks of game time, but it worked.

  3. Chairs - already done, check the GTN.

Chatbubbles - slow down the Frames Per Second to an unacaptable rate. Sorry, but being able to play is more important.

I addressed the chairs in my OP if you were reading it properly. But that's a plug leak as opposed to walking up to a fixed chair in game and sitting down in it. Big difference. I would know, I have quite a few chair emotes. Also, the FPS is no excuse for a proper chat bubble above the head talking with the option to toggle on and off.

  4. I would hope so and the housing expansion does contribute, but to what extent? Do we get to sit in chairs? Do we get chat bubbles? Do we FINALLY have hood toggle? Do all emotes have corresponding actions? Are the houses instanced or in a community like SWG? Or a whole new zone like LOTRO? Or is it a hybrid like DCUO that is accessible through the open world but once you enter the player house you are in an entire separate instance?
  5. Not that I am asking for much (even though we all have our wants) but I myself am an avid roleplayer on SWTOR. It keeps the game fresh for me and interesting to see where I go in the Star Wars universe. The game has already offered a lot for me in this regard as well. In fact I find it much easier to RP than to find an Ops or a guild willing or strong enough TO Ops with. All in all, RP and story was, and still is, the driving factor of SWTOR.

However many people since the game's launch have voiced more than thousands of concerns in terms of QL and RP/Story options ranging from anything like SGR to Hood Toggle to Cross-Class weapon selection and many, many more. Now in some cases they have responded in small ways, such as all current content post Makeb being available, however briefly, to SGR, the various chair emotes as placeholder to a true sit-in-chairs function, there are many other ways that we as fans have voiced that need to be addressed, and BioWare has made clear that they KNOW is a prime concern with that portion of the community. It has become an increasing issue as time has gone on.

Now that they are regularly addressing the PVE/content crowd (despite lack of further solo class stories), and even more recently the PVP crowd with GSF and 2.7's new Huttball maps and the arenas, do you personally think there will ever be an update made strictly for QL/RP? I mean heck if anything that would be an ample time to bolster the new GSH content on the horizons and the Cartel Market and maybe toss in one FP and Warzone to pacify the other crowds, but what do you think? Yay or nay?

  6. 12/25/2014

Game Update 3.0: The RP Update

    General

    • All emotes have been given an appropriate animation. No more emotes will be seen in the chat box without a character on screen doing something relevant.
    • All recuperation animations are now available in emote form, but need to be unlocked to be used.
    • Recuperation emotes are easily unlocked by simply doing the recuperation.
    • The pose a player takes when defeated in a duel is now available in emote form.
    • RP chat mode now available. Accessible near the other chat types, such as General, Yell, Say, and so on. Dialogue spoken while in RP mode will appear in a subtle text bubble above the character.

    Items and Economy

    • For RP purposes, all characters and classes can now equip all weapons. Improficient weapons can even be wielded and used on the most basic attack level. Except for lightsabers in the hands of non-Force users, they can be equipped, but not ignited.
    • Basic attack includes simple blasts/volleys/swings of the weapon; the first attack option a player has when starting the game. Other moves that require an appropriate weapon will simply display a "Required Weapon Not Equipped" message.
    • Abilities that do not require a specific weapon equipped will still be utilizable, even with the improficient weapon equipped. Ex. Dirty Kick, Project, Sticky Grenade, Force Stasis, and so on.
    • To discourage improper use of improficient weapons in non-RP settings, weapons in the hands of those with an improficiency for that weapon will only have a 1% effectivity on said weapon's damage output.

    Dueling

Dueling has received the biggest overhaul since it's implementation.

    • Advanced dueling now available. The dueling option when selecting another individual now opens up to basic dueling and advanced dueling. Basic dueling is the dueling we've known so far.
    • Advanced dueling opens up a popup window, where many options can be set.
    • The option to include groups and parties is now available. For RP cases where conflict is the focus, and there is a distinct division between two groups, there can now be dueling teams. Also, teams can be adjusted even after dueling has initiated, but not during actual combat.
    • The option to bolster participating parties is now available. This makes for more cinematic duels, especially between participants of differing levels.
    • The option to set an unlimited dueling ring is now available. This extends the dueling perimeter to that of the entire instance. This, in conjunction with dueling teams and even bolster, allow for RPs where conflict is a focus of the story.
    • In cases where NPCs may interrupt the duel, the duel is not utterly trashed because of an unwelcome foe. The NPC and player are interrupted from the duel for the duration of the interruption, all special duel conditions are also suspended. This will remain in effect until the skirmish with the NPC is concluded, plus an extra 5 seconds. The player will then be reintroduced into the duel.
    • The option to set an endless duel is now available. Participants in an endless duel who have suffered defeat are temporarily dismissed from the duel, and crouch over in their injured pose of defeat. After recuperation, though, the defeated individual becomes eligible and is a valid target in the dueling group, once more.
    • Single-life duels. A defeated individual is dismissed from the duel, incapable of participating any further.

    Grouping and Instances.

    • Players are now capable of forming RP groups. Like groups and ops groups, RP groups form like an ops group
    • Instances are normally red for unavailable, green for available, and blue for capable of assisting. When in an RP group, instances, no matter what, become yellow. A yellow-shielded instance is enterable for anyone in the RP group, despite class or mission progress.
    • Stories needing an instance are not continuable while in an RP group or instance.
    • RP instances reveal the environment inside, but no story takes place, and no hostile NPCs reside within. These instances are, hence the name, for RP usage.

While I don't mind chat bubbles and having SOME instances re-opened, I have to say no to the rest. First off, you can MAKE an RP chat window and turn off general chat already so they won't just do that. Second, they won't make RP groups when you can form ops groups already and full groups. But I wouldn't mind expanding the Ship company limit from 4 to 8 so you can have a full op in your ship. What this means for the expansion is anyone's guess.

Thirdly, they already addressed that they WILL NOT allow cross-class weapons in the last cantina, even if it's just for show, and personally that always irritated me anyways how people never want to play a class in a conventional sense. "Oh I'm not a Jedi" -totally a Jedi Sentinel class with 2 lightsabers- so this doesn't bug me in the slightest. They have legacy abilities and taunts out there to display Force abilities if you want to be a gunslinger who has Force talents. Use those. They are intentionally staying away from allowing people who are say Guardians to use Saberstaffs or Bounty Hunters to have rifles.

fourthly, your dueling ideas (sans the group one which some do want) are ridiculous and impossible to implement. If an un-friendly is nearby IRL, he WILL attack you, regardless of who you are busy fighting in PVP. Single-life duels? uhh, duels already end when the fight is over. If you don't want to re-match, decline it. *headdesk*

What people REALLY want for RP? Hood toggle, able to sit in chairs (though they've gotten somewhat better with the advent of chair emotes), less adds per area so people CAN RP without getting attacked all the time, and chat bubbles. I mean there are a TON of areas in the fleets and 4 homeworlds and Nar Shaddaa alone that are PERFECT for RP, but nobody uses them, everyone just wants to use the same area. That isn't their problem, that's the problem of the players themselves.

  7. I have now changed all that. Both his name and the first thing. Hope you think its good. I have also added fun facts too :rak_03:

It's fine, just drop the "Bladelord" part of his name. A Sith name is singular and most typically take the name based on a significant meaning to them personally. You don't see Vader running around with "Darth Vader Skywalker" now do ye? XD

  8. Dude...the class story is about a character that we players get to put a face and name to...and make the choices that character would make throughout the story.

Sure...if you're RP'ing with a group of people...then you really can't claim anything done in the storylines as your own...but if you're simply expanding the canon for your own personal character...then what happened in the class story can indeed be your own personal canon.

My character is the Hero of Tython in my own personal canon...because I played through that story with my character. I don't RP with anyone...but that is MY character's own personal canon.

It's odd that you decided to just call him/her out on it when everyone else is taking the same route...and using parts of the class story as their personal canon for their character.

The forums are an extension of the game. If I were roleplaying and going with the general canon and I saw someone claim to be "The Hero of Tython" as cool as some of the pieces of the story ALSO fit in with my character, I know it's not really my character BECAUSE everybody else has done that story. That's why.

  9. Im writing about my main Zaurod

Biography: Zaurod Mar was born on Dromund Kaas in a noble and wealthy family. His father was a moff of the imperial military and his mother was a ambassador. At the age of 10 his father discovered that Zaurod was force sensitive and sent the young boy to the Sith Academy on Korriban. There Zaurod became one of the most strongest acolytes and later he caught the interest of Darth Baras. After suceeding his trials Zaurod became the apprentice of Darth Baras and returned to this homeworld Dromund Kaas. After serving his master in 2 years Zaurod got promoted to the rank of Lord and became Lord Zaurod. But soon his master betrayed Zaurod and started to plan to overthrow the empire and become the Emperor's Voice. During this time Zaurod got crowned to the Emperor's Wraith by the the Emperors Hands and got out in the galaxy to stop Baras from becoming the voice and get revenge for the betrayal. At the very end Zaurod confronted his master in front of the Dark Council and a duel broke out between the two. Zaurod defeated Baras and by the members of the Dark Council got promoted to the rank of Darth. Afterwards a ceremony was held where Zaurod got officially crowned to the Emperor's Wraith.

Darth Zaurod became a great war hero who was involved in many battles. he was a front-line warrior who became a great general. Zaurod was involved in battles like the battle against the dread masters on Oricon and the battle on Makeb. Darth Zaurod became one of the strongest and greatest of sith lords. Zaurod never returned to his family since he started to train at the academy. He never knew if his family was alive or dead and because he never met his mother and father he could never tell them how great he had been. Zaurod did visit the academy on Korriban to get a new apprentice several times but he did train the former jedi padawan Jaesa Willsaam the ways of the sith, and she became his apprentice. Zaurod was part in a great war between the republic and the empire where he fought in the front lines. After the war Zaurod got assasinated and killed by his own apprentice Jaesa.

    Powers:

Darth Zaurod is a very skilled and powerfull lightsaber-duelist and is very powerful with his force powers. He is considered one of the greatest lightsaber-duelists in his era. Zaurods use of force powers is very great. He is very skilled with the use of force choke, he has nearly mastered it. He is capable of sending objects and people flying dozens of metres with his force blast and because of his warrior training is capable of throwing his lightsabers several metres then using the force to guide them. Zaurod is most powerfull in close combat and he has mastered the Ataru lightsaber-form. Therefore he is very deadly in close combat but unlike fellow sith he has never learned the use of force lightning. This means he is not as powerfull in long-range combat like in close combat. Zaurod is also capable of lots of defensive abilities, such as blade ward and can bring up barriers around him who protect him from damage. One of the many abilities Zaurod has mastered is force charge who he uses much in combat.

Zaurod is capable of holding a blaster and it was his father who taught him how to use one before Zaurod began to training at the academy.

Bro, you are not the Emperor's Wrath. You did not defeat Darth Baras. That was a class story. Class storylines aren't what you write as part of your personal canon, they're just a story to be played by BioWare mate... They know who the TRUE Emperor's Wrath is, but they won't tell us. Ever. Simply because it's a choice based MMO. You will need to adjust that. I should also point out that no TRUE Darth would carry a last name of any kind, as most Sith choose their name at the start of their training to seperate themselves from the chain of other people. Basic tenants of the Sith Code. Anybody who keeps the name they often called is not a "true" Sith. Heck Revan and Malak aren't even the names of Darth Revan and Darth Malak. Nobody knows what Revan's true name is, not even he, and Malak's name was Alak.

Just letting you know that your backstory could some serious revision.

  10. Hear me out, everybody.

With the advent of Galactic Strongholds releasing and a lot of its functions being tied to IN GAME credits, it would be a nifty afterthought. Got a bunch of spare cartel coins you don't need? Want some extra credits to buy that VIP lounge band? Something on the GTN? Or more space for your house? Why not come up with a system where we can convert our cartel coins into in-game credits and vice versa. Set it as some obscene "1 million credits for 250 cartel coins" or something like that, so that way free players and preferred players can't just suddenly get cartel coins for working their tails off (though the achievements giving them coins was a good idea) considering their regular escrow limits are 100K and 300K respectively.

This would further encourage subscribers because it's a feature, what with their credit limits being unlimited, to go back and forth and use to great effect. They have a million credits to blow? They can convert it to cartel coins. Heck the game economy would go even further because then you have the GTN runners and so on and so forth...

On second thought, make a restriction on that too... Subscribers get 500 cartel coins a month, so allow them to score an extra 250 by transferring a million credits for it, or if they want, they can convert max 1000 cartel coins into in-game credit. Just so you don't have the GTN runners going back and forth and trying to break the system for the rest of us players who are always short on in game credits.

    What do you guys think?

  11. You realize you're not the first person to make class threads? Some with even more detail down to the class spec levelling trees, all the skills, and buffs, de-buffs, so on.

honestly Force users are Force users. If anything, having a Force user with a blaster would be fun as much as a Republic Senator would or an Imperial Trooper, an SIS agent, or a Nightsister.

Frankly, the Nightsisters were my choice class because their weapons of choice tend to be ranged based like slingshots or energy bows. That and it feeds the whole "Force-Using" aspect. And there is precedent for lore to have an Initiate Nightsister go from newbie to eventually becoming part of the sisterhood, and you can edit that slightly if you chose to be a Nightbrother, starting off as a servant to the Nightsisters before claiming your own place amongst the clan, which they have done here and there already in SWTOR depending on species or gender.

While highly and EXTREMELY unlikely they will add new classes due to the fact they have to do a new storyline and then edit in to the old content said storylines (which they do not have the resources or manpower to do considering EA is cheap as hell) I will throw my hat out there and wish there to be the two classes:

Senator (a Padmé-esque political drama) and Nightsister (the Wicca goth fantasy a la Assaj Ventress.)

  12. I have to disagree with your opinion on honor.

I understand your sentiment but I love the quote:

"Better to fail with honor than succeed with fraud"

As an ex infantry soldier I can assure you battles have been won with honor.

I'm anti-military to the core and I completely agree with this post. 150%.

Having done martial arts off and on for the past 6 years or so, there is a certain satisfaction in knowing you can defeat your opponent and knowing they may not play fair, but you can still kick their asses based on your own skill. While it is good to know your enemy is never going to fight fair, knowing you do shows character. It takes fortitude to stand still. It takes strength to play the game as it is played.

In fact the entire ethos of Samurai, and why they are considered among the greatest fighters of their age, was about honor and that there was glory in not needing to cheat to win. That you would not kill a defenseless opponent and that letting them live was a mark of superiority. And that in their dishonor, they have nothing to live for and thus they kill themselves. They had great respect for their opponents and like many warriors of their era, there was a sense of chivalry that was lost in the passing of time and the spreading of the human gene pool as it expanded and people began to eat each other in ways that are just disgusting, and thus most people became disgusting.

So it is really fascinating to see still there are those out there willing to fight with honor, respect, and decency. While most discard them in war, what you said is very true:

Always better to die with dignity than win through false pretense.

  13. Guardians and Juggernauts (and by proxy the ENTIRETY of the Warrior/Knight class) are getting ****ed over in one of their biggest weapons:

Force Sweep. Or Smash, depending on which class.

That move is handy in a PVP yes, but even MORE SO in PVE for those of us who occasionally have to deal with the bug of an enemy turning invisible on you and thus you cannot attack them nor target them. So by making it a requirement to have to target an enemy to use Force Sweep basically makes me useless in a fight because the only thing that can damage an invisible enemy is radial attacks and by taking away said radial attack, well there goes a huge chunk of offense. It's very much a get out of jail free card and that is BAD.

The rest I care little for but DUDE! Why nerf a move that is a saving grace for a buggy instance?

  14. I wouldn't be against this notion. I miss the 3-man party aspect of the KOTOR games and J-RPGs so having a companion, a hired gun (like in LOTRO, who do have upgradeable skills, but you can't give them gear), and a pet would make for quite a story IMHO. I mean the class ships have plenty of seats in each respective cockpit, I think it would be cool to have your "hired crewmate" whether you need a Smuggler, a Padawan, or a Trooper, to occupy one of those seats would be a great idea.

I mean they are obviously weaker and will go down much faster than a companion and can be made to be unavailable in class instances, Flashpoints, and Operations, so it's entire possible.

  15. The bound to Legacy Armor and some weapons are fantastic idea. But

Is there an Vibroknife or Force Focus that is bound to legacy??

    Who sells such stuff?

    If there isn't any...

    WE NEED THAT ONE TOO...

or allow existing pieces of weapon armor to transport the barrel, armoring

And some kind of storage boxes to mail the implants, earpieces, relic through our legacy,

So that our toons will be available faster at end game

    signed.

  16. Jedi Guardian because while I typically always make my main a DPS, I wanted to have a single lightsaber and not dual-wield, especially when there's no lightsaber shotos in game (as of yet). As time wore on I began to really dig the feel of the class and the character and it really suited my personality had I been raised a Jedi and in the end, a light side Jedi but with romance towards a girl like Kira (who is like any smart guy's dream girl really), it was too many wins to say no to, so I chose it because it feels like me and what I aspire to be.
  17. It would be awesome to have a romance-able youngling padawan as a companion. A DPS/healer that can dual weld with attack animations like Yoda jumping all over the place. Then we can properly RP a

master/apprentice relationship with body type 0 companion. A body type 0 customization would be nice as well.

    Jedi Knight - Kira Carsen

    Jedi Consular - Nadia Grell

    Sith Warrior - Jaesa Wilsaam

    Sith Inquisitor - Ashara Zavros

All become your apprentice of sorts, and ALL are romance-able. Now would it be nice to have a NEW Force User companion with DPS/Healer or Tank/Healer capabilities? Sure, sounds like fun, but there already are Jedi and Sith companions who take on the apprentice role.

  18. I dont think BW favored a side but players in general wanna play the bad guy since most games you are playing a good guy. Like letting your inner bad boy out...heh.

Ironically in RP terms they are NOT really playing the bad guy. You see the RP in the servers? Gaaaah, the Jedi and Republic people are all a bunch of tortured, darksider, brooding, Batmen of sorts for no apparent reason other than it is liberating and "unconventional" (except when everyone is doing it, it IS conventional...), and the bloody Sith and Imperials are a bunch of Hipster bronies touting that "FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC!" "UNITY!" "MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR! Unless it's against restrictions like the Jedi! FREEDOM!!!!!"

GAAH I really hate 90% of the RP in SWTOR because of this...

  19. Okay. I must say I like the idea.

I also found an additional personal reason: some of the unfriendly remarks (when you have an option between two or three things to say) are incredibly funny!! So, it would be cool if could play my BH again and be a total jerk to Mako and Gault :D (Without actually losing afection, that is)

Which I argue is why this would be a good thing and get people to either re-sub or replay the game :) I mean maybe they can give it an incentive: "Subscribers won't lose affection while FTPers WILL be affected."
