  1. Blech, Elara is so slow. Sure with Jorgan or Yuun you might need to reload between every couple pulls, but you're having more fun in between running everything over. I'd recommend Elara only if you're low level for the content you're at, soloing non-kiteable champions, or perhaps on a PvP server and want to be topped up all the time. Otherwise, if you have Dorne out for any pull where you wouldn't need a heal to survive, you're wasting time. TIME PRECIOUS.
  2. Agreed I enjoy all the Trooper companions, even Elara ("Yes Elara you have permission to get food for the ship LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!). I've just seen Jorgan called a dbag so many times I had to take action. And LOL on Jorgan walking in on you. Funny thing is when he makes the move on a lady trooper, he orders everyone off the boat first.
  3. This would be a good move if taking down a strong mob was actually a challenge (example: my Medicine-specced Operative likes it), but life as a Vanguard is just not that hard. Honestly not sure why it doesn't affect elites, which are susceptible to Cryo Grenade...
  4. I'm levelling as shield (at 44 now), and while I can't offer a comparison I'll say that I'm having a fine time of it. With a good DPS companion out it doesn't feel too tedious, and I like being able to tank the heroic quests. Plus Storm is fun.
  5. Perusing these forums, I can't help but notice a preponderance of Jorgan haters. I'm quite fond of the cat man, and was trying to think of reasons he'd cause such animosity. It simply can't be his usefulness as a companion. Unless you're soloing heroic stuff (and sometimes when you're soloing if you can kite things), Jorgan is the BEST for probably each AC and every spec. Dorne is for the lazies, and Jorgan is beefy enough and does so much damage that 4X and Vik are pretty useless in comparison. I only JUST got Yuun, who has a massive gear disadvantage on Jorgan at the moment, but who I could see at some point being as good. But even if you were to make the switch, after so many levels with Jorgan at your side, you have to feel a little affection for him! So it must be his personality right? I guess he's kind of mean to you on Ord Mantell? Did he hurt your feelings? Jorgan doesn't care. Jorgan sees some hot shot rookie that everybody's fawning over? He's not impressed. And then the mission he sends you on gets messed up because the person you're supposed to be saving dies? Yeah he's pretty harsh here. My reaction: "EFF YOU MAN I'LL SHOW YOU HOW GOOD I AM." It'd be one thing if Jorgan never acknowledges you, but you only have to keep playing through Ord Mantell for him to agree with you that you deserved to go with the rest of Havoc. And what does he do when Havoc mysteriously disappears? He disobeys an obviously suspect order and sends you in after them. If it were Dorne in that situation nobody would've known about the defection and the Empire would've gotten a pretty sweet bomb. After that he takes his demotion pretty well, considering. He even offers you FRIENDLY advice about leading, which he actually has experience with - versus you who've been in Havoc about a week and are now it's CO. And even if you choose to get snappy at his pretty reasonable skepticism (which I did since I'm a BAMF and don't take no crap from no one), you can tell him to can it and he will without getting offended. And once you're off Coruscant he never questions you again, unless you don't promote him. But why wouldn't you promote him? The most common answer I see is about Dorne's pants. Jorgan doesn't pull any punches about why he should be promoted: he deserved it back when he was originally an LT, and he deserves it even more now after being unjustly scapegoated and continuing to admirably serve the people that screwed him. He's not gonna list all the reasons he's made to be XO when you both already know them. Honestly, I didn't even know all this drama about Jorgan's promotion existed until I read a thread about it, since when Garza asked I didn't even talk about it, I promoted Jorgan immediately. And if Jorgan gives you crap later for promoting Dorne over him - you probably deserve it if your main reason was to get some ice-cold Imperial action. (Although I would appreciate seeing some ice-cold logic on why Dorne would deserve it over Jorgan.) In conclusion, yay Jorgan. I'll love your grumpy-face even if no one else will.
  6. It's hard for me to compare, since when I got Yuun I had Jorgan geared almost as well as a player. But in his starter gear he still ended up decent enough, I'm guessing once he's kitted he'll be great. Plus it's kinda fun as a tank for both of you to charge up to the same mob together!
  7. I'm playing a mostly dark trooper. She's brutal and merciless, but still over all law abiding and doesn't do bad stuff just for the hell of it. So at level 44 I'm sitting at Dark II, haha.
  8. Depends on how you play really. As a tank I certainly didn't need heals to survive the average pull, so Jorgan would speed things up a lot - but I do keep Elara geared since she's very useful for solo-ing champions and heroic quests. I did briefly try doing normal missions with Elara, putting her in her DPS stance to hopefully speed things up, but her damage was still nowhere near Jorgan's. If you're a healer (or a commando who doesn't mind casting a heal on a tough pull) obviously keep Jorgan. DPS could probably go either way, but if you just want to relax and not worry about doing anything stupid, go with Elara (and perhaps later a tank).
  9. When I first picked up Elara I noticed she was using a blaster with cunning on it, and for the rest wearing aim gear. I double checked on her character sheet and codex page that aim is her primary stat, so just shrugged it off and got her an aim gun. But now I've just completed a mission that offers a gun upgrade for her... and it has cunning on it? What are you trying to tell me game! Tell me I'm not crazy and she should be using a blaster with aim!
  10. Thanks for the reply. Now that I think of it my main has Biochem, and via commendations is always well geared. With Biochem proooobably being the best CS for everybody ever, and since I definitely don't care enough to do it on two characters, think I'll go with Armstech because it makes me smile more
  11. Anyone have any opinions between Armormech and Cybertech? I was once told Armormech's inability to make mods rendered the CS kind of useless, but having no personal experience with either CS I'd like some more opinions. Also any thoughts on Armstech? Making guns seems kind of cool for me, but I'd still rather take the CE that benefits my playstyle best.
  12. As a medicine-specced Op, I love holding a big gun while I cast my heals. Really fun aesthetic change from other MMOs. Holding a knife instead really pales in comparison. But like others have said, a sweet looking knife on our hip instead of some stupid blaster we use during cutscenes would be appropriate.
  13. The key is keeping your eye on your General chat. Keep the name of the Flashpoint or Mission you need in mind, and especially watch if the group needs a role you can provide - healing, tanking, or DPS. You can't ensure the behavior of other players - whether they'll be reliable or know what they're doing - so the best you can do is come prepared yourself. Be comfortable with your role and your abilities. Group play often calls for abilities - like crowd control - that you don't need when soloing, so be prepared to perform them when asked or if it seems like they'd help. And just to be courteous, don't join a group for something when you are unable to meet up with them in a timely manner. Rude behavior or inattentiveness to a group will often cause it to fall apart. Groups often flourish when a member (especially the leader) is patient and communicative. Good luck!
  14. Bugged I believe. Ran it the other day and while the chest you mentioned worked for us, the chest after the Republic fight did not. Pretty sad considering how tough that fight was (though I'm pretty sure we did it wrong!)
  15. Boy that Marauder was dumb. Or just mean. But when you roll for a piece of orange gear, you're rolling for the mods inside it. The gear is just a shell. So for him to roll on the gear only to throw out the cunning mods would essentially be the same as rolling on the gear and deleting it. If he has strength mods to put in it, he can easily place those mods in anything - it's not like moddable gear is hard to come by.
  16. Haha I'm Sept 25 and seems I must have just missed this wave
