  1. Cancelled my sub (12 days left) this week, but not because of GW2. I finished my eighth different character story this week, having completed all of the companion quest lines, each character has at least 4 parts BM if not WH gear, all have maxed crafting, but warzones and ops have gotten stale really quickly and there's just no diversion left to justify re subbing. All of this was done playing for an hour or two in the evening after work and the kids were in bed and slightly more time at the weekends. I really enjoyed completing the story lines and with each character did all of the side quests up to the end of Voss, just to queeze out the content, but by the fourth character this felt like a real grind and dailies have just become a chore. There's nothing in the game to dip in and out of to keep interest fresh. Keeping valor rank matched to my level and doing the side quests / bonus series, I was always overlevelled for the planets. I hit 50 at the end of the Hoth bonus series or beginning of Belsavis on every character. The game just felt too easy throughout. The companion quests and crossover between the companion storylines were great, but nothing mattered. No choice made during conversations materially affected my experience in the game- LS / DS were purely cosmetic, companions could be bought off with gifts far too easily. Legacy was a complete bust and a blatant money sink. There was no reflection for having got to mid 40s legacy, which made the whole thing redundant. Enough has been said about the rails shooter- I found it incredibly dull and kept going back to Battlefront 2 to play Star Wars space combat. With the lay offs and move to F2P, I have no faith that character based content, the secret space project, or new pvp / large scale WZs will be generated enough to warrant sticking around. Having alreasy consumed everything that will be available for a F2P account, I just can't see anything left apart from grinding for the sake of it. I really enjoyed story lines and have no qualms about having got a 6 month subscription from launch, but WoW (my only other MMO experience) held my interest and subscription for 6 years- SWTOR failed to keep either for more than 6 months.
  2. Seriously considering it. I have 13 days left and this evening just completed Act Three on my eighth different character, so have now experienced each of the story lines. I religiously stuck to completing side quests and bonus series up to the end of Voss, but after doing Correlia completely 3 times I got bored and just did the main questline and have dipped in and out of Illum / Black Hole across the remaining chars. Bizarrely, doing all the side quests and doing WZs each level until I was level with valor rank meant that I hit 50 on Belsavis for all but 1 char, and found the subsequent quests on Voss and Corelia too easy. Each of my chars have raised crafting / gathering to max level, so nothing to do there other than generate money. I've run through every companion quest and done a fair amount of pvp (each char has at least 4 pieces of BM, some have a mix of WH), but that and dailies are now becoming more of a chore, which has seen me slip back to other solo efforts for my gaming fix. Raiding doesn't really hold any interest for me as I have a job with 60ish hours a week, school age and pre-school children and a wife to entertain, so although I play for an hour or so daily in the evening anda bit more at the weekends once the kids are all in bed, it gets interrupted often and I can't really block out set periods of time for raiding, which I was able to do in the early days of WOW (my only other MMO experience, but one I was committed to for 6 years) pre-offspring. Now with the move to F2P I have real doubts about additional story based content being released, which was my main focus (and one of the most touted features) of this game. I can't see F2P supporting the expense of significantly more VO cutscenes. I've found space combat incredibly frustrating and dull and was looking forward to the secret space project, but can't see that coming to fruition any time soon, particularly given the lay offs. New WZs may offer some interest, but I miss the relatively large scale games of AV, where there were various things you could do - defend, tower cap, summon Ivus or Lok, which gave some variety. Voidstar and Huttball are still entertaining, but the other two have gotten old quickly. There's no sense of epicness in the WZs here. I've never been fussed by vanity items, so the cash shop doesn't really hold any glamour for me. The legacy system has dwindled into nothingness. If they were to add minigames as a payable option in the shop I would consider re-subscribing, particularly if there were things like swoop racing or pazaak. So yes, seriously considering unsubscribing- I'll wait to see what the devs put out over the next 2-ish weeks (if they actually respond to anything this community is asking about. if I stay, I will certainly revert from 6month sub to monthly so that I don't lose out too much if things tank much more, but at the minute unsubbing looks most likely. I've enjoyed my time in SWTOR but can't believe that I've done nearly everything that I wanted to do within 6 months, which seems particularly short compared to my experience of WOW, and now I have no faith that additional content will be generated to the same quality or at a pace that keeps things lively and engaging. Such a shame, as it had so much potential.
  3. Most companions, when you have raised them to maximum affection and completed their final quest tell you that: It would seem a natural fit in terms of legacy that once you have raised a companion to maximum affection and achieved the end of act 3 (completing the class story) that your companion is then available for alts in the same faction (if this wold prove too difficult / costly for coding while alts are completing their class stories, availability could be restricted to other characters that have also completed act 3 so that there wouldn't be lots of additional coding required to have that companion feature during class quests). Then, to encourage development of alts and cross faction play, once you have raised all companions of one faction to maximum level, they could then be available to alts of the opposing faction. As an example, once Mako (BH companion) had achieved maximum affection and your BH had completed act 3, she would become a companion for any other empire character (or those that had completed act 3 if coding her into class story lines is too costly / difficult). Then once all your empire characters had completed their companion quests, any empire companion would be available for your republic alts or vice versa. Being able to use companions outside of your original set would encourage rolling of alts and would add a little more life to fleets. It would also make your character feel a little more individual and encourage development of more RP options for those that play on such servers. Thoughts welcome.
  4. Try telling people you come from Scunthorpe...
  5. Battlefront 2 gave a mix of space and ground combat in the space missions. You could fly a ship over to the enemy fleet, land and fight your way to destroying the objectives from inside the fleet, if you didn't want to fly about outside attacking the shields / engines etc. This surely would translate fantastically well in SWTOR, to allow for both space combat (preferably off the rails- currently it is so frustratingly dull) or ground combat to complete the space missions. I still prefer firing up my dusty XBOX for a BF2 game rather than SWTOR's rail combat. I know that its different strokes for different folks, but it is very dissapointing not to have the flexibility in the ways you can complete space missions.
  6. Today , 04:02 PM | #4 The European servers listed above are still unavailable. At this time we do not have an estimate for the end of the maintenance. We'll continue to post updates an information in this thread as they become available. Thank you for your patience! Amber Green | Live Community Coordinator Follow us on Twitter @SWTOR | Like us on Facebook [Contact Us] [Rules of Conduct] [F.A.Q.] [Dev Tracker] The latest update in the sticky now gives no time for the servers to come back on line. It would be lovely if Bioware would give some indication as to what the problem is, but I guess it will be another three hours until the next moderator post saying not a lot again. I'm speculating someone spilt Guinness on the hardware over in Ireland.
  7. Legacy is good for three things: 1: The presence buff for companions, particuarly having got a human to 50 along with the companion type buff at 10k affinity. 2: Account cross faction posting: helps with crafting, particularly for schematics and purple craft materials (I have 2 50s and the rest are between 42 and 46 on one server with all craft skills covered). Useful for gearing up while levelling. 3: creating a soap opera in the legacy tree. Oh the plot lines have been immense! Marriages, children, break ups... I like to do this wearing a gingham dress and arranging a tea party my star wars minatures. I particularly enjoy pretending Darth Vader is Mrs. Nesbit. The price sink for ship upgrades is ridiculous though. I agree with others that legacy levels should give a scaling discount or remove the cost altogether once a particular legacy level has been reached. * Edited for butter fingers while typing on my mobile (Sigh- I'm so old and technology is just beyond me now)
  8. Absolutely. But it does give me time to marvel in the forum community spontaneously combusting today
  9. Whine post, but hey. I can't understand why BW gave a month's free game time to people with a 50, but nothing to those who may have invested just as many hours in multiple characters, none of which had hit end game. Prior to 1.2 going live, I had 1 character of each class, all of which were in the 30-40 level range and all of which had within 2 valor levels of their actual level. 4 imps (Merc, Operative, Juggernaut, Sorceror), 4 reps (Gunslinger, Vanguard, Shadow, Sentinel). I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the different playstyles across the classes and the stories, even finding repeating areas enjoyable due to the differing companions and skills / approaches to mobs. I was deliberately keeping them all roughly on a par (within 5 levels or so), so that I could endulge myself any time I was able to play (married, 2 kids, job with long hours) with experiencing varied aspects of the game, knowing that realistically I won't have the time to participate in Operations as I can't guarantee a regular playing time or a consolidated period of time at the computer. Why no love from BW for someone that has likely invested just as much time in the game compared to someone focusing on one charater to 50? I know that BW didn't have to make any kind of reward for any players, but to offer a financial gain for a particular set of players (1 month free) over others seems a little skewed. I'm peeved. Bah.
  10. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#601rzbskrskZ0MZf0cRr0z.1 I would welcome constructive comments on the above build. Is a hybrid build viable for both PVE and PVP? I'm currently level 21 and have spent most of my time pre-20 pvping as shadow as I wanted misdirection to get the additional stealth levels, but found it a little slow during PVE particularly against large groups. At 20 I swapped to focus to try out Force in balance for PVE and definitely want to keep it for levelling. I found that I am missing the focus regen from Shadow's Respite, so think the two points there will be worth it, as I don't know what the regen effect from On with the Force will be like. In PVE I tend to open up with Shadowstrike, FIB, Force Breach, Force Wave. PVP I tend to stick to the periphery and use Shadowstrike, Force Breach and Project to disrupt. Are the higher level talents in either Balance or Kinetic so useful to rule out going as a hybrid whilst levelling?
  11. Given the impetus to level alts in SWTOR to experience the varied storylines and the lacklustre GTN activity, please consider implementing same account mailing for crafting mats between Republic and Empire. Make items mailed and any subsequent crafted items bind to account to avoid exploitation, but this move would help gearing or increasiing crafting for alts without ending up with separate stacks of mats across alts going to waste as they can't attract a sale on GTN
