  1. Nope, but people expected this game to be equal to or superior to SWG, an MMO launched in 2003. It isn't. After your storyline is done and you're 50, the game dies unless you REALLY like rolling alts. This is a Star Wars MMO, and it should have been a successor to the former Star Wars MMO.
  2. Blah, blah. I heard that way back before we even knew what the game was going to be like. It's a copout. You can't sit there and tell me this game is better than SWG, even with all of its flaws.
  3. Funny how people keep mentioning EVE as the sole example of a sandbox. I said bring on the next generation, as in I welcome improvements to the already superior style.
  4. I gave the game a month. Now I am complaining. I can, thank you.
  5. I had high hopes that they (Bioware) would fill the void of Star Wars Galaxies. SWG was flawed in many ways, but it had a lot of positives, even after two complete redos of the entire game's combat system. I at least expected them to try and merge the two types of MMO's. But all we got was another WOW clone with a storyline and Mass Effect dialogue system. Bleh. PVP is a joke, and I don't think I need to elaborate.
  6. It is yet another in a long line of boring and lifeless themepark MMOs. Sandbox MMOs are so much more alive. Player economies make the world feel real, and there is so much more random interaction between people. Gear/reward based progression, carrot on a stick, is just so flawed and pointless. So many things I could list that are better in sandbox MMOs, but my point is made. Themepark MMOs suck. Bring on the next generation of sandbox MMOs!
  7. What you and others who share you line of thought fail to grasp is that the design encourages that mentality. Rewards for PVP = Death of PVP. The solution to fix PVP is to remove PVP rewards and the PVP stat (expertise). Then people will PVP to PVP, and not for gear.
  8. Never played Counterstrike (and probably won't cause I hate Steam). Off topic, but one of my favorite old school FPS's was the original Rainbow Six. It was back before the era about rewards. It was about killing and winning and all about skill and planning.
  9. I edited it out because it was wrong. E-sports is about competition, not so much about rewards (disregarding potential money from winning). PVP is not about rewards or competition. It's strictly killing other players, just to kill them. Sometimes there are extra motivations behind it, such as trash talk or owning a particular area or resource, but in the end always about killing. I said Call of Duty because it has the progression from killing you're talking about. As a result it also has guns that are better than other lower tier ones. Player skill sometimes negates that, but usually an overpowered gun will trump a lone player's skill because one player can't stop his teammates from dying. I could go on, but what I said to begin with summarizes it best: rewards for PVP = death of PVP.
  10. Ask for a Call of Duty MMO, then, I guess. Lol, I like killing players. I liked Voss before they killed PVP in the city. Mindless killing and camping. Was fun as could be. Only time it ever got old was when somebody with top tier PVP gear came in and took on 3 players at once and won against them. PVP gear and PVP rewards kill PVP.
  11. What you're complaining about is not PVP rewards. You're talking about a ranking system. Totally different. Nobody is against that. I'm sick of gear being the sole reason for anyone PVPing. They don't care about anything else. Just gear and points. SWG had a ranking system (later in the NGE at least), and you could buy cosmetic stuff at higher ranks and some buffs. That was fine. People killed people because they wanted to kill people. People held grudges. Imperial guilds warred with other Imperial guilds. PVP was about PVP. You could raid cities and camp guilds at their own city's cloner. Since rewards entered the equation, that type of PVP has ceased to exist, for the most part. Carebears have taken over PVP as a result, which is why there are so many complaints about fairness/ganking/camping/griefing/overpopulation. PVPers don't care about that, they kill each other 24/7 because they like to PVP. Instanced PVP doesn't help with the situation either.
  12. They're finally turning Ilum into what I figured it was going to be all along: a warzone planet. Soon, when an enemy player enters your main base, they die. I expect this is going to become the norm for any future PVP content. I don't plan on resubbing. I may give it one more month, but if it just continues down this path, I'm gone. No you can't have my stuff... not that you can trade anything in this game anyway, since everything is bound....
  13. Rewards for PVP = Death of PVP. Perhaps all of the MMO devs will learn this lesson about 10 years down the road.

  15. Made a thread about a topic similar to this about 6 months ago (you can't find it now, since the forums were wiped). Bioware won't do it. All they're worried about is warzones. Open world PVP is shunned by the devs. Ilum is their shining example of what they consider open world PVP.
  16. OP: Line of sight is one. Kiting is another. Positioning for pushbacks. The list goes on. Standing still is not very smart.
  17. Yes, and not because of stupid warzones. It's because there is no real PVP, just instanced shlt. You can get that in any other MMO. Open World PVP is what is missing in the current generation. Bioware continues to ignore that fact.
  18. Ilum = Warzone Planet. Ilum is in no way, shape, or form Open World PVP. Have fun killing your game, guys.
  19. It's unfortunate that the devs have decided to further baby down PVP. First with Voss, and now with Ilum. They are going to "fix" camping of medcenters and have safe zones for a "battlefield." Addition #1 (on OP of this thread), would "fix" camping of med centers, but I doubt they've taken it into consideration. Sub has run its course and probably won't be re-upping until they stop trying to kill their game and alienate a portion of their customer base.
  20. PVE servers are available if PVP servers are "too brutal." With the mentioned fixes to medical centers, nothing should be game breaking.
  21. PVP in MMOs are dead, and the comments prove it. Carebears have taken over the genre.
  22. Have had many a good fights on Voss. Bioware plans to make the city a Sanctuary, so that means no more of these excellent battles. Now, after 1.1, we'll get to stare at each other go off on missions on a PVP SERVER! Voice your disagreement so that maybe they will keep Voss a PVP planet for PVP servers!
  23. Ugh, don't know if I can urge myself to play this game anymore. Just so effin boring. Once you hit 50, world pvp dies and it's all warzones from there on out. I actually got some good fights on Alderaan and Hoth, but nothing since. On Ilum, a few Imps called me a griefer for attacking a Republic because he was flipping a base. This game is doomed to failure, imo. If they fix it 6 months down the road it'll be too little too late. The whole problem is rewards for PVP. Rewarding PVP just makes it about gear instead of PVP for the sake of PVP.
  24. Blame players and Bioware. PVP shouldn't be rewarded and there shouldn't be PVP gear. Then, people would PVP to PVP and it would be about fun, not gear and points. The only reward would be besting your opponents.
  25. I've played less and less since 50. There's nothing to do besides warzones and the same old raids, except harder. No real open world pvp. On Ilum, I was attacking a republic player flipping a base, and an imperial standing a few meters away, watching and trading bases, called me a griefer in general chat. Was hilarious and sad at the same time. My hopes for the game drop lower and lower each day. I know the next big patch is supposed to require killing of enemy players, but still. Rewarding PVP killed PVP, imo (talking about MMO's in general). It's no longer about just PVPing and having fun. It's now just another gear grind, and hardly anyone participates after their quest is done.
