  1. Not to say that you don't have freedom to do what you want to, but with there isn't much need for an off tank. Most ops work better 2 fully specced tanks, it's just the way the ops are designed. EV only need 1 tank, so you may as well go dps, KP can be done 1 tank, but you're further off with 2 full tanks. EC if your healers are gods living among men and TfB would be an interesting to try 1 full tank/ 1 off tank, I may bother my guild about trying that, but in all cases (except EV) you're trading a solid second tank for a little more dps, which is probably not a wise trade-off.
  2. In a likely vain attempt to make this clear. Power gives a flat rate increase (at 0.17 damage/power, if memory serves) in damage (healing). Cunning gives a lower return (at 0.14 damage/cunning) on damage (healing) but also give a boost in crit chance (0.03% crit chance/cunning). With the main stat buffs of +5% and +9% you get from skills and buffs, the damage (healing) return for cunning is roughly equal to that of power alone, but you also get the boost in crit chance. Point for point, with stat buffs, power and cunning have the same increase in damage (0.15) (healing), but cunning also gives the added crit chance, so it becomes preferable.
  3. I'm going to start camping Desii's body every chance I get.
  4. I'm with Urd, dps is mean and bad. There's something particularly unpleasant about seeing 4 different leaps one after the other. Pile on the healer is a silly game.
  5. Do you know what you're looking for in terms of a guild? What you hope to get from a guild and from the game itself, your interests and such will be a good guide as to where you would fit in well. If you can include some of those details, that will probably guild identify if you would fit in well.
  6. I think an interesting question is being raised here and it would take some complicated math (or statistics) to appropriately tackle the question. The passive def relic applies 100% of the time to M/R attacks. Healing proc relic can be considered a form of mitigation only when the tank is below 100% life but that mitigation value is also lost on any over heal being done (including anytime a healer incurs an over heal for the sake of topping off the tank). Part of the problem with those instances of mitigation loss is, they are so dependent upon your group and your healers in particular, it's going to be nearly impossible to accurately model. As with everything modeled, it has it's assumption and inaccuracies and there are those who use the model blindly, know the inaccuracies and accept them and those who try to get the model right and end up going crazy.
  7. Are you asking about as a dps or healer? Scrapper is pretty good at dropping people 1v1 if you can control them. Sawbones is more difficult. Fresh 50s go down quickly, but once they get some gear, the time to kill goes up significantly. A sawbones can win in a 1v1 against a resonably geared opponent, but it is a long process and there's usually time for backup to arrive before I can get the kill and the cap.
  8. I spent some time specced as a scrapper. Taking a few days focused on killing helped me learn what attacks work well in which situations.
  9. Anyone have Reflex Barrel 27? Also Resolve 27 hilts? Thanks.
  10. I'm going to disagree with the "too close" hypothesis. When you click on a target, (I don't recall if it's left or right click) you can also activate the ability on you "1" hotkey (at least it's #1 on my setup). I suspect that when you clicked on their companion, you attacked it as well, which will flag you for PvP.
  11. The one thing that kind of gets me is, I keep hearing a lot of comments about it being a PvP area and if PvErs don't want to participate, don't show up in a PvP area, because this is finally what PvPers have been waiting for, etc. My question is, why is Outlaw's Den either empty or 1 person wanders through every time I go there? Structurally, this doesn't appear to be that different except now there are a bunch of people who aren't interested or experienced in PvP wandering into a PvP area because of a world event.
  12. You do have a point there Val. I was thinking more along the lines of nothing gained for engaging in PvP (a la Ilum back in the day where you at least got a count towards daily/weekly for killing someone).
  13. The PvE crowd goes there because it's where the event is, there is currency to be had at a location, so that's where they're going. The objective isn't even one where killing people gives you anything (unless killing the orb carrier gives you the orb, didn't check that). I ran in there with a couple guildies who never run PvP, because it was on the quest list. It's a PvE quest in a PvP area.
  14. It was interesting to watch. Some people would stick around and help mow down targets as they spawned for quests, help cover friendlies in the pvp area and others would ninja orbs while you're fighting the boss, hit marking a mob then leaving you with aggro to kill it, etc. It's interesting to watch how people behave when there's a matter of getting things done a little quicker.
  15. Wait Rinz, I'm not sure if you quoted me intentionally or not. I'm only asking where he'll be so I can come practice my 1v1. Siricius, is there any class/spec you would prefer? I like my shadow and my scoundrel, but I'll let you beat on either of my troopers if you want.
  16. On the subject of being an effective scoundrel healer in warzones, I advise spending some time specced as a dps. Sawbones are great on heals, but they have the ability to do a reasonable amount of offense as well. I would argue there are times when one or the other or both are needed, and knowing how to make both happen will help. I suggest scrapper, at least that's what worked for me. Also, best of luck below lvl 30, it's painful, but don't worry, it gets better.
  17. Where on Coruscant? Or do we have to track you down?
  18. Does one need to be dressed as a Tusken to camp Outlaw's Den?
  19. It's not tied to his cc. I've had it turned off for months and he still says it all the time.
  20. I think the joy in ranked PvP comes in the quality of the game. There are two things I enjoy in PvP, being on a team with smart and capable players, and an evenly fought match. A good ranked match should bring both of those to the table. You can get that in pug PvP, but it's a rarity.
  21. Sorry to add to derailment Mel, but I think those who weren't on VL underestimate the level of peace on the server. There were unicorns frolicking in Center on Ilum. People took turns picking up the huttball and walking it across the map. Occasionally an opponent would tickle you or crack a joke in hope you would give it to them as a turn of good favor. We would start each civil war with a picnic next to the turret at grass. And when combat did commence, it was a large pillow fight where head shots would earn you a 2 min time out because someone could get hurt. And we ended each week by meeting in Outlaw's Den to roast marshamallows and sing songs around the campfire before the server went down. VL was truly a happy place. I only wish you all could have experienced the joy.
  22. I know a scrapper who uses the healing proc relic in PvP in conjunction with surprise comeback and likes the added survivability he gets in PvP. You may try it on your Mara in PvP, but I wouldn't see it being of much use PvE.
  23. I agree somewhat with the OP. The fact that there are so many sents/mara who's strategy has regressed to leap and smsweep/smash is lame. The fact that it's become a feasible strategy against healers is even more irritating. I have no problem getting leveled when I know that it means the person is skilled enough to beat me. But when it's a two button attack that takes all the coordination of seeing someone else leaping at me, you may as well be spamming tracer missile. As for a solution for Op, from someone who comes from a guild that does very little pvp, if you keep healing and do well enough with it, you end up developing contacts who appreciate a good healer. I've had the good fortune to meet people who will bring me in to their premades to heal. It doesn't solve the probl, em of 3-4 maras who only push 2 buttons to kill you, but you do get into a more skilled and coordinated team. And as Desi says, roll a smuggler, healing while running for your life is sadly kind of fun. -Moco
  24. If I can echo what was said previously by Xam (arguably one of the best healers on our server), there are very different healing styles. Our HoTs make us very strong PvP healers because of the ability to scramble and heal, but it's not the only way to do it and I don't think instacasts should be the only tools we use. I agree that there is very little time to get a casted heal off, that doesn't mean there aren't times we can and should. I used to heal solely with UWM, EM and KC, and still do mostly, but UWM and DS are great tools when you get a chance to use them and some alacrity gives you more opportunity to use them. -Moco
  25. Can someone direct me to a good resource with a breakdown of boss fights that includes damage types from the different mechanics? Thanks.
