  1. Run the same test 3 months from now. I think you'll find different results. The dedicated hard core level 50 endgame players are the ones who are unhappy. Right now all the scrubs are truly happy and indignant at the reprisals of the people with genuine grievances. "Why should those unhappy complain? I'm perfectly happy!" When you understand the higher level concepts of the game you will find it lacking at a much more important level. The vast majority of players are indeed very happy, because frankly.. They just don't know any better. And that is wonderful! For them. But.. those folks tend to get .. distracted by "real life" quite a bit and quit and a much brisker pace once they get bored, and believe me this is an eventuality. Eventually the serial altoholics and lookieloos will reach endgame, and figure out.. hey.. ***?
  2. Everquest was 14 years ago. And yes, we can. 3D controllers were separate cards back then, you had to hook them into your video card because they needed to be put in another PCI slot. Different times man. Not a good comparrison. This is like when saturns came out .. buying it and going "What do you mean it has an 8-Track tape! My Honda had a CD-player!"
  3. Changed my subscription plan on one account to monthly, cancelled my second account.
  4. I'm not going to rehash the problems TOR has, but I'm looking for viable alternatives, because frankly.. I'd just like something fun to do. This isn't cutting it. Anyone know of any open betas for MMOs coming out or maybe something that's been pushed over by the big titles? I would have put this in an out-of-game forum, if it existed, but it doesn't. I just wanted to hear options from folks with similar taste as me.
  5. I think there was a mistake made. Oh yeah.. You thought people actually cared what about what you accomplished. Almost everyone falls into one of these categories: 1) Really has no idea what you're talking about. 2) Feels that you had it too easy, marginalizing the modicum of achievement you've produced. 3) Feels that given the same opportunities you have had they can easily accomplish what you have. Very very few people will give you what you're really looking for, a salute to your execution and hearty amazement at the awesome which seeps out of every orifice in your e-body. MMOs are easy. Way easy. Any accomplishments you make are built on a foundation of principles formed on much more difficult terrain with inferior tools and superior intellects. The guys like these stand on the shoulders of giants, claiming a place that is not their own. You have a well-designed UI, a relatively stable game, and a very small team of people, literaly 1/9th or less the size of EQ raids. The coordination of such a small group of people is childs-play compared to the necessary logistics of managing a team of over 70 people. Why haven't more people done what you've done? Other people just don't.. care as much. Because it's just not that big of a deal.
  6. To say that all the bosses have been beaten many times is fairly rhetorical. Most of the evidence we have of this are videos where they were in beta or other simulated scenarios, not in production. Reports I'm seeing are that this fight is, in essence, a controlled wipe scenario where the main tank is destined to die, and the only way through is simply burning him down as quickly as possible and hope that enough people don't die before you manage to dps him to oblivion. Whether it's possible or not, the fight's mechanics are generally .. silly. Without predictable hokey pokey to "figure out", it is simply a combination crap-shoot and gear check, with far more significance weighted on the crap-shoot side of things rather than the gear check side of things. Skill beyond maximizing your dps spec and mashing cooldowns exactly when they're supposed to be is.. irrelevant in this fight. My guild group is exceptionally geared, and cleared the instance without significant resistance until Revan, where we basically hit a brick wall. Without tactical options available to us other than "dps faster" the fight is ludicrous. The fight makes the instance a waste of time and resources, and until it is reviewed we will be focusing on more well-crafted content.
  7. What is WoW? Is that the game our grandparents played? Oh yeah I think I remember that game. It had like orcs and stuff? Neat!
  8. I just want to say that I love the game. Everything that I had hoped for in a star wars game is finally here, and it feels good to finally have a real game to play. I haven't actually cared about a game in a very very long time. I was worried for so long but now that it's here and I see how wonderful it is, I am really thankful for the design and development team for doing a bang-up job, and Q/A has definitely kept them straight. Here's to 5+ years of fortune, and a new element of pop culture!
  9. PS: I found this excellent space mission guide
  10. Yes grade 2 and 4 are available on the galactic market and there are also mods you can purchase with the space combat tokens. They are runnable once a day and once they open up they continue to be available so as you level up you can do more space missions per day as you have more dailies available to you. Maybe I should make a blog post of the breakdown for space missions. Currently I only have the Imperial missions available to me as rolling a republic character would make my stomach churn.
  11. My only question is.. what the heck are you talking about man? If you're responding to another thread.. respond to that thread. If this is a new thread you need to put more content in your message to create a decent forum for discussion and debate. World of warcraft was an evolution of Everquest, most of the key features of everquest were present in the launch product of WoW, as most of the key wow features are present in swtor. Swtor builds on them and evolves the genre in a compelling, meaningful and entertaining way. This creates real value for the player and this is why I love the game so much. Do you know WHY everyone is comparing it to wow and why it's such a heated issue? Because it's the first MMO that delivers at the level that WoW did, but instead of just creating a clone, they add several key features that make it truly unique, individual and superior to the progenitor. Six years from now people are going to say how world of starcraft is just a SWTOR clone, and on those forums we will be hearing ourselves debate about how it does or doesn't match what our expectations have evolved into. Change is inevitable and the community has been starving for a new game with the quality that SWTOR has delivered with concepts and content that invigorate us to play again, rather than just make us come back because there's nothing better to do.
  12. Actually this game already has a _much_ bigger release than any MMO in history, including world of orcraft or whatever your dad played. Once the numbers are crunched it will be the biggest and smoothest launch of any MMO to date.
  13. Hi All - This is Mar from The Crucible Pits server. You can view your ship's equipment by opening the character panel (default 'c' on your keyboard). Then click on the Ship tab on the bottom of the character window. This will show you your currently equipped ship items. At Imperial Fleet in the Supplies section of the main station at Imperial Fleet you will find the ship upgrades vendor. From there you can purchase some upgrades for your ship depending on what level you are. But also, don't forget to check the auction house too! Sometimes great bargains can be had on there that will really make space combat a lot more enjoyable. The key upgrade to most missions is the Missile magazine capacity. By default this magazine offers a compliment of only 30 missiles. At level 25 I am able to equip a magazine of 50 missiles which is nearly twice that of the grade 1 variant. This gives me considerable more leeway when choosing how and when to fire my missiles. The second upgrade I would purchase would be shields, they offer significant damage reduction and when your lasers aren't firing your shield will recharge, which is nice because armor doesn't recharge, but shields do. Once you've got those two you can upgrade any of the other components you like. They are all useful and enjoyable. 1 - Save Your Missiles for Mission objectives. No missiles should be spent on bonus targets until all of your mission objectives have been destroyed. Do not spend missiles on low-end fighter ships. Heavier, bigger fighters may require missiles (eg. Red Talon fighters) but a general rule of thumb is.. Save the missiles fixed positions that require accurate and decisive damage. 2 - You can get an idea where an incoming fighter is coming from by seeing where their lasers are shooting, simply move your mouse to where their beams are coming and fire the instance their ship comes into view. Republic scum tend to fly in formation, so if you learn the formations once you know where one is you will quickly memorize where the other should be. 3 - When you have a cloud of incoming republic ships simply hold down the mouse button in the middle and make a slow curlyQ, they will simply melt away into little fairy dust. Why? Because they're faeries t('-'t). * You can barrel roll your ship at any time by hitting the space bar. This is essential. It just is. I mean seriously.. that is pure win.
  14. Space combat = Free Exp. You can do daily quests, each one has 1-2 missions, each mission is about 3 minutes, and rewards over 6k exp. 18 minutes = ~25k exp and in a fun, action-packed minigame. Space combat feels like you're in a movie. I love it and do my missions religiously every day just because I love it. The exp just makes me giggle. Oh did I mention they pay you credits for it too? Priceless!
  15. My solution.. Jump on my lightsaber. Obey the sith. All of your problems.. will go away.
  16. It's sold out everywhere, can't get it. I want it bad, but Ouch! $300 on.. illegitimate sources.
  17. This. The original poster is not collecting enough data to make a rational assessment with. It will take time to see how it all pans out and where the balance changes need to occur, if any. In my guild I am the only biochem. Don't judge the entire environment based on your limited perception. Widen your perception and gain visibility before passing judgement. In order to gain the perspective required for this kind of decision time will be needed to see how the numbers pan out. Only when those numbers are collected, checked and verified should the math guys determine what's broken and what isn't.
  18. u mad bro? Suck it up. They said how it will be and it is, getting mad about it is just a sign of a lack of forethought and maturity. Actions have consequences. Deal with it.
  19. You have some bad information. All the servers were full. Most had hour+ queues.
  20. But if you get even ground what is the point of getting in early? I think you should have ordered earlier. The point of getting in early is getting an edge on the people who can't play. Taking away that edge takes away the whole idea of why hard core players bought early
  21. Nobody laments their decision to pre-order late in the process more than me, and I'm waiting in stoic harmony with the force. Some things I've done to help with the jones.. I've been watching the entire saga on loop for the last week, right now I'm watching the scene where Luke meets Yoda on Dagobah in episode 5. Google all the guides you can for your class, pvp and crafting guides. Read them all, slowly. Hit youtube and watch all the star wars robot chicken episodes, they're all funny, some are hillarious. You too will be able to play, just have patience and feel the force.
  22. I've been following the game for over 3 years, but I hesitated pre-ordering, and now that launch has come around I'm more excited about this game than I've ever been about a video game before. I played the last beta weekend and ordered it the day after I played, only because I didn't want to take time away from the game to buy it. Now I find myself smacking my arm and jittering with the jones. I'm so sorry for not buying the game sooner, tears are filling my bowl of Star Wars Cereal
