  1. The problem with end-game content is that if you are not in a guild that does operations, a good portion of the SWTOR storyline is unavailable to you. Solo mode operations that rewarded blue or lowest-tier purple gear would allow solo players to see the storyline while not taking away from the rewards that guilds get for doing these operations in large groups.

I was very disappointed to find out I could not run Blood Hunt multiple times on solo mode.

  2. For pvp I found a happy median with 7.15% (602) alacrity. This allows you to have just over 65% crit multiplier, and gives you a significant speed up on your prog scan. Also the cd on key abilities for burst healing like power surge and emergency scan are nice.

The 10% crit multiplier I get from Advanced Targeting I feel makes up for the surge loss. Also surg caps at around 400-450 so you'll have to take some alacrity anyway, might as well be enough to make it worthwhile. I tried over 8% for a while and felt it wasn't justifiable increase on casts and cd's.

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong one way or the other, but I think play styles lend better to one side or the other. I also think if you're going surge heavy you want more crit because you'll want the AT proc up almost constantly. Through parsing I found in order to keep it up for an average of +90% of a fight you need at least 28% crit. In PVE, I run just over 30% crit chance and AT is up 94-99% of the time pretty consistently.

Thanks, that's pretty much exactly the info I was looking for. I too, had over 8 percent alacrity for a while and it seemed it wasn't doing much other than causing me to overheat quickly, so I started dropping some. Now at four percent, I feel I have too little, so I am glad to see my suspicions (somewhat) confirmed. Thank you.

  3. Sooo.... yeah.

I've been doing a lot of looking around on ye olde interwebs trying to find a definitive answer to the following question:

How much alacrity should a bodyguard mercenary be looking for in 3.0 and beyond?

Try as I might, I can't seem to find any actual numbers anywhere - and rather than spend a zillion commendations to min/max my gear and then find out I did it wrong, I would really like to find out if anyone can actually give me a solid answer.

I've been told everything from "None, just do power/surge" (which sounds really off to me) to "ALL alacrity, all the time!". I don't want that kind of answer. I'd like a number to base my goal off of.

Looking at pvp scoreboards, with a lot of alacrity I don't seem to be struggling very much, but being the person I am, I want my stats to be as close to optimized as possible.

So, is there anyone who can actually help me here or am I doomed to experiment blindly until I figure it out on my own?

  4. I think all the Republic aces are still flying, though perhaps not as consistently.

Between what kept me busy the past two weeks and trying to grind some ground pvp comms for 2.7 I haven't been flying as much as I'd like to, and I know some of my guildies haven't been around either.

Also, the current meta-game and lack of my usual squadmates means I'm reduced to playing my gunship more often than not in order to clear out all the bombers drones and mines, or be forced to watch my teammates repeatedly suicide on them. I can clear 90k+ damage in the stupid thing, but I'd much rather be playing my Flashfire.

  5. Are you trying to say that on your server you have 12 man groups consistently fielding 4 ships at each spawn point with 2 bombers and 2 gunships per group?

    Sorry sweetheart, I call BS.

  6. Warhammer flopped pretty quickly as well. Wow has less servers than it did two years ago but they continue to have more servers than they started with if memory serves correctly.

Actually, Warhammer Online was only JUST shut down on December 18th, 2013. So, yeah.

  7. To be fair, I haven't been able to play much lately, had a death in the family and haven't had the time.

Also, the changes to deathmatch, removing the capital ship turrets, has let us Flashfire pilots get our numbers back up since we're not faced with 1000 gunships hanging off the capital ship making it impossible for us to do anything.

.... of course, last time I flew I picked up my first 100k + damage match. I don't think it counts though, looked like a bunch of new pilots on the other side with a couple good pilots.

Hoping I'll be able to GSF more after the end of this week, once I'm done going to wakes and funerals and dealing with all sorts of crap that makes it so that I'm too distracted to shoot people down.

  8. I agree with Armondd this is an issue. I think TDM was better before the patch, as the capital ships added some complexity to the fight.

Also, while I'm at it, I think the damage overcharge needs to be looked at. It's far more efficient to focus on hunting down the DO power-up to go on a killing spree (and then go back to hunting power ups when its worn off), than it is to actually fight the enemy. This seems rather counter-intuitive.

That's only true for pilots like us - you get heavily reduced requisition grants for any kills made with DO.

I've also done different games where I actively sought out DO, and ones where I just kept an eye out for it and grabbed it when I saw it. I always had better performance with the latter over the former.

  9. Despite all the advantages (and the easily exploitable bug) of double cluster volley, I still prefer my plasma warheads.

I switched to double cluster and noticed my damage actually went DOWN, not up.

But I think that has to do with my ambush predator playstyle - I seek and destroy and am usually the only person on my target - the plasma warheads keep their shields from regenning if they boost out of range of my burst cannons.

  10. How in the world does anyone cheat at GSF? The mechanics of the combat should make it rather difficult. The only thing I can think of is spiking their connection to lag on demand?

No, this was actual hacks. Teleport hacking and some sort of hack that let them sit on one side of the map and hit you clear on the other side. Was witnessed by a dev.

  11. Got some more aces for Ebon Hawk!

Kantherian ®, Hanak ®, Ellscari ®, Kamie (E), Knickers (E), Xenthos ®, Viciousdrake (E), Cynfor (E), Ashendelle ®, and round it out with Gerrik ®.

Edit: Also, Cardnylsin ® isn't one of ours. He's POT5.

Double Edit: Actually, everybody after Balor is POT5.

One of the people on your list was banned for cheating in GSF~ Not saying who, but fyi, that's why they haven't been around for a while.

  12. My server:

    The Ebon Hawk

    My faction:

Republic with the occasional Imp login

    Queue times, AM/PM:

Early morning they can be somehwat slow, between 10-20 minutes. Around 11 AM it picks up to 5 minutes or less and stays that way until about 1 am at which point it begins to slow down to 10 minutes, then a bit longer. Very late you could wait 30-40 minutes but what do you expect at 3 am?

    Queue quality:

There are a lot of both new players and veterans queueing all the time.

    Friendliness:

TEH pilots are all friendly and willing to discuss ship builds, strategy, and tips and tricks with both new and old players alike. Our best aces are also some of our nicest people.

    Skill:

Republic edges out Empire skill-wise, but also has a greater pool of pilots. The Imperials have been picking up some pretty good talent though, and it's starting to show. Overall, the games on TEH are either knuckle-whitening in how close they are, or are a landslide win for one side or the other.

    Premades:

There are several premades you might see on any given day, as The Ebon Hawk is home to a few guilds who have GSF as a main focus. However, Ebon Hawk pilots are, for the most part, willing to take non-guildies and new players into their groups, with the option of voice chat - not a requirement. Often times in our premades, at least one of us is not in voice chat anyway. Ebon Hawk players also tend to be sporting about crushing wins and try to let the other side get a bit of requisition.

    Comments and conclusion:

The Ebon Hawk is a great server for GSF, and we welcome any and all new pilots into the fold. If you're thinking of moving servers, come on over and send a tell to Highjinks (Republic side) if you want to chat about GSF - or, I am sure you can talk to Shayd on Imperial side (though he might get mad at me for throwing his name out here, we'll see!)
