I have a 50 Agent Operative, a 37 Sniper and a 33 Trooper Commando. I don't know how to express this more clearly: the trooper has been more enjoyable and fun in every way but the class story itself, and this isn't really because the trooper act 1 story sucks, but because the agent act 1 story was amazing. Agent act 2 and 3 I found uninteresting and I consider both worse than the trooper act 1. The sniper looks good on paper. Ultimately I've found that the trooper does the same job a sniper is supposed to fill, only better. Grav round, your main attack as a dps, doesn't have to worry about getting deflected for whatever reason, and your aoe abilities are significant as a trooper. Your go-to aoe, mortar volley, is powerful enough to kill an entire group of the weak mobs with a single use, and plasma grenade can do the same, albeit with a smaller aoe blast radius. But the biggest difference between a trooper and agent is your ability to help your group, even as a dps. If you PvE, then the trooper can also utilize a long duration cc. I know this doesn't sound like much, but it's a godsend. Further, as a sniper there were instances in a group where I just had to watch someone die in front of me. As a trooper you can easily help keep the tank or dps up if the healer is having trouble. You can save your whole damn group, and not have to stand there spamming snipe. As someone else said, no Agent subclass can tank. Another problem for you if you want to run as a 4 man group. TLDR: Commando Trooper does comparable damage to any Agent sublclass, does mostly unshieldable damage ect, does significantly more AOE than any agent subclass, has more reliable knockbacks than any agent subclass, and can also assist his group with healing and cc, even if not specced for it. Operative can stealth and does large opening damage--- and awful sustained damage. Healing spec currently poorly designed, offheals less potent than Commando. Also has a long duration cc, but it cannot be refreshed (sap). Sniper does, uh, big ambush crits. Make troopers. You'll thank me later.
