  1. Every Advanced Class in the game can do this. That doesn't mean it's worthwhile to do it, since you want to actually crit and do burst damage. Also, I don't know how you'd spec it: but I'd go with some 1200:ish Power and 500 Surge, ignoring both Crit and Accuracy. But you're probably right. It's just the Smash-spec:ed players that's figured out that they go Power/Surge all the way, because they have a better understanding of the game. Those other losers are just scrubs and don't know what they're doing.
  2. Damage isn't really that great of a skill-meter. It's more about positioning, ability-usage and battlefield awareness (checking the map to see where you're needed most). With that being said, I'm playing an Operative healer right now that I'm leveling up through PvP. I usually break 50-100k damage as well, due to Fragmentation Grenade and stopping caps, while healing for pretty much 2-3x that at the same time, and I see people doing 30-40k damage as DPS aaaaaaaall the time nowadays. It's getting pretty ridiculousness at times. It's not their fault though. They have to learn somehow and hopefully, in a dozen or so matches, they'll be pretty decent. We just have to suck it up and deal with it. That's just the way it is. Btw. I love that guy and his party! :')

    Buff Operatives

Can't they spec that "short term movement boost" now? And also, holy necro!
  4. Do you have any source for that? I'd love to check it out for myself.
  5. I very much doubt that there will be any class balancing done until the expansion drops. At least not large ones, seeing as no PTS is being offered for 1.7
  6. How do you know that? I haven't seen any 1.7 changes being offered up by BioWare.
  7. You've seen DPS Sages crit for 7k? Holy cow, Batman, I don't believe it - because it's not true! Padding the damage numbers, pretty much any class can do (especially AoE:ers such as Sorcs/Sages). But burst 3 people down 30-40% of their health in one go, very few classes can do that. Which is why people are complaining about Smash, because it has a very easy setup that can be done several times a minute, it always crits (which negates having to have any crit rating at all) and hits for a very large chunk of HP. Your argument is invalid, because "modding your gear" doesn't matter. Learning who, when and where to stun/use defensive cd:s and run away/knock back helps. Still, all of that won't save you even a third of the time, because they are on longer cooldowns than Smash. "Don't nerf me, bro!" is getting very old, but it pretty much defines your entire post.
  8. You might very well be right on that. Memory is a tricky thing. Either way, I would be very surprised if they did any class balancing until then.
  9. Looks like it, yes. But isn't that exactly what they've already said? That there will be no class changes until the expansion.
  10. Because PvP:ers on PvP-servers play more Warzones than those on PvE-servers? Yeah, that sounds plausible... I'm betting the difference in skill is miniscule, on average.
  11. Knockback + Leg Shot = 8 second root. But yeah, I agree. What 8sec root?
  12. Why would it be strange? It clearly states Damage Boost on Players and Damage Reduction Players. I was just saying that the Damage Boost and the Damage Reduction cancel each other out if fighting against an equally Expertise-geared opponent. It makes total sense to apply your Damage Boost and then apply his/her Damage Reduction to get how much damage is dealt. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean here?
  13. Actually, that is not the way the damage/damage reduction is calculated. If you have an equal amount of Expertise, you will do no more damage to your target at all. Let's take a very easy example, where you have a 25% damage increase and a 20% damage reduction (you'll notice that they will all even out, regardless of Expertise level). BaseDamage * (1 + ExpertiseDamageIncrease) * (1 - ExpertiseDamageReduction) = Damage Example: 1000 * ( 1 + 0.25) * (1 - 0.2) = 1000 So if you're sitting at 25% damage increase, and the other person only has 18% damage reduction, you'll land at this: Example: 1000 * (1 + 0.25) * (1 - 0.18) = 1025 Which is a 2.5% damage increase. From this, it is very easy to calculate how much more damage person A with X Expertise would do to person B with Y Expertise.
  14. Just take the difference in percentages between the two. That's the net gain from Expertise.
  15. I agree that it's anecdotal evidence. But there is no need to get upset over it. Ask politely for his data, and if he have it - he should post it - if he don't disregard his post if you so choose. Either way. There is nothing stopping you from testing it out yourself. If you did, you would have the data to either prove or disprove your own conclusions about Expertise. The only way to actually check it out is through in-game testing anyway, since the math are a bit guesstimations (how different abilities have different coefficients, etc) Btw. I've seen much more unfathomable misconceptions about Expertise than this.
  16. You should give him the benefit of a doubt here and actually assume they did more than just one attack on each other. It's very easy to test either way. Just do 100 hits on each person and average that damage out and compare it. If it's a noticeable difference, it should be seen in so few a hits.
  17. Step 1: Find large thread with premise that agrees with your own Step 2: Post in said thread, regardless of the age of it Step 3: ?????? Step 4: Profit!
  18. I see my work here is done! Thank you rainbow.
  19. This has been gone over before. Damage Increase and Damage Reduction cancel each other out with Expertise. If both players have an equal amount of it, there is no increased damage whatsoever, due to Expertise. The healing bonus is the only thing unaffected by this, making healers always gain an Healing Increase with Expertise. We can argue all day whether or not that increase is sufficient.
  20. Of course cheats exists in this game. That isn't being disputed (I hope). The question is if there's some sort of rampant cheat-plague, which I'd say there isn't. With that being said though, you should report every instance of odd behavior. Anyone who argues that false-positives will cripple the player base either doesn't realize that logging is performed on everything you do in-game, in one way or another and that means they can actually check to see what was going on - or they are trying to make you not report it, for some reason. The former is, in my opinion, a more reasonable assumption. Most of the time, Predation is the source of that "strange" movement increase, or some other ability was used, such as Hydraulic Overrides or Unstoppable when that Root didn't seem to work.
  21. Yeah, I love how people are saying that they "do really low damage on their other abilities" when they hit like trucks because of stacked Power.
  22. You're absolutely right. We shouldn't factor in what the ability actually does when we talk about how they perform. Regarding the actual topic at hand, I'd say this is a very common phenomenon in MMO's. Damage spirals "out of control" (I'm not sure if we're there quite yet, but the signs are there at the very least) as new sets of gear are introduced. Mainly because of how damage is calculated in comparison to damage mitigation and HP pools. What I mean by that is that the damage is disproportionate in relation to how long people are expected to live. Of course, if we factor in one-two good healers and coordinated group efforts, that TTL will be increased (to infinity, in some cases). It's a very hard balance.

    Class counters?

I can't help of thinking of oldie when I read this post. :')

So, you want us to believe in your anecdotal evidence as the absolute truth of what happened, even though no one else has seen it happen (or at least reported it, that we know of), there are dozens of other explanations as to what might have happened - without a cheat being involved - and then you get mad and defensive about it when we question it? Did you look at the Sniper as this happened? Did you actually see the grapple line from him, to you, connect and pull you off the ledge? Did you land right next to him? Are you absolutely certain that no one else on their team was even remotely close to you? Etc..

I'm 99% sure that if I could make my Marauder use any class ability I wanted, I wouldn't be using Force Lightning.
