  1. Did anyone else laugh really hard when Ganadorf had to correct his name a few times? Also, the way bug fixing works, it's entirely possible a minor fix paves the way for a larger fix to be implemented. The whole baby name thing...IDK, but does it even matter? I'm assuming it's like 2-3 seconds of them opening up the credits file and typing in a new name. Troll Comment: Do you guys hate babies or something?
  2. If I could make an entire post filled with nothing but <3 and not be obnoxious, I totally would. Instead, I'll settle for just filling up an entire line. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
  3. I bolded the important part. They don't want multiple Player Characters beating on one mob, but after some forethought they realized it's highly impractical to have it any other way. In any game where there are multiple players and a boss fight is inevitable, eventually it always boils down to a bunch of guys ganging up on another guy. One thing I thing I think SWTOR has done a great job on is the encounters leading up to the boss fight though. They all feel very dynamic and awesome. Even when I'm breezing through some of the content cause of my level, I still have this inexplicable feeling of tension, something I can't say I quite got while playing WoW. Granted, this is my first time playing a tanking class (Vanguard), so it's possible every tank feels this way while DPS classes do the standard faceroll, but I don't know. But yeah, when they first said that, I totally bought it, then I came back to reality after a few days and especially after seeing the EV video, lol. I don't think it's a negative for the game, it's just a reality of game development. They do have a few situations where players are forced to work together instead of just wailing on the boss. As far as the world bosses go, they're large enough to where I think it's fair to say you would "realistically" need a few heroes to down those.
  4. I gave my companion my PVP gear hand-me-downs. Granted, this was before the last patch so it's possible something may have changed. Assuming nothing has changed though, I'd suggest making an in game ticket if the issue persists. That response sounds lame as it doesn't actually help you resolve your problem, but if what you have is an actual bug then you'd be doing the community a great favor reporting it. I imagine other people might be experiencing the same issue as well if this is the case.
  5. It's rather obvious I'm taking damage. What is driving me insane is not knowing where the damage is coming from, especially when I'm being hit by 6 things at once and I'm 95% sure that at least one of those things shouldn't be hitting me.
  6. I have a friend who actively looks at lists to see what is the "best". It makes me sad.
  7. BW reps have said to call customer service and have them do it. But according to the OP, it's not working. It could be the circumstances are different. If he uninstalled the app, then he doesn't have access to the serial/registration number that was used on the original app. As a result he can't provide it to them for removal. Before you do anything with your App, I would contact CS (the wait will most certainly suck by phone so I'd try email if you'd rather wait a few days instead of being glued to your phone) and find out the necessary steps from them.
  8. It honestly depends on the type of maintenance being done. Hardware maintenance is usually checking the physical components of the server to make sure everything is in working order. Running diagnostics on the ram and CPU and replacing where necessary. Cleaning out the insides and swapping out fans if needed. Double checking the cabling or replacing whole units, things like that. The software side usually involves running diagnostics on the server OS and checking to make sure that the routing tables are up to date. Sometimes updates are done to the servers to make them more secure to prevent DDOS attacks from taking them down or hackers gaining entry. Sometimes changes are made to the settings for both the hardware and OS using existing components (so it's not technically an upgrade) that result in the whole thing running faster. Or changes are made to the OS to enable new hardware, or new hardware is swapped in when it turns out to be a pain to get working with the OS. And sometimes it's just plain ol' diagnostic tests where they hammer the server to see how much it can take or run through different scenarios to see how it will react so the admins know how to respond accordingly. All in all, these are all things that are absolutely necessary to make sure the servers can continue to run smoothly. So that's why when I hear maintenance in the context of the MMO world I assume all of the above is taking place to some extent. But you know what they say about assuming.....
  9. I can't wait for the combat log to appear. I've been noticing that even when I stand out of the ability indicator for some abilities that mobs throw up (the little floating orb that spews fire for instance) it still seems like I'm being hit. I could be five meters away from the circle and it seems like I'm still taking damage from it. It's been driving me mad. I have to know if it's bugged or if I'm being hit by something else before I make a support ticket for it.
  10. If everything I've been reading is true, assuming the security key is already tied to your account, uninstalling it could quite possibly be the worst thing you can do at this point in time.
  11. main·te·nance noun /ˈmānt(ə)nəns/  /ˈmāntn-əns/  The process of maintaining or preserving someone or something, or the state of being maintained - crucial conditions for the maintenance of democratic government The process of keeping something in good condition - car maintenance - essential maintenance work That's the literal definition. From doing tech support for 5 years, most server admins also use the phrase when they're doing optimization to increase server performance or add new features. A lot of times, maintenance and server updates go hand in hand. Some updates are announced to clients (i.e, customers), but more often than not the changes are only told internally and most of the time are changes that are being made that lead up to an update that will be announced to customers. It sounds like what's going on is a language disconnect.
  12. I agree 100%. You'd think the solution would be as simple as resetting your account or toggling a switch of some sort to turn the authenticator off for the time being...but the fix for things that seem easy is never really easy. It's a shame that this is causing you to unsub, but it's inane to bash someone who won't pay for a product they can't use -_- Thanks for the authenticator warning though. I was thinking about switching from the one on my ipod to this android phone I got recently. Now I know it would be a bad idea.
  13. Hrm, I guess I have a different impression on what maintenance entails. Even if it's not client side fixes, usually when maintenance of any sort is being done, it's to fix something that is broken or optimize something. So it's possible that we won't suddenly see the BH class quest working or the JK being able to smooch his female companion, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some of the client/server issues will be resolved. Maybe have queue times drop. Maybe some other random thing that possibly improves the way the game performs. I apologize if my usage of the phrase "bug fixes" offended you. It's rather obvious in hindsight that with a billion+ people on the planet (each with their own thought processes) you would have no way of knowing what I really meant when I typed that out. Silly me.
  14. I fully support this. Why? Because tears are delicious.
  15. I don't know about you guys, but I love maintenance periods. Half the people who are complaining about all the bugs suddenly start to complain about all the downtime...downtime that is being used to fix all the bugs. The explosion of QQ just before the servers go down and right after they come back up always brings a smile to my face.
  16. Well, I want to point out that in your particular case, just because they can't fix your problem doesn't mean that it's "very sad support". From what you've said, they've been trying their best to fix your problem, even going so far as to send you a physical authenticator. Your experience with Bioware support sounds much better than some what you read about on the forums so I don't think it's fair for you to say it's subpar support. It would probably be fair to say that they have poor implementation (of the authentication process) though. As someone who does technical support for a living, I just wanted to make the distinction between the product, the people who made it, and the people who get stuck supporting it clear.
  17. I'm in the camp that says he was a probable botter, but I thought I'd clear up a misunderstanding on his part. The reddit thread says that Illum is intended for level 50 characters and that this is clearly communicated in game. The phrase "that by ignoring these warnings" is a reference to the in game information about the planet. At no point in time does the email say he received a warning from customer service. If he was indeed botting though, then he pretty much deserved it regardless of a warning or not. Botting is never okay in any MMO I've played.
  18. Hutball sucks at lower levels because depending on your class you don't have the abilities necessary to take advantage of the map. As a vanguard, as soon as I got harpoon, it got a lot more enjoyable. It actually felt like I was helping the team instead of being a waste of a slot.
  19. That is ridiculously awesome. I think that even if they fix the actual /laugh, they should keep the laughter on certain abilities still active. A smuggler laughing every time upper hand goes off seems so fitting.
  20. I honestly don't know if you're being serious or not. But yeah, the audio in this game is glitchy. Sometimes you'll pass by some NPCs having a conversation and the sound will fade out like it should. Then as soon you get next to some other NPCs a hundred meters away, the conversation picks right back up where the previous one left off.
  21. Ah, then I can't fault Bioware for doing what they did. I think a better solution would have been to make the mods in boss gear unique. So you can only have one of each from a given set or something to that effect. I'm not a developer though, so I have no idea how much work that would have entailed. Given how fast they made the change for moddable gear though, I'm guessing it was the simpler solution. They probably have something to toggle on each piece of gear that lets it be moddable or not.
  22. I think the majority of people who make this complaint are doing so because they can't just click a button and automatically be grouped with people. They have to actively socialize with other individuals to form a party. Granted, I have no idea what the original person who made the above statement (specifically the statement the quote is referring to) really meant when he said what he said, so I could be wrong. But even within the whole "talk to people and group up" spectrum of things (which I love btw), there are issues such as the whole instancing thing. While it might seem like a great idea, the cooldown on switching between instances suck. I wish they'd remove the cooldown when in a group or in an ops. Nothing sucks more than spending an hour cajoling people into killing a world boss only to find that 1/3 of your operation can't down the thing with you cause their cooldown for instance switching is still up for whatever reason.
  23. I really hope they don't just "throw out all the gear that isn't modifiable." In the next to last beta build of the game, I'm pretty sure that all armor was modifiable, but they realized it was killing gear diversity and rendering epic gear grinds at the end useless or something to that effect. I think the current system has some issues, but I don't think getting rid of anything that you can't modify is the solution. That has the potential to cause more problems than it solves.
  24. The RNG is basically not your best friend today. Although I suspect that the higher the level the item, the less chance you have of getting the blue/epic drop. I could be wrong, but it feels like as I craft higher level items, it's getting harder and harder to learn a schematic off of them. It could be the RNG not liking me either cause sometimes I go into it thinking I'm doomed and get what I want try 1. Anyhow, the schematics are there, you just have to keep trying.
