  1. I see a lot of mentions of open world PvP, and I don't fully understand what players want.

I know many people hated Ilum but I had some good fun there because we had a semi-balanced server.

But... In terms of comparing open world to WZ's:

    • Open world seems to always be heavily influenced by numbers
    • Open world seems to invlove less skill than WZ's
    • Open world does not seem to have the basic concept of a Win/Loss or Beginning/End

I know most of you will bash Ilum, but rather than bash Ilum, can someone explain what you do in an ideal open world PvP? So, yea, I enjoyed Ilum between WZ's but felt like it was a side dish as opposed to a main course. I have watched footage of GW2 as well and don't get it, it looks like 50 V 50 with no real skill or strategy involved.

  2. Doesn't the following quote contradict your issue with recruit gear?

I had 4-pc BM within a few days of dinging 50.

The gap between recruit gear and augmented WH gear is insane, I agree.

However, the time to get battlemaster is really quick so...who cares?

If the issue is not concerning the PvP'er (you and I) but rather someone who, is new to PVP, and wants to try it out in Recruit gear, then I would agree. This individual would not like his initial foray into PvP. However, when you are brand new to PvP the learning curve is pretty steep and I would imagine that your first ever PvP match in (theoretically) full WH gear would be a challenge as well that most would not enjoy.

  3. Every thread complaining about classes in huttball is wrong.

I have played a SS gunslinger and felt like I dominated.

As a GS you have a root that ignores resolve, you have an AE stun, and you have a knockback that sends people flying. You can also use your attacks from range at different planes. You can destroy people from range and if any of them leap to you just need to use a knockback and they are finished.

People complain about guardians and assassins all the time. Well, the supposed "OP" assassin just needs to knocked off the rafters and he is useless. One knockback or pull and he needs to run all around the rafters to be back in the action. (I have played shadow but not tank spec) They are melee and have no leap.

PS I will agree that an entire team of GS's is at a disadvantage and I once had that. It was a hilarious match, the DPS/squishiness factor made the possesion change sides nearly every 10 seconds.

  4. bioware is too stupid .

These guys (BW) are just clueless. Daniel Erickson is so full of crap. I wonder if hes actualy buying into any of the **** he is shoveling? Im done with this POS. That video is the last straw. I'll find something else to do while I wait for GW2. I dont know if the pvp will be any better it cant be any worst. Im not pay 15 a month to hope they get there **** togather by winter.

Ranked will be implemented before 1.3, not after.

They can not put ranked in without cross server queues. The queue times will not be sustainable, I *think* that is what is holding it up.

This has been stated in the James Ohlen interview, I believe by Massive.

  5. Issue #1: A Full Set of Recruit Gear Simply Doesn’t Cut It

I agree, I have the datacrons and 1/2 war hero done and when I get in a warzone and see people with 5K less hp I assume they are using level 45 gear, then I inspect them and see that they did what they were supposed to do and have full recruit and some battlemaster pieces. I want an advantage for my gear but I am 19.5K HP fighting 13.5K and I am not a tank. This is way to big of a gap.

However, the amount of time to get full battlemaster is ridiculously short. During your recruit period you will not be playing 8 people in recruit vs 8 War Hero.

Issue #2: Class Compositions Influence Outcomes

I disagree. In huttball you are at a disadvantage if you do not have a mix. Otherwise, SWTOR only suffers from the need to have healers, just as every mmo does. I play a 2 50's and 1 40 and none of the OP specs and I always feel very competitive except for issue 1 which has nothing to do with class balance.

    Issue #3: The Grind

I disagree. A "Grind" is what makes an MMO an MMO. They should reduce the benefits or raise recruit so it is not as needed though. (See point 1) Ranked will be fun though and offer a different incentive.

    Issue #0: Server Populations

This is huge and they should make server mergers PRIORITY #1 and not transfers. Transfers before mergers will be a disaster. This is a real issue.

but he had a calm, rational way of explaining things, never trash talked, and gave other players their due when he encountered good ones. I don't think you have to be a pvp-pro to contribute to the pvp-community, and he more than most was willing to do so.

Exactly, anyone who streams is immediately called out for not being the top player. He is competing against everyone's image of themselves. An image that if they lose it is because of gear, teammates and classes and if they win it's because of their ability. That is difficult to compete with.

  6. I was not saying anything negative. I was saying that server mergers will instantly help the game for the people who enjoy it, like me. I just think that, that is more important than transfers where people wll move one at a time and have (legacy) issues. If a players name goes from Sammy to SammyX, he will deal with it and/or get a name change. I even think mergers are more important than cross server queues, as mergers solve the same problem. I further think that mergers are more important than rated WZ's which I can't wait for and think WILL bring players back.
  7. I agree that Cross Servers Queues are needed and will be fun as long as priority goes to your server and hopefully they have some sort of server groupings/divisions list so that your opponents are not from a totally random server every time you queue up.

I agree that Server Transfers are good for the game and will enable people to move to servers close to home and to play with people they know.

I agree that Ranked Warzones will be a lot of fun. I even think they will bring some people back to the game.

However in terms of priorities, I would strongly encourage putting Server Mergers at the top of the list. The people who are happy with the game, and enjoy the game, are the ones to concentrate on. If they enjoy PvP or PvE and can't get queue pops or groups, they will log on less. This should be priority one in terms of Bioware resources. I also think that its probably easier to copy over an entire server rather than copying characters one at a time in every direction.

People will say that mergers are bad from a PR point of view. I still think that given a choice between losing x subscriptions with no server mergers or losing only 20% of x subscriptions with server mergers, the latter is better.

I am also worried that if server transfers are done before a merger, it could be a disaster. Low populations could get worse, we could end up with 50% of the population trying to get on Fatman,,, guilds will be destroyed. A server merger is a much smoother transition, aside from (1) the name issue and (2) if a player already has character on the server he is being merged into. (Hint increase account characters limit to 16 when this merger is done)

  8. If people are consistently leaving warzones you are in, it might be time to consider that you are the problem. Seriously, I leave,

That is really clever. Except, if someone wins 60% of his matches and loses 40%, he will still see the same quitters (ie you) who can't handle losing in those 40% of his matches. I know it is part of the psychology of the quitter to blame others because in his deluded mind he is without fault, and you apply the same thinking to this thread. If you don't like quitters than you are bad.

If every player quit 5% of his matches as you do then PvP would end.

Thankfully most players aren't selfish and can deal with losing and attempting comebacks.

  9. Read this guide to see what things you can still buy with your old tokens.

That is the guide I had seen. My questions was regarding

    Battlemaster – Baradium Flux

Battlemaster – Grade 6 Crafting PvP Box

What is better if they are tradable? Those items did not have much info or links?

Edit, I see they are bind on pickup so never mind. I would have liked to make an expertise crystal but I don't have artifice. Seems odd that they are only usefull for artifice.

    http://www.torhead.com/item/2VVMwup/baradium-flux

  10. I still have some Battlemaster and Champion Tokens. Are the vendors you trade them too (post 1.2) still in the game? If so, which item is most worthwhile to trade for. My reading, if i recall correctly, was that there were two items available for BM tokens.

It's my understanding that the Champ/Cent ones have nothing to do with crafting and are generally worthless.

    Thanks

  11. +1

    Camera Angle

It would have to be from one players point of view? I assume it could switch to the ball carrier point of view zoomed out.

    Why just Huttball?

Huttball would be the coolest, but other zones would be cool too

    Betting

That would be ridiculously fun. EQ had a casino and it's a cool concept in general. This would be amazing, "ratings" when they arrive could determine odds.

    The Engine

I am no programer but if people could download minimal software to their home computer and stream with a standard setup (3MB up) I am sure the SWToR servers could handle it. They may need to link out to a new window in the worst case scenario.

    PS

This is the first positive thread on the PvP forums since launch that surpassed 2 pages without negativity. The OP deserves a title.

    PPS

Are people excited to watch or just to be broadcasted? I hope it's the former. Betting would make watching incredibly fun.

  12. i cannot believe how many idiots here are...

sometimes doorbell, starving, bio, kid wakes up, or i just wanna watch movie ...

i take break 1 min or 3 hours, doesnt'matter, its a game i click on leave WZ and thats all

are you serious with some deserter buff?? i leave WZ everytime i want, it doesn't mean i do it everytime...

this is game, last priority in our lives guys ... we have family, job, sport and on last place is entertainment...

i rly dont want some stupid debuff when have important phone call ...

btw i already unsubed, so i dont care but i see some ppl dont see whats going on in this game with pvp

Yesterday I brought my 6 month old to the Avengers movie and she started crying in the theatre. So I rocked her but stayed in the theatre and after 10 minutes she stopped crying. Anyway, all these idiots start yelling at me not to bring a 6 month old to the theatre and giving me dirty looks. I am like, dude, my baby is more important than a stupic Avengers movie. So I agree with the above.

When I go to the movies if I want to talk to my friend some times ill walk around and chat etc I even talk on my phone and play a video game or two? It may be a business call and work is more important than an Ironman, Thor movie.

Whats that? There are other people in the theatre?

  13. Totally agree with thread. Oh man.

This game is like 20 times worse than angry birds, it takes forever to get the exploding birds in that game. Dont get me started on the boomerang birds. griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind.

WHY CAN T YOU START OUT WITH ALL THE BIRDS.

It's like the dragon tatoo books, why would any IDIOT read them when there is a movie.

    /boggle

  14. Oringinal Poster must play on the dominate side of a server.

I play a Sharpshooter spec Gunslinger (Republic) and an Infiltration spec Shadow (Republic,) both in the 50 bracket. Two classes generally considered underpowered, I play on the republic side on the Kellers Void server I would say it's pretty balanced but some say it's Empire favored. I have never been in a premade but play with and against them all the time. I rarely cry and never quit but enjoy about 95% of the matches.

    Bad assumption my brother.

  15. 1st quit - 2 hour warzone lockout

    2nd quit - 1 day warzone lockout

    3rd quit - 1 week warzone lockout

4th quit - Permanent warzone lockout until written apology letter is sent to everyone he ever bailed on.

5th quit - Public flogging in town square

  16. A lot of people turn off gumby but if you leave it on, you can end up in some weird spots. In Alderan between the side turrets and the middle area there are some large environmental object that I have rolled on/up. The Force leapers seem to like jumping up after you though : (.
  17. I am now a firm believer in elongated progression. I just think the stats between the progression levels need to be kept fairly flat like they are now so that the newbs have a chance... which is only fair.

Remember when all the threads popped about about "we need progression" vs "progression doesn't belong in PvP." What you said (quoted above) is the answer and I tried to post the very same thought a few times but got shot down. For some reason people think if you enjoy progression it means you "really" want to dominate new players. A compromise is/was the solution.

  18. As many of you know, the War Hero grind is very long because the rated matches that will yield the ranked commendations have not yet been introduced. However, I like the slow pace we have now. It adds something to PvP, in my opinion, when their is a goal attached to matches. I don't see anyone, even the hardcore, with more than 4 pieces yet. It is very slow. I haven't seen threads complaining about getting rolled by WH people so I assume the gain from BM to WH gear is not too big. Add to that, the Battlemaster set should not take more than two weeks of dailies and I think everyone is happy. I know the recruit gear is not great for that first week or two but it is pretty decent and a difficult week or two is good training and makes the BM reward sweeter.

I almost don't want the slow pace to change when ranked matches come out, which I think, will be sooner than others believe.

    Your thoughts?

  19. A strat no one knows but me is this:

    {For illustrative purposes assume your base is East.}

If you are defending West & East and you die at West, when you are stuck behind the glass you should announce "rotate" and then your teammate defending East immediately (abandons east &) heads west, then when the glass door opens you (the dead one behind the glass) replaces him at East. A variation of this can be used in Alderan and Voidstar to a degree, especially if you are a pro team. This mostly alleviates this issue which is otherwise true, of having to cover a greater distance to the far side after a death, in comparison to your opponents.

I never start out going for West & East but will adjust to this strat when they dont defend properly, that is what I do in Alderan as well. I am not trying to be Rambo and 3cap alone. It keeps your opponents honest.

  20. There is nothing worse then being right in front of someone about to cap a door, hitting tab - attack and realizing you just attacked the guy behind you.

This and the camera stick thing really would improve quality of life.

  21. Who needs credit? If you pvp just to see some numbers on a board then you're in it for the wrong reason. The sheer glee I feel when I knock someone into the fire or stun them in the fire to watch them die a horrible death is why I do it. The scoreboard can go F itself.

P.S. Players like you are why so many matches are lost. You're playing for some stupid score and ignoring objectives. Go back to PvE where you belong, please.

You are an amazing person and better than I am but the scoreboard is fun too. People enjoy the numbers. You seem like a normal person with no rage.
