No. Armor restrictions are permanent based on your class. There is no way to train up, unless it's a part of your advanced class (For example; Sith Juggernaut uses heavy armor, but Sith Marauder uses medium armor.)

Alas, you cannot watch enemy capital ships, frigates, or space stations crash and burn. You can take all of their systems offline and then imagine the crew inside scrambling to keep their ship upright... Not that I do that. However, you can knock out the capital ship bridges and space station communication towers (the antennae sticking out at the bottom). This will net ~3k experience and can only be done with missiles.
