When your judgment is that anyone who engages in a type of RP you don't like has no depth to their characters -- and you feel the need to complain about this perceived lack of depth on the forums in a thread that has nothing to do with the topic -- I think it could safely be called an attack. If I said that your thoughts on naming policies were nonsense because you are a bad RPer that would be an attack... even if I called it a "judgment." I am not saying that you are a bad RPer, by the way -- this was an example of what a person might say. You don't need to sit in a cantina to tell everyone their RP sux for it to be an attack... You can come onto the forum and tell everyone their RP sux. Which is what you did.

We have multiple threads about naming policies for RP servers. There is another one going right now. In fact, we should probably only have one thread and the extras might as well be deleted. Why not report the OP to have it combined with the others or removed?

What always surprises me is that those who insist that they are defending RP servers and everyone's immersion from silly names, are the first to attack the various types of RP they do not like. So far, the only people who have expressed a dislike for RP in this thread are the ones who are most gung-ho about reporting names.

It is the same for RP servers as it is for regular servers. And I did not assume you reported it. I was stressing the point that seems lost on many people that there is nothing to report.

As I am that guy, I think it is fair for me to respond. You refer to my posting history and that I always come down on the "non-RPer" side of things... What I think you mean is that I disagreed with you in one other thread. I would humbly again disagree with your assertion that your opinion is representative of all RPers. In fact, I can disprove this idea by pointing out that I am an RPer and I believe you are wrong when you say that Bioware needs to implement extraordinary naming rules for RP servers. I prefer to focus on promoting RP rather than trying to attack, malign or isolate people coming to RP servers because I think they are not serious enough about RP. You need to recognize that not all RPers agree with you and that you don't speak for all, or even most RPers. Now, I have a few other posts on this forum and I use my presence here to try to establish more RP contacts, grow RP and promote a healthy community. I don't think that is stirring the pot. Finally, now that you have taken up the mantle of Defender of Darth as a title in '77 perhaps you can point out where in any of the original films it was made clear that Darth was a title and that there were multiple Darths running around? Beside, of course, your assertion that it was true for you and yours? I would suggest you look for web sources, but as you have accused me of editing them all to suit my own argument I guess we will need to stick to the films.

There is nothing to report. No rule is being broken. RP is created by people RPing, not by Bioware and not by useless and counterproductive customer-service tickets. By sending in false reports over non-violations you take time away from moderators trying to deal with real problems like credit-farmers, keyloggers and true harassers. What is the sentence that Octopushead would be a fragment of? If a name is not against the rules, like Octopushead, then it is harassment to report it.

I hope that if an individual reported Canopener and all the other names that aren't violations that Bioware would take action against the reporter. What you have demonstrated here is not that you want people to adhere to the rules, but that you want them to be guided by your preferences. I happen to think that by not making an RP-specific set of naming rules that Bioware has done the best thing for our servers. Ahhh, but what would an RP community be without irony?

As Alyx has pointed out, the rule -- as you quoted it -- is against gibberish. The examples are all random letters... which means the next Jedi named Ash'dl you see running by is more reportable than Canopener. I'm not sure why people keep insisting that Canopener is against the rules.

Actually, most legal systems avoid direct eye-for-eye punishments. That's why we have prisons.

Yes. You can still move up and down with points from quests. My BH had just made tier 1 Dark yesterday but three quests later I was "redeemed" and back into the neutral.

I often wonder what kind of person has their immersion completely ruined by seeing someone run by named Canopener... Thanks to this post, I know it is the same sort of person who complains about someone saying he would like to RP with him because he didn't like the way it was phrased. Perhaps RP servers aren't the best place for you?

I believe the poster in question was from Moon Guard. He may have thought it was a meet-up thread. I think the best way to find this Master/apprentice RP would be to hang out around the Academy on Korriban. You are almost bound to find people that would be into that scene.

My guess is that he is basing his assumption on these lines from the OP: which have little to do with looking for an RP partner but do seem like they would fit in an ERP ad -- as well as the indicator that the guy posting to find a Dominant/submissive relationship is doing so under the name Lolikitten. It does come across as a thinly veiled attempt at finding ERP, but that doesn't mean it is. At any rate, good luck in your search.

Cross faction RP sounds like a good time. I will be arriving on Nar Shaddaa sometime this week so I hope to give it a shot. Thus far, the only cross-faction experience I have is being eviscerated by some very mean Jedi in PVP. I hope they all fall to the Dark Side.

Now, could we merge this discussion with one of the other threads on the same topic?
